A Study on Correlation Analysis of Information Subject and Convergence Subject for the Gifted Children in IT (정보영재의 정보과목과 융합과목의 상관관계 분석연구)

  • In the knowledge-based society, IT literacy and application of a person become a measure of personal competitiveness. As IT industry is of great important nationally, many countries are trying to make an effort to promote IT industry. In this sense, identification and fostering of the gifted children in IT become an important national task since, in IT industry, usually only a few prodigies have led whole IT industry. Currently gifted education aims for convergent gifted education according to government policy. The purpose of this paper is to investigate correlation of information subject and convergent subject for the gifted children in IT. For this purpose, the gifted children in IT who attended a gifted science education center attached to a university at Seoul Metropolitan Area are selected. Their grades during their the period of attendance are collected and analysed. The statistical results show that there is a meaningful correlation between information subject and convergent subject for the gifted children in IT. It means that the higher scores information subject is, the higher scores convergent subject is. The results can be used to make or change gifted curriculum and education contents for gifted IT education.

  • In the present knowledge and information society, knowledge and use of information and communication technology(ICT) is very important for every citizen. Also, for national power of a nation, IT-related industries need to be supported since those industries can be reconstructed in a short period of time unlike other industries. In this sense, identification and education of gifted children in IT become a serious national issue. Since 2013, gifted education has been conducted as a form of convergent education by government policy. However, there have been controversies on convergent education for gifted education. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the usefulness of convergent curriculum for gifted education in IT. For this purpose, gifted children in IT in a gifted education center are analyzed. By comparing the entrance ranking and graduation ranking, it is concluded that the current convergent gifted curriculum may not be efficient.

  • This research studies the perception to gifted education teachers between the middle school gifted education for STEAM and Convergence Gifted Education for revitalizing Convergence Gifted Education. The conclusions according to the analysis, it shows that the awareness of gifted education teachers for Convergence Gifted Education is lower than the level of the awareness for STEAM, and it appears that the Gifted education teachers especially has the experience adapting Convergence Gifted Education who awareness for Convergence Gifted Education is the highest. On the other hand, not only teachers has the experience adapting Convergence Gifted Education and the very poorly recognition for the task of Comprehensive Plan for Gifted Education promotion including the development of an creative and convergence content, a they has the very low experience for the development. And it analyzes that although there is no meaningful differences, teachers who are in science gifted teachers and the mature experienced man realizes very optimistically the necessity need of Convergence Gifted Education. Therefore, it analyzes that recognition to the necessity need of Convergence Gifted Education is reinforced through the training for the gifted teachers in the mathematics gifted education and in less teaching experience. But it points out that answers over the majority cognized to resemble the Convergence Gifted Education and STEAM, though the object is only different. Furthermore, it suggests that the differentiated Convergence Gifted Education curriculum providing the suitableness for the characteristic and level is needed for the desirable fixedness.

  • Currently gifted education aims for convergent gifted education according to government policy. The purpose of this paper is to investigate correlation of information subject and science subject(physics, chemistry, biology, and geology) for the gifted children in IT. For this purpose, the gifted children in IT who attended a gifted science education center attached to a university at Seoul Metropolitan Area are selected. It means that the higher scores information subject is, the higher scores biology subject is.   • Related with the mathematics gifted children the situation of different case studies is the research which is limited in mathematics problem solving process of the most mathematics gifted children. The research which it sees hereupon observes from the scope which is wider the quality of the mathematics gifted children, before the hazard mathematics gifted children whom it sees enter into the mathematics gifted children education center unit life and life after studying living and dismissal of a class from the general school, namely for their general life it leads compared to attitude it observes the reporter it does a quality. For a what kind of interest in the mathematics gifted children, the research leads the family or general class, from the gifted children education center it has it considers encouragement, map and to give a help to good mathematics gifted children education activation, it does. It will reach and to respect with afterwards it set a same three research problem. First, before entering into the mathematics gifted children education center, are the mathematics gifted children what kind of quality? Second, Are the mathematics gifted children what kind of quality for general school hour? Third, Are the mathematics gifted children what kind of quality after dismissal of a class after hour? Being selected in the hazard gifted children education center which solves an up research problem, simple characteristic and approach ease characteristic, by the condition of the permission possibility back it selected 2 person gifted children school boxes which are coming and going. And, before entering into these mathematics gifted children education center, studying life from the general school, life after dismissal of a class it will extend at 1 years, various recording it will ask and it collected direct observation and interview it led against their quality it analyzed. It shared the result which it analyzes with emotional quality, studying conduct qualities, general qualities of the mathematics gifted children and qualities of mathematics gifted children parents. Studies level of the mathematics gifted children parents high facility when them are young from, the interest and helping out which it has were considerable, to advance with the direction where in order for always with great disaster them are proper the map it did. In general quality of the mathematics gifted children from young age the ability which finds a language and a possibility concept superiorly the ability which expresses the thought of oneself logically was superior, the competitive spirit was high, it liked it came reading, a leader role, to reveal a deepening school with the fact that it comes and goes. Also it will burn with their studying conduct quality and it will roll and it did deeply and it arranged knot eagerly, accomplishing which is superior from the field which is various it showed, the originality was superior, the subject attachment power was high quite, oneself it studies it has a devotion the possibility of knowing it was. And, the social characteristic of the friends and is good with their emotional quality and it does there is own reflection and an encouragement at any time and also a confidence, but just as good as the stress also it receives the possibility of knowing it was to him.

