  • The purpose of this study is to verify the hypothesis that the contents and range of library services are changed as the use of videotex systems increases. 1000 members of Chollian II were chosen as subjects for this study and the questionnaire was posted to them. The returned responses to questionnaire were analyzed with the statistical software packages 'SAS PC' and 'STATGRAPHICS'. The findings and conclusions of this study are summarised as follows: 1. Users of Chollian II make more use of videotex systems in seeking daily information than in seeking scholarly and professional information. It seems desirable to co-ordinate the services of videotex systems and libraries by redefining the traditional boundary of the two systems. Users will then conveniently get daily information through videotex servics, scholarly and professional information through the reference service of libraries. 2. Sex does not make any significant difference in the use of videotex systems. Most frequent use of videotex systems is made by those at the age of thirties. Businessmen and enterprisers make the most frequent use of videotex systems. Those of higher education are the best users. 3. As the use of videotex systems increases, use of newspapers and periodicals decreases while its increase rarely has influence on the use of library materials. 4. There is limited correlation between the use of videotex systems and that of library services. The increase of the use of videotex systems does not significantly increase or decrease the use of libraries. It changes, however, the pattern and methods of information services provided by libraries. 5. Users of special libraries make the most frequent use of videotex systems and there is not much difference in the use by users of other kinds of libraries.

This study also examines the social context of data literacy as lifelong education. In addition, it was attempted to understand the changed environment and propose library services in the post-pandemic era based on predicted trends. In order to do this, two phenomena that are currently striking our society, datafication and the pandemic, were reviewed in general, and studies related to library information services in response to the pandemic were examined. Based on this, the social meaning of data literacy in the pandemic era was reconfirmed and the environmental changes faced by libraries were examined based on 20 trends suggested by IFLA. Through this process, the study was concluded by suggesting the implementation of data literacy and the direction of library services.

A total of 242 questions from two electronic bulletin boards was examined in terms of 6 types of questions asked and 23 subareas of education. The study found that 56.1% of reference questions on the library bulletin board were pure reference questions in curriculum, textbooks and teaching & instruction. • This study noted the recent impact of Coronavirus Disease-19 (Corona 19) on the environment surrounding the library, and investigated the libraries' response activities. In addition, related issues on news media and social media were detected based on text mining techniques to engage environmental changes surrounding the library. Key issues were derived from 1,852 news reports on the library related to the Corona 19 situation and 227,983 tweets related to the library during the Corona 19 epidemic. Through this, implications were derived: prolonged 'Untact' situations, increased e-book lending, improved expectations for online services and librarians, and re-conceptualized library space. In addition, the direction of future services was discussed by selecting representative examples of library services provided in the non-face-to-face (untact) situation and dividing them into books, services, and spaces.

  • A study on the remote library users showed that remote users preferred online databases and internet as information resources because of easy access and easy of use. However, they have used books and journals, which are printed resources, as main information resources because online databases and internet cannot satisfy their information needs. Also, 86.7 percent of remote users consider library services as an important issue to choose a distance learning program, and remote users extremely motivated by their professors to use library so that there are needs to have partnership between distance learning programs and library services. Finally, remote users consider authority and accuracy and contents of obtained information as important issues for their information rather than design of the databases, so that library should secure more digitalized information for remote users needs. This study is to contribute to improve quality of information services for remote users, however, it is not thoroughgoing enough, and there should be successive researches in the future.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the tendency to study children's services in libraries korea and in North America in order to analyze the implications for future studies in the field of Library and Information Science. Looking at masters and doctoral theses submitted from 1981 to 2010, we analyzed 110 theses in Korea and 89 theses in North America. After reviewing the abstracts of the theses, we classified their subjects into six categories, including the materials, services, programs, administration and management, type of children, and the theory and history behind each library's services. Four things stood out from the study. First, the number of theses in Korea has had a sharp increase recently, but in North America there has been a steady increase for a longer period of time. Second, the theses about library programs are approximately 50% in Korea, but in North America 50% of those theses were about materials for children. Third, in Korea about 90% of the theses are for master's degree, while approximately 90% in North America are for doctoral degree. Fourth, looking at each of the different categories, Korea seemed to focus on the services and programs offered and the administration and management, while North America focused on the materials offered, the type of children to partake in the services and the theory and history behind the services offered.
