Matroid와 Graph에 대하여

  • Matroid theory, which was first introduced in 1935 by Whitney (2), is a branch of combinational mathematics which has some very much to the fore in the last few years. H. Whitney had just spent several years working in the field of graph theory, and had noticed several similarities between the ideas of independence and rank in graph theory and those of linear independence and dimension in the study of vector spaces. A matroid is essentially a set with some kind of 'independence structure' defined on it. There are several known results concerning how matroids can be induced from given matroid by a digraph. The purpose of this note is to show that, given a matroid M$_{0}$ (N) and a digraph $\Gamma$(N), then a new matroid M(N) is induced, where A⊆N is independent in M(N) if and only if A is the set of initial vertices of a family of pairwise-vertex-disjoint paths with terminal vertices independent in M$_{0}$ (N).(N).

An Optimal Distinction of Reflexives and Logophors

  • In thihs paper, I investigate the different usage of a reflexive-anaphor or logophor. Some African languages which have a morphologically independent set of logophors give a clue to this dichotomy. English which does not have morphologically independent logophors employs a reflexive-self form to be used as a logophor. However, the logophors in English occur in restricted environments. On the other hand, Korean is freer than English in that it allows areflexive to be interchanged with a logophor. With this assumption, I deal with the binding in Optimality Theory. I set up the constraints-MAXlog,ana,MINlog,ana, and Ølog,ana. With these constraints, the binding in various languages are explained through constraint ranking. In addition, the long-distance binding in English is dealt with properly of we assume the dichotomy and constraint-ranking in Optimality Theory. Furthermore, this gives an explanation to reflexive and pronoun alternation in English. Also, I borrow from phonology the idea of Obligatory Contour Principle to explain the similar phenomenon in syntax. I compare English with Korean in dealing with the possessive reflexive with the recourse to The Emergence of the Unmarked Pronoun Bresnan 1997. Fnmally, the reconstruction phenomenon is accounted for with the same device.

PCA vs. ICA for Face Recognition

  • The information-theoretic approach to face recognition is based on the compact coding where face images are decomposed into a small set of basis images. Most popular method for the compact coding may be the principal component analysis (PCA) which eigenface methods are based on. PCA based methods exploit only second-order statistical structure of the data, so higher- order statistical dependencies among pixels are not considered. Independent component analysis (ICA) is a signal processing technique whose goal is to express a set of random variables as linear combinations of statistically independent component variables. ICA exploits high-order statistical structure of the data that contains important information. In this paper we employ the ICA for the efficient feature extraction from face images and show that ICA outperforms the PCA in the task of face recognition. Experimental results using a simple nearest classifier and multi layer perceptron (MLP) are presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed method.

독립변수의 차원감소에 의한 Polynomial Adaline의 성능개선 (Performance Improvement of Polynomial Adaline by Using Dimension Reduction of Independent Variables)

  • This paper proposes an efficient method for improving the performance of polynomial adaline using the dimension reduction of independent variables. The adaptive principal component analysis is applied for reducing the dimension by extracting efficiently the features of the given independent variables. It can be solved the problems due to high dimensional input data in the polynomial adaline that the principal component analysis converts input data into set of statistically independent features. The proposed polynomial adaline has been applied to classify the patterns. The simulation results shows that the proposed polynomial adaline has better performances of the classification for test patterns, in comparison with those using the conventional polynomial adaline. Also, it is affected less by the scope of the smoothing factor.

  • Independent component analysis (ICA) is a statistical method for linearly transforming observed high-dimensional multivariate data into several statistically independent components. ICA has gained wide-spread attention in a variety of fields including spectrum application. We focus on the application of ICA for separating independent sources from a set of mixtures and estimating their fractions in a mixture. The proposed method of estimating fractions is based on the regression model subject to the non-negativity constraint on coefficients. Simulation experiments are performed to demonstrate the performance of the proposed approach.

독립성분분석을 이용한 강인한 음성인식 (Robust Speech Recognition Using Independent Component Analysis)

  • 기존 음성 인식의 실세계 적용에서 큰 문제점은 잡음이다. 본 논문에서는 잡음이 섞인 음성 신호로부터 잡음 성분을 분리해 내는 방법을 제안한다. 이 방법은 잡음이 섞인 음성 신호에 독립성분분석(ICA:Independent Component Analysis)을 사용한 암묵신호 분리(blind source separation)를 적용하여 잡음 성분을 제거하게 된다. 잡음이 혼합된 음성 신호에 독립성분분석을 전처리(preprocessing) 과정에 이용함으로써 인식성능을 향상시킬 수 있다. 깨끗한 음성 신호에 음악과 거리잡음을 섞었을 경우 인식률이 잡음 없는 음성의 인식률보다 각각 최대 14.98%, 13.78%까지 저하되었다. 그러나 독립성분분석으로 복원된 음성의 경우 잡음 없는 음성의 인식률 수준(각각 97.39%, 96.49%)으로 나타났으며, 독립성분분석을 이용한 음성의 잡음 제거가 인식률 향상에 좋은 결과를 가져옴을 확인 할 수 있다.

  • In the advance of computer technology, it is possible to keep all the related informations for monitoring equipments in control and huge amount of real time manufacturing data in a data base. Thus, the statistical analysis of large data sets with hundreds of thousands observations and hundred of independent variables whose some of values are missing at many observations is needed even though it is a formidable computational task. A tree structured approach to classification is capable of screening important independent variables and their interactions. In a Six Sigma project handling large amount of manufacturing data, one of the goals is to screen vital few variables among trivial many variables. In this paper we have reviewed and summarized CART, C4.5 and CHAID algorithms and proposed a simple method of screening vital few variables by selecting common variables screened by all the three algorithms. Also how to develop a logistics regression model on a large data set is discussed and illustrated through a large finance data set collected by a credit bureau for th purpose of predicting the bankruptcy of the company.

  • In this paper we study the Minimum Error Discrimination problem (MED) for ensembles of linearly independent (LI) pure states. By constructing a map from the set on those ensembles we show that the Pretty Good Measurement (PGM) and the optimal measurement for the MED are related by the map.

  • A set of conditions ensuring local asymptotic normality for independent but not necessarily identically distributed observations in semiparametric models is presented here. The conditions are turned out to be more direct and easier to verify than those of Oosterhoff and van Zwet(1979) in semiparametric models. Examples considered include the simple linear regression model and Cox's proportional hazards model without censoring where the covariates are not random.

  • In this paper, we have presented rough ideal statistical convergence of sequence on neutrosophic normed spaces as a significant convergence criterion. As neutrosophication can handle partially dependent components, partially independent components and even independent components involved in real-world problems. By examining some properties related to rough ideal convergence in these spaces we have established some equivalent conditions on the set of ideal statistical limit points for rough ideal statistically convergent sequences.
