  • The purpose of this study is to explore ways to improve major satisfaction that can be applied by universities through the analysis of factors influencing major satisfaction of engineering college students. To this end, Korea-National Survey of Student Engagement(K-NSSE) data involving 814 students from T University were used, and logistic regression analysis and t-test were applied. The main results obtained through this are as follows. First, engineering college students' major satisfaction factors include major-career relevance, college immersion, and positive academic sentiment. Second, depending on the grade, it was confirmed that the factor of major-career relevance in the lower grades, and the factors of meaningful learning experience and college immersion in addition to major-career relevance in the upper grades had a significant influence. Third, the higher the meaningful learning experience, positive academic sentiment, and college immersion, including the major-career relevance, the higher the major satisfaction was found in the middle-class group with a score of BO or higher. This study is meaningful in that it revealed differences in influence by individual characteristics as well as major satisfaction influencing factors that can be practiced in universities such as learning experiences.

The questionnaire was used to investigate general characteristics, empathy, and major satisfaction. The analysis was based on frequency analysis, p value of t or F value, Pearson correlation, regression analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis using SPSS 18.0. The result of this study were as follows: (1) The C University showed higher satisfaction than J University(3.44), (2) the factors affecting major satisfaction were school location, grade, religion, cognitive empathy, and emotional empathy correlated, Regression analysis was used to examine factors that correlated with major satisfaction, followed by hierarchical regression analysis to identify the most influential factors. Results: Satisfaction with major was higher for second year students compared to third year students. And the satisfaction was higher for those with a higher Grade point average (${\geq}_-3.5$) compared to those with a lower. Self-oriented perfectionism had a higher score than socially-prescribed perfectionism and academic resilience based on self-control was rated the highest score of the subcategories. The degree of satisfaction was positively correlated with Self-oriented perfectionism and academic resilience. The final regression model showed that grade and academic resilience accounted for 34.2% of the variance in predicting the level of satisfaction with major. Conclusion: The results suggest that it is crucial to find a strategy that could enhance academic resilience, especially designed for upper-year university students, to improve the level of satisfaction with major.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify mediating effect of major satisfaction in the effect of critical thinking disposition on disaster recognition. For this study, 237 students of nursing students from universities in Jeollanam do participated in the study. The data collection was collected on Dec 1 to 7, 2017. The descriptive statistics was used to analyze general characteristics of participants, the differences in disaster recognition according to general characteristics were analyzed by t-test or ANOVA. Regression analysis was conducted to confirm the effect of critical thinking disposition on disaster recognition and Baron, R.M. And Kenny, D.A.'s mediation effect statistic analysis was used to confirm the mediating effect of major satisfaction in critical thinking disposition on disaster recognition. As a result, the critical thinking disposition affects the disaster recognition, and it was judged that the major satisfaction was mediating role. intellectual fairness sub-factor showed perfect mediating effect and confidence and general truth sub-factor showed partial mediating effect. Based on the above findings, it can be seen that not only critical thinking but also satisfaction with the major should be considered in order to increase the recognition of the sudden disaster. In this case, research for linking critical thinking disposition and major satisfaction is likely to be meaningful. Through the results of this study, we suggest the program development of a linkage between critical thinking disposition and major satisfaction to increase the recognition of disaster.
