  • An $n{\times}n$ matrix A over a commutative ring is strongly clean provided that it can be written as the sum of an idempotent matrix and an invertible matrix that commute. Let R be an arbitrary commutative ring, and let $A(x){\in}M_n(R[[x]])$. We prove, in this note, that $A(x){\in}M_n(R[[x]])$ is strongly clean if and only if $A(0){\in}M_n(R)$ is strongly clean. Strongly clean matrices over quotient rings of power series are also determined.

  • Consider the problem of estimating a $p{\times}1$ mean vector ${\theta}(p-r{\geq}3)$, r = rank(K) with a projection matrix K under the quadratic loss, based on a sample $Y_1$, $Y_2$, ${\cdots}$, $Y_n$. In this paper a James-Stein type estimator with shrinkage form is given when it's variance distribution is specified and when the norm ${\parallel}{\theta}-K{\theta}{\parallel}$ is constrain, where K is an idempotent and symmetric matrix and rank(K) = r. It is characterized a minimal complete class of James-Stein type estimators in this case. And the subclass of James-Stein type estimators that dominate the sample mean is derived.

  • In this article we look at the property of a 2 by 2 full matrix ring over the ring of integers, of being weakly right IQNN. This generalisation of the property of being right IQNN arises from products of idempotents and nilpotents. We shown that it is, indeed, a proper generalization of right IQNN. We consider the property of beign weakly right IQNN in relation to several kinds of factorizations of a free algebra in two indeterminates over the ring of integers modulo 2.

  • We classify linear maps which preserve idempotents on $n{\times}n$ matrices over some classes of semirings. Our results include many known semirings like the semiring of all nonnegative integers, the semiring of all nonnegative reals, any unital commutative ring, which is zero divisor free and of characteristic not two (not necessarily a principal ideal domain), and the ring of integers modulo m, where m is a product of distinct odd primes.

  • We in this note consider a generalized ring theoretic property of quasi-commutative rings in relation with powers. We will use the terminology of weakly left quasi-commutative for the class of rings satisfying such property. The properties and examples are basically investigated in the procedure of studying idempotents and nilpotent elements.

  • Let R be a ring with identity and P(R) denote the prime radical of R. An element r of a ring R is called strongly P-clean, if there exists an idempotent e such that $r-e=p{\in}P$(R) with ep = pe. In this paper, we determine necessary and sufficient conditions for an element of a trivial Morita context to be strongly P-clean.

  • An associative ring R with identity is called a clean ring if every element of R is the sum of a unit and an idempotent. In this paper, we introduce the concept of f-clean rings. We study various properties of f-clean rings. Let C = $\(\array{A\;V\\W\;B}\)$ be a Morita Context ring. We determine conditions under which the ring C is f-clean. Moreover, we introduce the concept of rings having many full elements. We investigate characterizations of this kind of rings and show that rings having many full elements are closed under matrix rings and Morita Context rings.

  • Consider the problem of estimating a $p{\times}1$ mean vector ${\theta}(p-q{\geq}3)$, $q=rank(P_V)$ with a projection matrix $P_v$ under the quadratic loss, based on a sample $X_1$, $X_2$, ${\cdots}$, $X_n$. We find a James-Stein type decision rule which shrinks towards projection vector when the underlying distribution is that of a variance mixture of normals and when the norm ${\parallel}{\theta}-P_V{\theta}{\parallel}$ is restricted to a known interval, where $P_V$ is an idempotent and projection matrix and rank $(P_V)=q$. In this case, we characterize a minimal complete class within the class of James-Stein type decision rules. We also characterize the subclass of James-Stein type decision rules that dominate the sample mean.

  • We study the structure of rings whose factor rings modulo nonzero proper ideals are right duo; such rings are called right FD. We first see that this new ring property is not left-right symmetric. We prove for a non-prime right FD ring R that R is a subdirect product of subdirectly irreducible right FD rings; and that R/N∗(R) is a subdirect product of right duo domains, and R/J(R) is a subdirect product of division rings, where N∗(R) (J(R)) is the prime (Jacobson) radical of R. We study the relation among right FD rings, division rings, commutative rings, right duo rings and simple rings, in relation to matrix rings, polynomial rings and direct products. We prove that if a ring R is right FD and 0 ≠ e2 = e ∈ R then eRe is also right FD, examining that the class of right FD rings is not closed under subrings.

  • Suppose F is a field of characteristic not 2 and $F\;{\neq}\;Z_3$. Let $M_n(F)$ be the linear space of all $n{\times}n$ matrices over F, and let ${\Gamma}_n(F)$ be the subset of $M_n(F)$ consisting of all $n{\times}n$ involutory matrices. We denote by ${\Phi}_n(F)$ the set of all maps from $M_n(F)$ to itself satisfying A - ${\lambda}B{\in}{\Gamma}_n(F)$ if and only if ${\phi}(A)$ - ${\lambda}{\phi}(B){\in}{\Gamma}_n(F)$ for every A, $B{\in}M_n(F)$ and ${\lambda}{\in}F$. It was showed that ${\phi}{\in}{\Phi}_n(F)$ if and only if there exist an invertible matrix $P{\in}M_n(F)$ and an involutory element ${\varepsilon}$ such that either ${\phi}(A)={\varepsilon}PAP^{-1}$ for every $A{\in}M_n(F)$ or ${\phi}(A)={\varepsilon}PA^{T}P^{-1}$ for every $A{\in}M_n(F)$. As an application, the maps preserving inverses of matrces also are characterized.
