  • In this study, we obtain the spherical images of minimal curves in the complex space in ℂ4 which are obtained by translating Cartan frame vector fields to the centre of hypersphere, and present their properties such as becoming isotropic cubic, pseudo helix, and spherical involutes. Also, we examine minimal curves which are characterized by a system of differential equations.

  • Using the complex parabolic rotations of holomorphic null curves in ℂ4 we transform minimal surfaces in Euclidean space ℝ3 to a family of degenerate minimal surfaces in Euclidean space ℝ4. Applying our deformation to holomorphic null curves in ℂ3 induced by helicoids in ℝ3, we discover new minimal surfaces in ℝ4 foliated by hyperbolas or straight lines. Applying our deformation to holomorphic null curves in ℂ3 induced by catenoids in ℝ3, we rediscover the Hoffman-Osserman catenoids in ℝ4 foliated by ellipses or circles.

  • In ICISC 2007, Comuta and others showed that among the methods for constructing pairing-friendly curves, those using cyclotomic polynomials, that is, the Brezing-Weng method and the Freeman-Scott-Teske method, are affected by Cheon's algorithm. This paper proposes a method for searching parameters of pairing-friendly elliptic curves that induces minimal security loss by Cheon's algorithm. We also provide a sample set of parameters of BN-curves, FST-curves, and KSS-curves for pairing-based cryptography.

  • For a nondegenerate irreducible projective variety, it is a classical problem to describe its defining equations and the syzygies among them. In this paper, we precisely determine a minimal generating set and the minimal free resolution of defining ideals of some rational curves of maximal genus in ℙ3.

  • Let $C{\subset}{\mathbb{P}}^r$ be a nondegenerate projective curve of degree d > r + 1 and of maximal regularity. Such curves are always contained in the threefold scroll S(0, 0, r - 2). Also some of such curves are even contained in a rational normal surface scroll. In this paper we study the minimal free resolution of the homogeneous coordinate ring of C in the case where $d{\leq}2r-2$ and C is contained in a rational normal surface scroll. Our main result provides all the graded Betti numbers of C explicitly.

  • For a reduced, irreducible and nondegenerate curve C ⊂ ℙr of degree d, it was shown that the arithmetic genus g of C has an upper bound π0(d, r) by G. Castelnuovo. And he also classified the curves that attain the extremal value. These curves are arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay and contained in a surface of minimal degree. In this paper, we investigate the arithmetic genus of curves lie on a surface of minimal degree - the Veronese surface, smooth rational normal surface scrolls and singular rational normal surface scrolls. We also provide a construction of curves on singular rational normal surface scroll S(0, 2) ⊂ ℙ3 which attain the maximal arithmetic genus.

  • In this article, we consider an unbounded minimal graph $M{\subset}R^3$ which is contained in a slab. Assume that ${\partial}M$ consists of two Jordan curves lying in parallel planes, which is symmetric with the reflection under a plane. If the asymptotic behavior of M is also symmetric in some sense, then we prove that the minimal graph is itself symmetric along the same plane.

  • Let x : $M^{n}$ .rarw. $E^{m}$ be an isometric immersion of a manifold $M^{n}$ into the Euclidean space $E^{m}$ and .DELTA. the Laplacian of $M^{n}$ defined by -div.omicron.grad. The family of such immersions satisfying the condition .DELTA.x = .lambda.x, .lambda..mem.R, is characterized by a well known result ot Takahashi (8]): they are either minimal in $E^{m}$ or minimal in some Euclidean hypersphere. As a generalization of Takahashi's result, many authors ([3,6,7]) studied the hypersurfaces $M^{n}$ in $E^{n+1}$ satisfying .DELTA.x = Ax + b, where A is a square matrix and b is a vector in $E^{n+1}$, and they proved independently that such hypersurfaces are either minimal in $E^{n+1}$ or hyperspheres or spherical cylinders. Since .DELTA.x = -nH, the submanifolds mentioned above satisfy .DELTA.H = .lambda.H or .DELTA.H = AH, where H is the mean curvature vector field of M. And the family of hypersurfaces satisfying .DELTA.H = .lambda.H was explored for some cases in [4]. In this paper, we classify space curves x : R .rarw. $E^{3}$ satisfying .DELTA.x = Ax + b or .DELTA.H = AH, and find conditions for such curves to be equivalent.alent.alent.
