In recent years the recording density of hard disk has been increasing largely due to the decreasing flying height of head. However, as the flying height is decreased the reliability issue becomes ever more critical. This is because the reliability and durability of hard disk is related to the head/disk interaction as the two components come into partial or full contact. In this work characteristics of friction and stiction in head/disk interface was investigated using constant speed drag test and CSS(contact-start-stop) test. The purpose of this research is to identify the frictional properties of head/disk interface
This investigation concerns thermal stratification of the water due to the temperature difference (${\Delta}T=T_{\infty}-T_i$) between the mean temperature of the water in the test tank (1m wide, 1m high, 2.1m long) and the temperature of the inflow water into the tank; flow rate of circulating water and height of the sink diffuser in the test tank. The additional objectives was to observe a stratification phenomena near an interface by measuring the velosities and the temperature difference and investigate an availabilities of the better effective hot water through establishing thermocline near an interface around the bottom of the tank. Following results were obtained through the experiments. 1. When the flow rate was constant and the temperature difference (${\Delta}T=T_{\infty}-T_i$) between the mean temperature of the flow in the test tank and the temperature of the inflow water increased by 5.6, 9.5, 13.5($^{\circ}C$), obtained the better effective advantage of hot water and the stress near an interface increased gradually. 2. When the ${\Delta}T=T_{\infty}-T_i$ was constant and flow rate increased by 4.0, 4.8, 6.4, 8.0 (LPM), obtained the better effective advent age of hot water and the mean stress near an interface increased gradually. 3. When the height of the sink diffuser was 25cm from tank bottom in comparison with 50cm, obtained the better effective advantage of hot water and the mean stress near an interface increased.
Variations of the leakage current behaviors and interface potential barrier $({\Phi}_B)$ of rf-sputter deposited (Ba, Sr)$TiO_3$ (BST) thin films with thicknesses ranging from 20 nm to 150nm are investigated as a function of the thickness and bias voltages. The top and bottom electrodes are dc-sputter-deposited Pt films. ${\Phi}_B$ critically depends on the BST film deposition temperature, postannealing atmosphere and time after the annealing. The postannealing under $N_2$ atmosphere results in a high interface potential barrier height and low leakage current. Maintaining the BST capacitor in air for a long time reduces the ${\Phi}_B$ from about 2.4 eV to 1.6 eV due to the oxidation. ${\Phi}_B$ is not so dependent on the film thickness in this experimental range. The leakage conduction mechanism is very dependent on the BST film thickness; the 20 nm thick film shows tunneling current, 30 and 40 nm thick films show Shottky emission current.
Gravity thickening process has been widely used in WTP sludge thickening at domestic water treatment plant. The operation method of the process is very simple, however, the process requires long detention time about 24~48 hours for sludge thickening, uses polymer, and low total solids of thickened sludge to increase sludge thickening efficiency. To solve there problems, we studied about flotation process, especially, electro-flotation (EF) process in WTP sludge thickening. Electro-flotation process is simpler than dissolved-air-flotation(DAF) process because EF needs only electrode and current to generate micro-bubbles and the operation is easy. This study was performed at two batch columns to compare interface height, total solids, effluent turbidity between an electro-flotation thickening and a gravity thickening. According to the result, an electro-flotation thickening was that interface height was decreasing, total solids had high concentration, and effluent turbidity was low in comparison with a gravity thickening. Also, it will make the high efficiency of following process, such as a dehydrating process and digestive process. because of high total solids and low moisture content in the sludge.

Using capacitance-voltage (C-V) and conductance-voltage (G/ω-V) measurements, the electrical properties of Cu/n-InP Schottky diodes were investigated. The values of C and G/ω were found to decrease with increasing frequency. The presence of interface states might cause excess capacitance, leading to frequency dispersion. The negative capacitance was observed under a forward bias voltage, which may be due to contact injection, interface states or minority-carrier injection. The barrier heights from C-V measurements were found to depend on the frequency. In particular, the barrier height at 200 kHz was found to be 0.65 eV, which was similar to the flat band barrier height of 0.66 eV.
