  • Using an inverse of the geometric Jacobian matrix is one of the most popular ways to control robot manipulators, because the Jacobian matrix contains the relationship between joint space velocities and operational space velocities. However, the control algorithm based on Jacobian matrix has algorithmic singularities: The robot manipulator becomes unstable when the Jacobian matrix loses rank. To solve this problem, various methods such as damped and filtered inverse have been proposed, but comparative studies to evaluate the performance of these algorithms are insufficient. Thus, this paper deals with a comparative analysis of six representative singularity avoidance algorithms: Damped Pseudo Inverse, Error Damped Pseudo Inverse, Scaled Jacobian Transpose, Selectively Damped Inverse, Filtered Inverse, and Task Transition Method. Especially, these algorithms are verified through computer simulations with a virtual model of a humanoid robot, THORMANG, in order to evaluate tracking error, computational time, and multiple task performance. With the experimental results, this paper contains a deep discussion about the effectiveness and limitations of each algorithm.

  • A purpose of developing a sound source tracking system in this paper is to reduce the noise efficiently from the received signal by microphone array and measure the signal's time delay between the microphones. I have applied the wavelet analysis algorithm to the system and calculated the sound source's relative position For the performance evaluation, I have compared with the results of utilizing the digital filtering methods based on the FIR LPF using Kaiser window function and the inverse Chebyshev IIR LPF. As a result, I have confirmed the fact that 'time-scale' filter using inverse discrete wavelet transform was suitable for this system.

  • Analysis of actuating forces and joint reaction forces are essential to determine the capacity of actuators, to control the system and to design the components. This paper presents an algorithm tha t calculates actuating forces(or torques) depending on the various driving types to produce a given system motion. The joint reaction forces(or torques) of multibody systems with closed-loops are analyzed in the Cartesian coordinate space using the inverse velocity transformation technique. Two numerical examples were carried out to verify the algorithm proposed.

  • Artificial intelligence has emerged as the core of the 4th industrial revolution, and large amounts of data processing, such as big data technology and rapid data analysis, are inevitable. The most fundamental and universal data interpretation technique is an analysis of information through regression, which is also the basis of machine learning. Ridge regression is a technique of regression that decreases sensitivity to unique or outlier information. The time-consuming calculation portion of the matrix computation, however, basically includes the introduction of an inverse matrix. As the size of the matrix expands, the matrix solution method becomes a major challenge. In this paper, a new algorithm is introduced to enhance the speed of ridge regression estimator calculation through series expansion and computation recycle without adopting an inverse matrix in the calculation process or other factorization methods. In addition, the performances of the proposed algorithm and the existing algorithm were compared according to the matrix size. Overall, excellent speed-up of the proposed algorithm with good accuracy was demonstrated.

  • This study proposes an analytical approximation algorithm based on extreme value theory (EVT) for the inverse of the power of the incomplete Gamma function. First, the Gumbel function is used to approximate the power of the incomplete Gamma function, and the corresponding inverse problem is transformed into the inversion of an exponential function. Then, using the tail equivalence theorem, the normalized coefficient of the general Weibull distribution function is employed to replace the normalized coefficient of the random variable following a Gamma distribution, and the approximate closed form solution is obtained. The effects of equation parameters on the algorithm performance are evaluated through simulation analysis under various conditions, and the performance of this algorithm is compared to those of the Newton iterative algorithm and other existing approximate analytical algorithms. The proposed algorithm exhibits good approximation performance under appropriate parameter settings. Finally, the performance of this method is evaluated by calculating the thresholds of space-time block coding and space-frequency block coding pattern recognition in multiple-input and multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing. The analytical approximation method can be applied to other related situations involving the maximum statistics of independent and identically distributed random variables following Gamma distributions.

  • In this paper, the numerical inverse kinematics analysis is presented for a collaborative robot with an offset wrist. Robot manipulators with offset wrist are widely used in industrial applications, due to many advantages over those with wrist center and those with three parallel axes such as simple mechanical design, light weight, and so on. There may not exist a closed-form solution for a robot manipulator with offset wrist. A simple numerical method is applied to solve the inverse kinematics with offset wrist. Singularity is analyzed using Jacobian matrix and the numerical inverse kinematics algorithm is implemented on the real-time controller.

  • An inverse boundary analysis of surface radiation in an axisymmetric cylindrical enclosure has been conducted in this study. Net energy exchange method was used to calculate the radiative heat flux on each surface, and a hybrid genetic algorithm was adopted to minimize an objective function, which is expressed by sum of square errors between estimated and measured or desired heat fluxes on the design surface. We have examined the effects of the measurement error as well as the number of measurement points on the estimation accuracy. Furthermore, the effect of a variation in one boundary condition on the other boundary conditions was also investigated to get the same desired heat flux and temperature distribution on the design surface.

  • In this paper, the nonlinear damping force model is made to identify the properties of the ER damper using higher order spectrum. The higher order spectral analysis is used to investigate the nonlinear frequency coupling phenomena with the damping force signal according to the sinusoidal excitation of the damper. Also, this paper presents an inverse model of the ER damper, i.e., the model can predict the required voltage so that the ER damper can produce the desired force for the requirement of vibration control of vehicle suspension systems. The inverse model has been constructed by using piecewise linear damping force model. In this paper, the fuzzy logic control based on heuristic knowledge is combined with the skyhook control. And it is simulated for a quarter car model. The acceleration of the sprung mass is included in the premise part of the fuzzy rules to reduce the vertical acceleration RMS value of the sprung mass. Then scaling factors and membership functions are tuned using genetic algorithm to obtain optimal performance.
