  • A space launch vehicle is a very complex system composed of many kinds of components. It is necessary for even a small piece of components in it to be free of defects, malfunctions and to operate normally for the sake of the mission success. For these reasous, a variety of tests are carried out. Burn-in test is to detect latent material and workmanship defects which occurs early in the components use. Developed countries for the space technology have considered the burn-in test for flight vehicles in the standard test documents and performed it. Referred to the documents, application methods of burn-in test will be considered for the components of domestic space launch vehicles such as KSLV-I in this document.

  • AESA radar is able to instantaneously and adaptively position and control the beam, and such adaptive beam pointing of AESA radar enables to remarkably improve the multi-mission capability. For this reason, Radar Resource Management(RRM) becomes new challenging issue. RRM is a technique efficiently allocating finite resources, such as energy and time to each task in an optimal and intelligent way. Especially radar beam scheduling is the most critical component for the success of RRM. In this paper, we proposed a rule-based scheduling algorithm and Simulated Annealing(SA) based scheduling algorithm, which are alternatively selected and applied to beam scheduler according radar load status in real-time. The performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated on the multi-function radar scenario. As a result, we showed that our proposed algorithm can process a lot of beams at the right time with real time capability, compared with applying only rule-based scheduling algorithm. Additionally, we showed that the proposed algorithm can save scheduling time remarkably, compared with applying only SA-based scheduling algorithm.

  • In order to carry out TQM and 6 Sigma management, it is the key elements to make clear a goal and a mission. Above all, we can succeed In achieving a dramatic change and a great outcome only when we make clear the method, incentives, organization and plans under the clear objective. In order to secure the competitiveness against the external challenge, it is essential to keep the several crucial factors such as CEO's will, the systematic process to measure and manage, monitoring to satisfy customer's needs and an aggressive development of TQM activity to encourage the endeavour of the relentless enhancement, and also a positive effort Is to be made for evaluating all quality culture like training experts internally by an outstanding training program under CEO's firm leadership. This study is carried out to understand that which features and factors of success can exist in a company culture if a company accepts a theoretical basis and concept, the general of TQM and 6 Sigma which are one of a management strategy, and carries out TQM and 6 Sigma for achieving improvement of quality and customer's satisfaction.

  • To enhance success probability of a system development project, its overall risk level should be minimized through systematically managing schedules, costs, and technical performances. However, Attempts to manage technical performance compared to numerous efforts to control costs and schedules in such projects are deficient. Particularly, a space launch vehicle, a large complex system, development project is much less likely to meet its technical performance objectives due to its technological difficulty, along with schedule delay and cost overrun. The technical performance management (TPM) is a method for tracking and managing technical progress in order to achieve technical performance targets within schedule and budget. In this paper, we investigate applications of the TPM in several space launch vehicle development projects. Then we propose and validate the TPM process to achieve a successful mission in such projects.

  • KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) has been developing the KPLO(Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter) for Korean first lunar exploration, and analysing various subjects for the mission success. Especially the performance of the communication is one of important factors, because massive scientific and technical data acquired by multiple payloads might be transferred to ground stations on the Earth. In this paper, we explained the study on the 1-day average downlink capacity based on the visibility analysis between ground stations and KPLO, and described its results.

  • Increase in use of lightweight structures, coupled with the increased acoustic loads resulting from larger and longer range guided missiles, has made missile more susceptible to failures caused by acoustic loads. Thus, accurate prediction of acoustic environment and the response is becoming ever more important for mission success. In this paper, the acoustic response of a sandwich composite skin structure to diffuse acoustic excitation is predicted over a broad frequency range. For the low frequency acoustic analysis, coupled FE-BEM method is used where the structure is modeled using FEM and the interior and exterior fluid is modeled using BEM. For the high frequency region, statistical energy analysis is applied. The predicted acoustic level inside the structure is compared with the result from acoustic test conducted in reverberation chamber, which shows very good agreement.

  • Estimating time and cost is an important mission in the early phase of a construction project, especially in feasibility study. It provides a foundation for making decision whether or not the project is performed on schedule and within budget. Thus, reliability of this estimate plays a key role in measuring the success of a project. This study was carried out to investigate the time-cost relationship in building construction projects in Bangladesh. The mathematical equation used in this study is based on Bromilow's equation. The research data were collected from sixty-three completed building projects through questionnaire survey. Type of clients, type of projects, and tender methods are the project characteristics considered in this study. The results of analysis indicated that the Bromilow's time-cost (BTC) models developed for each project characteristic are appropriate due to quite high coefficient of determination and relatively small mean percent errors. Among them, the forecasted model for time and cost according to tender methods is the best fit model. It is concluded that the BTC model could be applied in building construction project to predict its time and cost in Bangladesh. Four different regression models were also developed in this study. The results of BTC model between some selected countries were compared to gain the comprehensive view.

  • The design and analysis of satellite electrical power subsystem is an important driver for the mass, size, and capability of the satellite. In particular, satellite energy balance analysis is critical in determining the capabilities and limitations of the power subsystem and the success of satellite operations. This paper introduces a new energy balance analysis program for LEO satellite development and shows an example of test results using other LEO satellite design data. The test results show that the proposed energy balance program can be used the optimal sizing of satellite electrical power subsystem and the analytical prediction of the on-orbit energy balance during satellite mission operations.

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) is anticipated to be the future of technology. Hence, AI has been applied in various fields over the years and its applications are expected to grow in number with the passage of time. There has been a growing need for accurate, direct, and quick prediction of geotechnical and foundation engineering models especially since the success of each project relies on numerous amounts of data. In this study, two applications of AI in the field of geotechnical and foundation engineering are presented - spatial interpolation of standard penetration test (SPT) data and prediction of consolidation of clay. SPT and soil profile data may be predicted and estimated at any location and depth at a site that has no available borehole test data using artificial intelligence techniques such as artificial neural networks (ANN) based on available geospatial information from nearby boreholes. ANN can also be used to accelerate the calculation of various theoretical methods such as the one-dimensional consolidation theory of clay with high efficiency by using lesser computation resources. The results of the study showed that ANN can be a valuable, powerful, and practical tool in providing various information that is needed in geotechnical and foundation design.
