  • Background: This study investigated the effect of increased job stress, caused by musculoskeletal disease (MSD) among firefighters, on a firefighter's intention to leave the profession, henceforth referred to as "turnover intention," and verified the moderating effect of mindfulness on such a relationship. Methods: A survey involving a total of 549 Korean male firefighters as participants was conducted herein, and the following results were obtained: the mediation effect of the MSD to turnover intention through job stress was confirmed, and the indirect effect of job stress was verified. Results: We verified the moderated mediation effect of mindfulness on the relation:MSD, job stress, and turnover intention. The conditional indirect effect for middle and high levels of mindfulness is significant. Conclusion: The result of this study is supported by proofs of the relationship between a firefighter's MSD, job stress, and turnover intention, and these case studies reveal the moderated mediation effect of dispositional mindfulness.

  • Purpose: This study examined the relationship among stressful life events, mindfulness and depression, and explored the mediating role of mindfulness between stressful life events and depression in nursing students. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was undertaken. A sample of 120 nursing students participated in the study. The self-reported measures of stressful life events (revised life stress scale), depression (DASS-D) and mindfulness (MAAS) were adopted in April, 2017. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression. Mediation analysis was performed using the Baron & Kenny method and Sobel test. Results: The mean scores of stressful life events, mindfulness and depression were 39.50, 77.03, and 8.18, respectively. Higher levels of stressful life events were associated with lower mindfulness (r = -46, p < .001) and higher depression (r = -44, p < .001), and mindfulness was negatively associated with depression (r = -72, p < .001). Mindfulness showed full mediation in the relationship between stressful life events and depression. Conclusion: Stressful life events influenced the nursing students' depression via the full mediating effect of mindfulness. Promoting mindfulness plays an important role in reducing depression in nursing students. Therefore, it is important to develop a mindfulness program or use a mindfulness-based stress reduction program (MBSR) for nursing students.

Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2-test$, Fisher's exact test, t-test, Mann-Whitney U test. The results showed there were significant decrease for perceived stress(t=-9.43, p=.025) and improved self-esteem(t=1.98, p=.038) in the experimental compared to group control group. These findings indicate that mindfulness meditation programs is effective to psychological well-being in nursing college students. • Mindfulness is being used as one of the techniques for emotional regulation. In emotional regulation, mindfulness is considered as an uncontrolled way in that it observes the present experience as it is, rather than attempting to reduce or eliminate negative affective experiences. However, in this study, the purpose of this study is to confirm that mindfulness can affect emotional regulation through perceived control. To confirm this, I verified whether perceived control had a mediating effect on the relationship between mindfulness and difficulty in emotional regulation. For this 366 university students (179 males, 187 females) were surveyed using the scales of mindfulness, perceived control, and difficulty in emotional regulation, and mediation was analysed using Hayes' PROCESS macro. As a result of the analysis, it was found that perceived control had a fully mediating effect in the relationship between mindfulness and emotional regulation difficulties. These results suggest that mindfulness affect emotional regulation through perceived control.
