In this paper we consider the periodic Cauchy problem for the generalized two-component Hunter-Saxton system with analytic initial data and we prove a Cauchy-Kowalevski type theorem for the generalized two-component Hunter-Saxton system, that establishes the existence and uniqueness of real analytic solutions.

We survey recent results on the inverse kinematic problem arising in geophysics. The question is whether one can determine the sound speed (index of refraction) of a medium by measuring the travel times of the corresponding ray paths. We emphasize the anisotrpic case.

In this short note, we prove an open problem for the interval (-∞, ∞), related to a reverse trigonometric Masjed-Jamei inequality presented in [2] and establish a new inequality of a similar kind.
