A new transformer winding method is proposed in this paper. Generally, PWM ZVS topologies use a leakage inductor to achieve ZVS operation. However, the leakage inductance of the transformer is not often enough to meet ZVS condition. Therefore, an additional leakage inductor is necessary, which causes large core loss because high input voltage is applied to the additional leakage inductor during a short commutation period. In this paper, a new separated leakage inductor winding (SLW) method is proposed. With the proposed winding method, a leakage inductor and a transformer can be combined in one ferrite core. Therefore, size and core loss of the additional leakage inductor can be reduced. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed winding method can achieve a significant efficiency improvement in a 1210.8W (12V, 100.9A) prototype converter.

The coupling coefficient K controls the characteristic behaviors of leakage transformer. The value of coupling coefficient K was obtained from th leakage flux of leakage transformer an ascertained from the variation due to the function of current. Therefore, this paper presented the equivalent circuit of leakage transformer consisting of Thevenin's constant voltage source and inductor as (1-K2)L2 which were proportional to parameter K. The proposed equivalent circuit verified the validity in designing the leakage transformer because it was in good agreements of the behaviors of ideal transformer (K is 1), leakage transformer (K is 0$\leq$K$\leq$1), inductor (K is 0).

This paper proposed a new zero-voltage switching(ZVS) Two-Inductor boost converter. The conventional Two-Inductor boost converter has defect. When the switch is turned off, the high voltage spike is occurred in the switch by leakage inductance and switch parasitic capacitor. To solve this problem, the parallel resonant capacitor is added to the conventional Two-Inductor boost converter. Using quasi-resonant between parallel resonant capacitance and leakage inductance, the switches is operated soft switching. A reduction of transformer turn ratio is achieved by the voltage doubler rectifier.
This paper presents a new structure for a step up dc-dc converter, which has several advantageous features. Firstly, the input dc source and the clamped capacitor are connected in series to transfer energy to the load through dual voltage multiplier cells. Therefore, the proposed converter can produce a very high voltage and a high conversion efficiency. Secondly, a double voltage clamped circuit is introduced to the primary side of the coupled inductor. The energy of the leakage inductance of the coupled inductor is recycled and the inrush current problem of the clamped circuits can be shared equally by two synchronous clamped capacitors. Therefore, the voltage spike of the switch tube is solved and the current stress of the diode is reduced. Thirdly, dual voltage multiplier cells can absorb the leakage inductance energy of the secondary side of the coupled inductor to obtain a higher efficiency. Fourthly, the active switch turns on at almost zero current and the reverse-recovery problem of the diodes is alleviated due to the leakage inductance, which further improves the conversion efficiency. The operating principles and a steady-state analysis of the continuous, discontinuous and boundary conduction modes are discussed in detail. Finally, the validity of this topology is confirmed by experimental results.
This paper investigates the design of multi-winding coupled inductor for minimum inductor current ripple. Based on the general circuit model of coupled inductor together with the operating principles of dc-dc converter, the relationship between the ripple size of inductor current and the coupling factor is derived under the different duty ratio. The optimal coupling factor of n-phase multi-winding coupled inductor which corresponds to a minimum inductor ripple current becomes -(1/n-1), i.e. a complete inverse coupling without leakage inductance, as the duty ratio of steady-state operating point approaches 1/n, 2/n, ${\cdots}$ or (n-1)/n. In an opposite manner, the optimal coupling factor value of zero, i.e. zero mutual inductance, is required when the duty ratio of steady-state operating point approaches either zero or one. Therefore, coupled inductors having optimal coupling factor can minimize the ripple current of inductor and inductor size.
In this paper, a power loss analysis technique of a high-frequency transformer of a bidirectional DAB (Dual Active Bridge) converter is reported. To miniaturize the transformer of the dual active bridge converter, a resonant inductor was designed with an air gap included low-coupled rate state core to combine leakage inductor with the resonant inductor which is required for soft-switching. In this paper, leakage inductance and magnetizing inductance, core material, type of winding and winding method are included in the dual active bridge transformer loss analysis process to enable optimal design at the initial design stage. Transformer loss analysis for dual active bridge with a switching frequency of 200 kHz and maximum output of 5 kW was executed, and elements necessary for design based on the number of turns on the primary side were graphed while maintaining the transformer turns ratio and window area. In particular, it was possible to determine the optimal number of turns and thickness of the transformer, and ultimately, the total loss of the transformer could be estimated.
A novel step-up DC-DC converter with a switched-coupled-inductor-capacitor (SCIC) which successfully integrates three-winding coupled inductors and switched-capacitor techniques is proposed in this paper. The primary side of the coupled inductors for the SCIC is charged by the input source, and the capacitors are charged in parallel and discharged in series by the secondary windings of the coupled inductor to achieve a high step-up voltage gain with an appropriate duty ratio. In addition, the passive lossless clamped circuits recycle the leakage energy and reduce the voltage stress on the main switch effectively, and the reverse-recovery problem of the diodes is alleviated by the leakage inductor. Thus, the efficiency can be improved. The operating principle and steady-state analyses of the converter are discussed in detail. Finally, a prototype circuit at a 50 kHz switching frequency with a 20-V input voltage, a 200-V output voltage, and a 200-W output power is built in the laboratory to verify the performance of the proposed converter.
This paper investigates the design of coupled inductor for minimum inductor current ripple in rapid traction battery charger systems. Based on the general circuit model of coupled inductor together with the operating principles of dc-dc converter, the relationship between the ripple size of inductor current and the coupling factor is derived under the different duty ratio. The optimal coupling factor which corresponds to a minimum inductor ripple current becomes -0.5, i.e. a complete inverse coupling without leakage inductance, as the steady-state duty ratio operating point approaches 1/3 or 2/3. In an opposite manner, the optimal coupling factor value of zero, i.e. zero mutual inductance, is required when the steady-state duty ratio operating point approaches either zero or one. Coupled inductors having optimal coupling factor can minimize the ripple current of inductor and battery current resulting in a reliable and efficient operation of battery chargers.
The LLC series resonant converter with a LLT (Inductor-Inductor-Transformer) transformer for PDP power supply is presented. LLT transformer used to combine the inductor and transformer into one unit has the increased leakage inductance in the primary and secondary due to the winding method and the use of the gaped core. The increased leakage inductance in the primary and secondary of LLT transformer can be impacted on the DC voltage gain characteristics of LLC series resonant converter. In this paper, DC gain characteristics and the experimental results of the LLC series resonant converter with a LLT transformer are verified on the Math-CAD simulation based on the theoretical analysis and the 600W experimental prototype.

This study proposes a new type of active-clamp forward-flyback converter with two transformers that operate in forward and flyback modes during on and off times, respectively, instead of not using an output inductor. The main switch can be turned on with zero-voltage switching (ZVS) using the leakage inductance of the transformer and the output capacitor of the main switch. The leakage inductance should be increased to ZVS. However, the ringing between the leakage inductance of the transformer and the parasitic output capacitance of the secondary side rectifier switches results in a serious voltage spike. A forward-flyback converter employing auxiliary inductor and auxiliary diode is proposed to overcome the problem. The operational principles are analyzed in detail and validated through experiments with a 385 V-to-53 V/37 A prototype.