The objective of this research is to study the formations of smoke layer in case of several furniture fires such as trashcan, carpet, mattress and wardrobe as a fire starter in a residential room by performing the experimental studies. The uniformly distributed fire in case of carpet showed that the ignition and the initial growth period were relatively short while the fully developed period was considerably long. The concentrated fires such as the trashcan, mattress and wardrobe showed that the ignitions and the initial growth periods were relatively long. The descending speed of the interface height was proportioned to the inflammability of the furniture and the spread of the fire. The time required to come down around 1m was within 1-3 minutes. The Interface heights for the furniture fires were around 1m as the steady state. However, at the time of the maximum temperature, the interface height was lowered to 0.25m-0.75m from the floor. The carbon dioxide concentration reached the highest while the oxygen concentration was minimum.
An experiment of close contact melting of phase-change medium partially filled in an isothermally heated horizontal cylinder is performed which involves the volume expansion of liquid induced by the solid-liquid density difference. The solid-liquid interface motion and the free surface behavior of liquid were reported photographically. The experimental results show that the curvature of upper solid-liquid interface varied to flat as melting progresses. In addition to the varying interface shape, the melting rate increases with the lower initial height of solid and the free surface height of liquid increases linearly. The experimental results of molten mass fraction were expressed in a function of dimensionless time Fo.Ste$^{3}$4/ and agreed well with the analytical solutions.

Interface-trap density, lifetime and Schottky barrier height of erbium-silicided Schottky diode are evaluated using equivalent circuit method. The extracted interface trap density, lifetime and Schottky barrier height for hole are determined as $1.5{\times}10^{13} traps/cm^2$, 3.75 ms and 0.76 eV, respectively. The interface traps are efficiently cured by $N_2$ annealing. Based on the diode characteristics, various sizes of erbium- silicided/platinum-silicided n/p-type Schottky barrier metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistors (SB-MOSFETs) are manufactured from 20 m to 35nm. The manufactured SB-MOSFETs show excellent drain induced barrier lowering (DIBL) characteristics due to the existence of Schottky barrier between source and channel. DIBL and subthreshold swing characteristics are compatible with the ultimate scaling limit of double gate MOSFETs which shows the possible application of SB-MOSFETs in nanoscale regime.
In this paper, the wave run-up height and depression depth around air-water interface-piercing circular cylinder have been numerically studied. The Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS) and continuity equations are solved with Reynolds Stress model (RSM) and volume of fluid (VOF) method as turbulence model and free surface modeling, respectively. A commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software "Star-CCM+" has been used for the current simulations. Various Froude numbers ranged from 0.2 to 1.6 are used to investigate the change of air-water interface structures around the cylinder and experimental data and theoretical values by Bernoulli are compared. The present results showed a good agreement with other studies. Kelvin waves behind the cylinder were generated and its wave lengths are longer as Froude numbers increase and they have good agreement with theoretical values. And its angles are smaller with the increase of Froude numbers.
This paper described a novel locomotion interface that can generate infinite floor for various surface, named as virtual walking machine. This interface allows users to participate in a life-like walking experience in virtual environments, which include various terrains such as plains, slopes and stair ground surfaces. The interface is composed of two three-DOF (X, Y, Yaw) planar devices and two four-DOF (Pitch, Roll, Z, and relative rotation) footpads. The planar devices are driven by AC servomotors for generating fast motions, while the footpad devices are driven by pneumatic actuators for continuous support of human weight. To simulate natural human walking, the locomotion interface design specification are acquired based on gait analysis and each mechanism is optimally designed and manufactured to satisfy the given requirements. The designed locomotion interface allows natural walking(step: 0.8m, height: 20cm, load capability: 100kg, slope:30deg) for various terrains.
