  • In measuring EEG, which is widely used for studying brain function, EEG is frequently mixed with noise and artifact. In this study, the signals relevant to the artifact were distracted by applying ICA to EEG signal. First, each independent component which was assumed to be the source was separated by applying ICA to EEG which involved artifact relevant to the eye movement of a normal person. Next, the signal which was assumed to be artifact was removed from the separated 18 independent components, and the nonlinear analysis method such as correlation dimension and the Iyapunov exponent was applied to each reconstructed EEG signal and the original signal including artifact in order to find meaningful difference between the two signals and infer the anatomical localization of its source and distribution. This study shows it is possible not only to analyze the brain function visually and spatially for visually complex EEG signal, but also to observe its meaningful change through the quantitative analysis of EEG by means of the nonlinear analysis.

  • This paper presents the design and fabrication of a LC voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) using 1-poly 6-metal mixed signal CMOS process. To obtain the high-quality factor inductor in LC resonator, patterned-ground shields (PGS) is placed under the symmetric inductor to reduce the effect from image current of resistive Si substrate. Moreover, due to the incapability of using thick top metal layer of which the thickness is over $2{\mu}m$, as used in many RF CMOS process, the structure of dual-metal layer in which we make electrically short circuit between the top metal and the next metal below it by a great number of via materials along the metal traces is adopted. The circuit operated from 2.63 GHz to 3.09 GHz tuned by accumulation-mode MOS varactor. The corresponding tuning range was 460 MHz. The measured phase noise was -115 dBc/Hz @ 1MHz offset at 2.63 GHz carrier frequency and the current consumption and the corresponding power consumption were about 2.6 mA and 4.68 mW respectively.

  • In this paper, a noise cancellation-method using microphone array for digital hearing aids is proposed. The microphone array is located around the ear of a dummy. Speech sound is generated from the forward speaker positioned in the front of the dummy and noise sound is generated from the backward speaker. The speech and noise are mixed in the air space and entered into the microphones. VAD(voice activity detector) and ANC(adaptive noise cancellation) methods were used to eliminate noise in the sound of the microphones. 10 two-syllable words and 4 sentences were used for speech signals. Babble and car interior noise were used for noise signals. The performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated by SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) and PESQ-MOS(perceptual evaluation of speech quality-mean opinion score). In babble noise condition, SNR was improved as much as $7.963{\pm}1.3620dB\;and\;3.968{\pm}0.6659dB$ for words and sentences respectively. In the case of car interior noise, SNR was improved as $10.512{\pm}2.0665dB\;and\;6.000{\pm}1.7642dB$ for words and sentences respectively. PESQ-MOS of the babble noise was improved as much as $0.1722{\pm}0.0861$ score for words and $0.083{\pm}0.0417$ score for sentences. And PESQ-MOS of the car interior noise was improved as $0.2661{\pm}0.0335$ score and $0.040{\pm}0.0201$ score for words and sentences respectively. It is verified that the proposed algorithm has a good performance in noise cancellation of microphone array for digital hearing aids.

  • This paper is aimed to design 9.2 kbps low bits late transform excitation coder that target to voice and audio signal. To set up low bit rate, we used Band-selection in frequency domain and gain-shape quantization and AbS structure. To decrease lots of calculation from ABS structure, we used each band IDFT and synthesis. And we designed non-transfer band for performance by inserting comfort noise. We propose coder that has low bit rate and similar performance comparing with original 10.4 kbps AMR-WB+ TCX mode.

  • A digital readout IC for capacitive sensors is presented. Digital capacitance readout circuits suffer from static capacitance of sensors, especially single-ended sensors, and require large passive elements to cancel such DC offset signal. For this reason, to maximize a dynamic range with a small die area, the proposed circuit features digital filters having a coarse and fine compensation steps. Moreover, by employing switched-capacitor circuit for the front-end, correlated double sampling (CDS) technique can be adopted to minimize low-frequency device noise. The proposed circuit targeted 8-kHz signal bandwidth and oversampling ratio (OSR) of 64, thus a $3^{rd}$-order ${\Delta}{\Sigma}$ modulator operating at 1 MH was used for pulse-density-modulated (PDM) output. The proposed IC was designed in a 0.18-${\mu}m$ CMOS mixed-mode process, and occupied $0.86{\times}1.33mm^2$. The measurement results shows suppressed DC power under about -30 dBFS with minimized device flicker noise.

  • A problem of separating signals from noises is considered, when they are randomly mixed in the observation. It is assumed that the noise follows a Gaussian distribution and the signal follows a Gamma distribution, thus the underlying distribution of an observation will be a mixture of Gaussian and Gamma distributions. The parameters of the mixture model will be estimated from the EM algorithm. Then the signals and noises will be classified by a fixed threshold approach based on multiple testing using positive false discovery rate and Bayes error. The proposed method is applied to a real optical emission spectroscopy data for the quantitative analysis of inclusions. A simulation is carried out to compare the performance with the existing method using 3 sigma rule.

  • In general, almost information is stored in only a few wavelet coefficients. This sparse characteristic of wavelet coefficient can be modeled by the mixture of Gaussian probability density function and point mass at zero, and denoising for this prior model is peformed by using Bayesian estimation. In this paper, we propose a method of parameter estimation for denoising using hypothesis-testing problem. Hypothesis-testing problem is applied to variance of wavelet coefficient, and $X^2$-test is used. Simulation results show our method outperforms about 0.3dB higher PSNR(peak signal-to-noise ratio) gains compared to the states-of-art denoising methods when using orthogonal wavelets.

  • In this study, contains Design and Simulation data for Tone filter applied to the KSLV-1 FTS Receiver. Received Signal contains unwanted Noise and Jitter which should be eliminated by any kind of filters. In the design of KSLV-1 FTS Receiver, two different type of filters are used. One is Low-Pass Filter for rejecting high order harmonics and another is Tone Filter for sorting pure original signal in the mixed demodulate Signals. For the purpose of this development, various kinds of filter are studied and simulated for finding adequate type of filter.

  • We consider a two-hop multiple-relay network implemented with opportunistic decode-and-forward cooperative strategy, where the first hop and second hop links experience different fading (Rayleigh and Rician). We derive the exact expressions of end-to-end outage probability and analyze the approximate results in high signal-to-noise ratio region. The analysis shows that the same diversity order can be achieved even in different mixed fading environments. Simulation results are provided to verify our analysis.
