An Longitudinal Analysis of Intrinsic Motivation's Effects on the Acceptance of Programming Language (내재적 동기가 프로그래밍 언어의 수용에 미치는 영향에 대한 종단적 분석)

  • Although many studies have analyzed and identified the importance of intrinsic motivation in the acceptance of information technology (IT), especially hedonic systems such as online game and online shopping, the acceptance of programming languages such as Java were not studied in a view of intrinsic motivations. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of intrinsic motivation on the acceptance of programming language by the longitudinal analysis. In the service of the objective, we suggested the research model which included both intrinsic and extrinsic motivations and longitudinally extended by belief updating theory. For the validation of this model, the university students who participated Java class were surveyed twice, and the suggested research were analyzed by partial least square (PLS). In result, most of the suggested hypotheses were supported.

  • Electronic Trade is dramatically changing classical international trade paradigms. In particular, under the new economic environment, the ability to utilize and Information Technologies such as Electronic Data Interchange, Web-based EDI, ebXML, web service, Internet are emerging as an important factor in deciding the competitiveness of export business. The primary purpose of this study is (1) to investigate motivation factors and performance factors of electronic trade, (2) to show the relationship between motivation factors and the level of the utilization of e-trade, (3) to reveal the relationship between the level of the utilization and performance factors of e-trade. Analysis of survey questionnaire of Korean middle and small companies indicates the following : (1) motivation factors such as cost factor, education and promotion and the search of new market, have positive effect on the level of utilization of e-trade. (2) the level of utilization of e-trade has positive effect on the performance factors such as cost factor, the search of new market, the improvement of task process.

The Effect of Self-Regulated Learning Factors on Learning Motivation on Underachiever (학습부진학생의 자기조절학습요인이 학습동기에 미치는 영향)

  • The problem of poor learning has been a subject that has been constantly raised in the educational field since the mid 20th century. Therefore, this study classified the components of self - regulated learning into cognitive - control, motive - control, and behavior - control strategies, and examined the effects of self - regulated learning on internal value, self - efficacy, curiosity, and self - confidence. The study was conducted on university students who participated in the program for the study of depression in A university in Changwon city. The results showed that self - regulated learning factors had a positive effect on learning motivation. Second, the learning adjustment factors have a positive effect on self - efficacy. Finally, learning control factors have a positive effect on curiosity and self - confidence. Through this study, we confirmed that a comprehensive guidance system considering interaction is needed because various factors act integrally in the learning process. As a concrete method, it is imperative to develop a learning counseling program that can enhance the motivation level by referring to cognitive, synchronous, and behavioral factors.

  • This study applied effective playful learning to increase the learning motivation of non-CS major students to help them achieve learning and to successfully operate online SW liberal arts classes for 560 students. As a result of analyzing the students' reflection journals, most of the students accepted the 'white radish' of dialect names as fun playful learning in the process of learning local variables and global variables. And they were surprised and amazed at discovering unexpected contents in our SW class. It was found that they experienced delight in learning, learning-flow, confidence, and intrinsic motivation. In the final term exam at the end of the semester, it was confirmed that the correct rate of 92% for questions related to local and global variables was higher than the average rate of other questions' correctness of 67.1%.

Top-down Behavior Planning for Real-life Simulation

  • This paper describes a top-down behavior planning framework in a simulation game from personality to real life action selection. The combined behavior creating system is formed by five levels of specification, which are personality definition, motivation extraction, emotion generation, decision making and action execution. Along with the data flowing process in our designed framework, NPC selects actions autonomously to adapt to the dynamic environment information resulting from active agents and human players. Furthermore, we illuminate applying Gaussian probabilistic distribution to realize character's behavior changeability like human performance. To elucidate the mechanism of the framework, we situated it in a restaurant simulation game.

Innovative Writing Assignments in Engineering to Enhance Learning, Thinking and Motivation

  • Three benefits of incorporating writing in engineering curricula are presented. The first benefit is in improving the communication skills which are essential for engineers and are attained through practice. The second benefit is in enhancing learning and is achieved by utilizing the complex process of writing to heighten the level of understanding. The third benefit, though difficult to recognize and even more difficult to promote in a society (and educational institutes) steeped in the behaviorist tradition, is in promoting meaningful learning by cultivating motivation internal to students themselves. The boundaries of writing activities are broadened to include that of stating a paragraph or even one complete sentence such that it may be incorporated in engineering without undue strain. A two-year trial of incorporating four types of writing assignments in six different courses (a total of 12 classes) at Michigan Technological University shows that writing assignments can be designed to achieve different degrees of the three aforementioned benefits. It is found that different types of writing activities need to be assigned depending on the status of course (elective vs. required) and on the composition of the students taking the course (upper division vs. lower division; majors vs. non-majors).

  • Characteristics of the motivation and performance of Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) adoption in university organization are explored through case studies in this study. Generally, the modules for production, sales, and logistics management in a manufacturing company are substituted with new modules for student support, lecture operations, and research management in ERP for university organization. The motivation of ERP adoption is closely related to the purpose of improvement of business process operations and information system control rather than the environmental factors such as inter-organizational competition or increase of market uncertainty, differentially from enterprises cases. In addition, the financial performance such as cost reduction, labor substitution, and increase of productivity is relatively lower evaluated than the performance on organizational aspects or information system control.

Study of Player Attitudes Regarding MMORPG Avatar Customization in the Transformation Stage (MMORPG 아바타 커스터마이징의 변형 과정에서 플레이어 태도 연구)

  • MMORPG users can create their own identity that they will use to act through in the virtual world utilizing the avatar creation system. The MMORPG customization process, divided into the creation and transformation stages, provides a sandbox for the identity play by users. In this study, analysis of the users' customization attitudes using the Q methodology especially in the transformation stage was conducted. The users' attitudes were found to be categorized into 4 types: 1) fulfilling attitude, 2) customization immersed attitude, 3) customization challenging attitude, and 4) community oriented attitude. Of particular interest are the immersed customization type, where the attitude is driven by the internal motivation of "self-satisfaction" unlike the fulfillment and community oriented attitudes which are driven by instrumental motivation of the avatar, and the continuous desire towards transformation revealed by the challenging customization attitude. This study provides valuable insight in the design perspective for developers in instilling critical immersion elements to the users while preparing to update the level.

  • The aim of this paper is to examine the importance of skills development in the process of employee performance. As part of this research, we will seek to determine the nature and extent of skills development impact in improving employee performance. This research project is one of the new themes that some researchers have started in recent years. The novelty of this theme is the inclusion of the skill development factor. This factor is likely to have a positive impact on employee motivation and performance. Some of the factors already known to have an impact on employee performance, such as motivation, career development, training, and experience, will be adopted. It is assumed that the results of this research will have a positive impact on employee performance and employee retention.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between process variables, personality traits, intrinsic/extrinsic motivation and their mathematical creativity and how much these factors affect this creativity. These results show the major factor in mathematical creativity as being the gender difference between the gifted male and female middle school students. This also suggests that the education and living guidance of both gifted male and female students should take a different direction in relation to their gender differences in middle schools. In conclusion, all of the normal intellective and non-intellective factors, as well as home process variables, are the basic major data concerned with the effects of mathematical creativity. So, it is with all of this research that the proof for researching synthetically via a new creative research model can be offered.
