  • In this paper, frequency synthesizer for radar system is designed and developed. Optimizing the phase noise and lock time, each module is designed as two-type PLL circuit, and then the performance of PLL frequency synthesizer is compared. The experiment result shows the lock time of 70 usec, the phase noise of less then 100 dBc, the bandwidth above 500MHz.

  • This paper presents a fast switching CMOS frequency synthesizer with a new coarse tuning scheme for PHS applications. The proposed coarse tuning method selects the optimal tuning capacitances of the LC-VCO to optimize the phase noise and the lock-time. The measured lock-time is about $20{\mu}s$ and the phase noise is -121dBc/Hz at 600kHz offset. This chip is fabricated with $0.25{\mu}m$ CMOS technology, and the die area is $0.7mm{\times}2.1mm$. The power consumption is 54mW at 2.7V supply voltage.

  • In lock-in thermography, a phase difference between the defect area and the healthy area indicates the qualitative location and size of the defect. To accurately estimate these parameters, the shearing-phase technique has been employed which gives the shearing-phase distribution. The shearing-phase distribution has maximum, minimum, and zero points that help determine quantitatively the size and location of the subsurface defect. In experiment, the proposed technique is verified with artificial specimen and these related factors are analyzed.

  • The development of SFCL (Superconducting Fault Current Limiter) is getting more important as the power demand is increased rapidly. Up to now, several kinds of SFCL have been proposed and it is expected that they will be applied to appropriate position considering their own properties. Amongst those proposed SFCL, flux-lock type SFCL using the magnetic cancelation for current limiting has the advantages of overcoming the technical difficulties that other types of SFCLs have. In this paper, the integrated three-phase flux-lock type SFCL was fabricated and its operational modes were investigated through the short circuit tests. The operational mode were to divided into four mode according to the variation of the currents flowing into the secondary winding connected the superconducting elements and the speed of the quench generation. It was expected that the improvement of current limiting characteristics of the SFCL could be possible through control of the operational mode.

  • In this paper, we estimate the scale factor error and random walk characteristics of the ring laser gyro which has the body dither for Lock-in compensation. And then, we compared those results with the static test results for 28cm square ring laser gyro which has about 0.5 deg/sec static Lock-in. In the case of sinusoidal body dither, dynamic Lock-in occurs periodically at the points where the gyro output pulse becomes the integer multiples of body dither frequency. The width of dynamic Lock-in is changed by variation of dither amplitude, and, between the width of dynamic Lock-in which occurs at the even multiple points of body dither frequency and that at the odd muliple points of body dither frequency, it has 180o phase difference. Generally random body dither is adopted to compensate for dynamic Lock-in. Then if the irregularity is not large enough, the scale factor error by dynamic Lock-in is not vanished. And if the irregularity is large enough, the scale factor error decreases, but random walk becomes larger relatively. And we confirmed that the larger body dither amplitude, the smaller random walk.

  • This study presents a feedback control methodology for suppression of the vortex shedding from a circular cylinder in a uniform flow. A rotational oscillation is applied as a controlled forcing and the lift coefficient ($C_L$) is used as a feedback signal. A feedback control concept is made based on the phase relation between the rotation velocity and $C_L$ at 'lock-on', The phase between the forcing and the vortex formation is changed $180^{\circ}$ from the phase of enhancing the lock-on state. This concept is examined by solving the Van del Pol equation. The results are satisfactory.

  • A delay switching PLL (DSPLL) is proposed for improvement of the frequency acquisition Performance (pull-in range) while keeping a narrow bandwidth LPF. It has, between the phase detector and the LPF, just a simple RC delay circuit, a switch and another phase detector controlling the switching time. For the common second order PLL, the pull-in capability of the DSPLL is analyzed approximately, without considering additive white noise effect, and verified experimentally. It is shown that the delay switching extends the pull-in range significantly, as much as a half of lock-range. At the phase tracking mode, the delay switching does not function, to make the DSPLL be a normal PLL.

  • A broadband radio frequency synthesizer for multi-band, multi-standard mobile DTV tuners is proposed, it's loop bandwidth can be calibrated to optimize integrated phase noise performance without the problem of phase noise peaking. For this purpose, we proposed a new third-order scalable loop filter and a scalable charge pump circuit to minimize the variation in phase margin during calibration. The prototype phase-lock loop is fabricated in 180nm complementary metal-oxide semiconductor shows that it effectively prevents phase noise peaking from growing while the loop bandwidth increases by up to three times.

  • The flow past a circular cylinder forced to vibrate transversely is numerically simulated by solving the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations modified by the vibration velocity of a circular cylinder at a Reynolds number of 164. The higher-order finite difference scheme is employed for the spatial discretization along with the second order Adams-Bashforth and the first order backward-Euler time integration. The calculated cylinder vibration frequency is between 0.60 and 1.30 times of the natural vortex-shedding frequency. The calculated oscillation amplitude extends to 25% of the cylinder diameter and in the case of the lock-in region it is 60%. It is made clear that the cylinder oscillation has influence on the wake pattern, the time histories of the drag and lift forces, power spectral density and phase diagrams, etc. It is found that these results include both the periodic (lock-in) and the quasi-periodic (non-lock-in) state. The vortex shedding frequency equals the driving frequency in the lock-in region but is independent in the non-lock-in region. The mean drag and the maximum lift coefficient increase with the increase of the forcing amplitude in the lock-in state. The lock-in boundaries are also established from the present direct numerical simulation.
