  • This study accordingly brought the analysis of the error into focus to instruct the liner inequality efficiently. Students, in result, committed errors: misused data(14.6%), misinterpreted problem(15.0%), logically invalid inference(2.7%), misunderstood theorem or definition(22.1%), unmatched solution(22.4%), technical error(17.5%), omission of solving process(5.7%). Through the analysis of preceding errors, I try to emphasize the following in instructing students: First, you must emphasize studying of concept of the liner inequality and instruct students in the use of that Second, you must minimize the error by searching for the error that students are apt to commit and showing the anti-example when you instruct them in the liner inequality. Third, after evaluation, you must tell the result to students, and show many forms of the liner inequality with various means lest they should commit the same error. Therefore, if an instructor gives lessons to the students studying the instructive methods in order not to make errors about the contents mentioned above, it will help students understand much faster and arouse their curiosities and interests in lessons, and so they will take lessons willingly.

  • In the process of solving a linear equation, some questions had equal sign('=') relation properly, while other questions did not have equal sign('=') relation properly. Since whether students could express equal sign('=') relation properly or not is determined by questions, the direction for teaching should be instituted, and instruction and teaching should be conducted by comparing and analyzing after conducing tests on may items. Most of students who got the answer for items without the method of solving a linear equation solved the items using binomial. For questions asking to solve using the characteristic of equality, most of students solved the questions using binomial instead of using the characteristic of equality. Therefore, instruction and learning to solve equations using both the characteristic of equality and binomial have to be achieved.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate teachers' perceptions of gender differences in students' mathematics and science learning ability. The sample included 289 elementary and secondary school gifted teachers. The teachers filled out the survey, asking their perceptions of gender differences in mathematics and science learning ability, as well as of the reasons of the differences. The results were as follows: 1) 65% of the teachers responded that gender differences existed in students' mathematics and science learning ability, 2) 63% of the teachers perceived that the differences began around higher elementary or middle school ages, 3) 57% of the teachers thought that gender differences existed in the high-achieving student group. Teachers perceived the reasons of differences were 1) differences in inborn ability, 2) the different expectation, and 3) the different ways of parental cares. Since teachers' perceptions of students' ability would impact teachers' attitudes on students, implications and suggestions were included in this article to provide teachers insights that promote students' better learning.

  • This study was designed for the purpose of identifying the influences of improved teaching method which constructed at the base of results of survey for finding present teaching-learning method of incenter and circumcenter of triangle. For this, we surveyed the students' understanding and math teachers' teaching method of incenter and circumcenter of triangle. Then, we designed alternative teaching method which innovated the problems from the resultic approaches of Incenter and circumcenter of triangle. And then, we taught students through new method and analyzed the influences of it to students.

  • Factors influencing mathematics academic achievement are constantly changing and have direct and indirect effects on mathematics achievement, so longitudinal studies that can predict and analyze their growth are needed. This study uses longitudinal data on students from 2011 (5th grade of elementary school) to 2015 (2nd grade of middle school) of the Seoul Education Longitudinal Study, and divides them into groups with similar longitudinal changes in mathematics academic achievement. The direct and indirect effects of learning attitudes and achievement goals were examined. As a result of the study, it was found that learning effort and learning attitude had a direct effect on mathematics achievement in 1 group (2277 students, 67.7%), and learning attitude had a direct effect on mathematics achievement in 3 groups (958 students, 28.5%). And it was found that learning effort h ad an indirect effect. In addition, it was found that both learning attitudes, learning efforts, and achievement goals had no effect on the academic achievement of mathematics in the second group (127 students, 3.8%).

  • Students have difficulties in solving linear equation problems with a variable on the right side rather than linear equation problems a variable on the left side of the sign of equality. In order for students to overcome such difficulties, opportunities to experience many types of basic linear equation problems would have to be provided. Also, it is necessary to examine the process of students' problem solving process by constructing various types of evaluation item and test them in instruction and learning of linear equations, or grasp students' studying statues through individual interview and based on theses, error correction through feedbacks have to be achieved.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the longitudinal impact of the engagement of private tutoring on student achievement and the influence of the engagement of gifted education on the effect of private tutoring by applying hierarchical linear growth modeling technique on the KELS (Korean Education Longitudinal Study) data. For the analysis, we used KELS data including the score of Mathematics achievement from 2005 to 2007 in order to get useful variables like whether or not to engage private tutoring, weekly time and monthly cost of private tutoring, the experience of gifted education, gender, prior achievement of 6th grade, parents' monthly income, internal motivation and self-efficacy. The sample consisted of 4,435 7th graders from Korean middle schools who were included in the KELS and have the data available to a significant dataset having no missing values include. The result suggest that the private tutoring experience predicted students' high Mathematics achievement and the interaction between grade and private tutoring time and cost has negative impact on the mathematics achievement. In contrast, it was found that the experience of gifted education has negative impact on the growth of mathematics achievement, but positive impact on the effect of private tutoring cost on the mathematics achievement. In other words, the experience of gifted education shows affirmative impact on the effect of private tutoring cost on the mathematics achievement indirectly. On the basis of this results, we discussed deeply the effect of private tutoring on the Mathematics achievement and the influence and its meaning of the experience of gifted education on the effect of private tutoring.

  • In this paper we study Soltan & Meidman's method that is able to be used in mathematical discovery. We analyze Soltan & Meidman's book "Tozdestva i Neravenstva v Treugolike" that is published in Moldova Republic. In this work we formulate Soltan & Meidman's method related with discovery of triangle's various equalities, and use the method to discovery mathematical equalities. As a result we suggest some new mathematical equalities related with triangle's sides and its proof.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of digital mathematics textbook on spatial abilities, interest and achievement of 6th graders. For this, research questions were set as follow: A. Is there any difference in cognitive ability in the space perception test between the experimental group and the control group. B. What distinctive attributes exist between the experimental group and the control group in the Spatial abilities? C. Is there any difference in learners' interest and achievement between the experiment group and the control group. To investigate the research questions, two classes of 6th grade children were selected from an elementary school in Daejeon and assigned one as experimental group and the other as control group. The experimental group studied mathematics using Digital Textbooks under an individual PC environment while the control group studied using the existing book-type textbooks. The following results and conclusions were obtained from the research. First, the effect of the Digital Textbooks on children's mathematics achievement was not statistically meaningful even though there was some progress in children's achievement. Furthermore, it was not found that the usage of a Digital Textbooks consistently influenced improvement in the students' interest in mathematics. Second, there were some positive changes in the achievement of Spatial ability of the middle subgroup of pretest score in the experiment group. It can have some educational implication that the Digital Textbooks can affect positively to the middle group in mathematics achievement who dominated more than 50% of the class. Third, the number of correct answers was found to be somewhat higher than that of the control group in spatial reasoning items. This means that the learning environment with Digital Textbooks allow more opportunities for manipulating geometric objects physically and mentally. Therefore, It seems necessary to offer various resources such as digital contents for students' geometric learning. For future research, It is strongly recommended to fix the bugs of the digital textbook programs and to upgrade the operating system of the computer.
