  • Nowadays, using multimedia in education has been generalized. However, smart multimedia in new ICT environment require more change to more smart education.   • The change of digital convergence service environment converted the subject of design into user -centric one instead of developer-centric one, and changed the existing design environment focused on product development into the new user -centric design environment. Accordingly, GUI considering user's usability come to take big shares in those contents being used for multimedia equipments. However, as the present educational contents provide complex interface due to its design produced based on the existing e-learning system, they have many problems in that they don't consider user's usability. Thus this paper aimed to analyze actual examples through GUI elements of educational contents being used for multimedia equipments and attempt to suggest some directions for development. additionally, consider the various characteristics of digital convergence environment and educational contents, and try to set up strategic directions possible to utilize user'-centric interface elements more usefully and properly at the time to produce designs.

A Novel Reconfigurable Processor Using Dynamically Partitioned SIMD for Multimedia Applications

  • In this paper, we propose a novel reconfigurable processor using dynamically partitioned single-instruction multiple-data (DP-SIMD) which is able to process multimedia data. The SIMD processor and parallel SIMD (P-SIMD) processor, which is composed of a number of SIMD processors, are usually used these days. But these processors are inefficient because all processing units (PUs) should process the same operations all the time. Moreover, the PUs can process different operations only when every SIMD group operation is predefined. We propose a processor control method which can partition parallel processors into multiple SIMD-based processors dynamically to enhance efficiency. For performance evaluation of the proposed method, we carried out the inverse transform, inverse quantization, and motion compensation operations of H.264 using processors based on SIMD, P-SIMD, and DP-SIMD. Experimental results show that the DP-SIMD control method is more efficient than SIMD and P-SIMD control methods by about 15% and 14%, respectively.

  • In order to solve the complicated problems faced by the spread of diversified information devices and changes in the user environment in recent years, the importance of training creative talent as well as the need for interdisciplinary convergent approach have emerged. As a future technology development project, convergence education with the design sector for training creative talent in the IT field is also urgent. In this study, we recognized the importance and problems of the convergent approach between IT and design sector by examining the convergence theory and cases with a focus on effective creativity development and sought a new direction for convergence education in the future by investigating the awareness on the convergent approach of college students and analyzing the results. This will be able to have significance as a basic study for discovering creative and innovative convergent talent in the IT and design sector in the future and strengthening basic competence.

  • Recently, the convergence of genre-mixed collaboration and technology-mixed collaboration in performance art strategically fuses different goals and different properties, satisfying anticipated demand, and developing into experimental forms that bring out convergence contents of new value. To supplement problems of convergence attempts and heighten levels of completion, the effective collaborative processes of media experts must be studied and improved. This thesis attempts to study effective collaborative production plans of convergence performance that correspond to the demands of the times through multimedia convergence performance prototypes(Live performance play + Pre-made digital animation). It categorizes performance production processes into pre-production and production and researches the effective collaborative production processes of convergence performances that utilize these two forms of media through work selection, production direction establishment, human resource constituents, production schedule plan establishment, visualization processes, and performance practices and rehearsals. Continuous research must be conducted based on convergence performance contents planning, changes in production methods, and an understanding of distinct characteristics among convergence contents for the industrial development systemization and vitalization of convergence contents to be made possible.

Following media development, a Study about the convergence of comics and multimedia (매체발달에 따른 만화의 멀티미디어와의 융합에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, it was witnessed that a variety of tests are implemented in a type of convergence of multimedia such as photos, sounds, and videos as well as letters and drawings, components of existing traditional comics as comics are digitalized and are converted to various devices. Therefore, we studied the concept of multimedia comics as a basis of this study by judging that new barometer to comics lies in convergence with such multimedia. After recognizing components of multimedia comics which are currently emerging, we categorized them into three types depending on how to use these elements. First, convergence type webtoon has a very similar format with existing vertical scrolling webtoon and has characteristics that background & effects sounds are added to emphasize the features of webtoon, or photos or videos are inserted in part, and there is no function to control these elements; Second, motion comic, a medium format between comic and animation has a characteristic that sound, video, paging are auto-played like watching animation but it keeps the format of comics within one frame; Third, interactive comic has a characteristic that effects sound, motion, and story are made by active participation of viewers. As a result of analyzing comics which having above multimedia characteristics, its implications are as followings: First, multimedia elements should be used depending on genre, age, and media; Second, high level of control technology considering the features of comic-viewers is needed. In other words, in continuously evolving media environments, comic contents being proper to targets and use purposes of viewers should be developed. For this, multimedia elements of comics should be used in order that comic-viewers can have active & interactive communication with contents.

Design and Implementation of SCPR for Multimedia Information Security (멀티미디어 정보 보안을 위한 SCPR의 설계 및 구현)

  • Real-Time Protocol (RTP) is used for multimedia information transmission and RTP payload must be encrypted for providing multimedia information security. Encryption/decryption delay is minimized, because there are constraints in transporting a multimedia data through the Internet. Therefore, encryption algorithm is changed with considering network traffic and load. Doting many users participate in the same multimedia service, an user who already left the service can receive and decrypt the RTP payload because of knowing the encryption key. In this paper, Security Control Protocol for RTP is designed and implemented for changing the encryption algorithm and the key.

  • An increasing in quantity of multimedia data brought a new problem that expected data should be retrieved fast and exactly. The adequate representation is a key element for the efficient retrieval. For this reason, MPEG-7 standard was established for description of multimedia data in 2001. In this paper, we designed a Audio/Image Retrieval System based on MPEG-7 that can retrieve multimedia data like audio, image efficiently. And we integrated high-level and low-level schemas to retrieve datas for users.

VLSI Implementation of H.264 Video Decoder for Mobile Multimedia Application

  • In this letter, we present a design of a single chip video decoder called advanced mobile video ASIC (A-MoVa) for mobile multimedia applications. This chip uses a mixed hardware/software architecture to improve both its performance and its flexibility. We designed the chip using a partition between the hardware and software blocks, and developed the architecture of an H.264 decoder based on the system-on-a-chip (SoC) platform. This chip contains 290,000 logic gates, 670,000 memory gates, and its size is $7.5\;mm{\times}7.5\;mm$ (using 0.25 micron 4-layers metal CMOS technology).