A Study of Pre-service Elementary Teacher's Belief on Science Gifted Education (초등예비교사들의 과학영재교육에 대한 신념 연구)

  • The purpose of this work is to investigate pre-service elementary teachers' belief in science gifted education. To do that, from September to November 2012, this research had been conducted with 42 students who were in the third year of P University of Education. The conclusions of this work are presented as follows: First, the pre-service elementary teachers considered exploration ability to be the most important talent for the gifted students in science, and chose task commitment as the next most important. They regarded intelligent ability and leadership ability as the relatively less important. Secondly, regarding the most important tool in choosing scientifically gifted students, the pre-service elementary teachers preferred creativity test. It was found that they considered the intelligence test and academic achievements, which require intelligent ability, to be the less important. Thirdly, regarding the special knowledge related to science gifted education, the pre-service elementary teachers considered pedagogical knowledge about the gifted to be the most important. Fourthly, regarding a class type for gifted students in science, the pre-service elementary teachers most preferred project learning. Project learning is a learning method in which students choose an interesting problem and solve the problem in cooperation with group members. It is the most widely used exploration class in gifted education. It is in the same context as the result that exploration ability is the most important factor to elementary gifted students in science. This work revealed that, with regard to a talent for the gifted in science, judgment of the gifted in science and science gifted education, the potential ability and affective ability of gifted students are considered to be more important than their intelligent ability. Therefore, it was analyzed that pre-service elementary teachers' belief in the gifted students in science is almost consistent with the recent trend of gifted education.

Scientifically Gifted Students' Conceptions of Nature of Science

  • The purpose of this study is to assess gifted students' conceptions about nature of science (NOS). Scientifically gifted students who are expected to be professionals in the future should possess an adequate understanding of NOS that if firm foundation for scientific career. 47 volunteers from the 8th grade gifted science program in Seoul National University Gifted Education Center participated to answer questions inquiring NOS conceptions. Their answers were analyzed and compared to different groups such as non-gifted students and younger gifted students. As a result, gifted students' understanding of NOS appeared to surpass that of non-gifted students in many aspects and it seemed that gifted students formed their NOS view in early ages. The relative weakness in their NOS conceptions was found in understanding of scientific enterprise. Their strong misunderstanding about obstacles that minority people would face in scientific enterprise was noticed, too. They admitted that there has been discrimination in scientific enterprise, but they wrongly believed that outstanding scientists cannot be affected by it. Further studies will be required to probe more.

A Study on Teachers' Perceptions of the National Standards Gifted Education Program (국가표준 영재교육 프로그램 기준 개발에 대한 영재교사들의 인식)

  • The gifted Education has been grown up a lot although it has several problems in terms of the quality of the gifted education programs after legislated the Promotion of Education for the Gifted and Talented Law during the last ten-year period. So the purpose of this study was to investigate teachers' perceptions of the national standards gifted education program and the problems in managing of the gifted education program. The conclusions according to the analysis are as follows. First, it has analyzed that gifted teachers recognize the lack of teaching and learning materials, regional level difference of the gifted children, Redundancy of program in the grade and school levels in managing of the gifted education as the problems. Second, it was found that perception of most gifted teachers about necessity of the National Standards Gifted Education Program development was very positive. Also, it has shown that gifted teachers expect the education with the overlapped contents and teaching methods would be managed differently, the difficulty of the topic selection could be resolved, and the quality of the gifted education by the programs development of various aspects would be increased. Especially, gifted teachers expect that the problem from the lack of gifted education continuity of school levels could be resolved by development of the National Standards Gifted Education Program. Therefore, for the improving quality of gifted education with resolving the problem from the Contents Redundancy and the lack of gifted education continuity of school levels, the national standards gifted education program should be studied developed as soon as possible.

A Study on Correlation Analysis of Programming Ability and Logical Thinking Ability for the Gifted Children in IT (정보영재아동의 프로그래밍 능력과 논리적 사고능력 상관관계 분석 연구)

  • In current knowledge-based society, national competitiveness and growth of society depend on advances in information and communication technologies considerably. In order to grow advances in information and communication technologies, it is essential to identify and foster gifted children in IT as early as possible. In gifted education in IT, enhancing programming ability and logical thinking ability is very important and is also a part of objectives of gifted education in IT. The purpose of this paper is to identify correlation of programming ability and logical thinking ability for the gifted children in IT. For this purpose, gifted children from a gifted institution at Seoul are selected and their test scores during the period of attendance at institution are analyzed. Also, for extensive analysis, the test scores had been collected for 6 years. Based on thorough statistical analysis, the conclusion is that programming ability and logical thinking ability highly correlate each other. This conclusion can be used to decide and affect a selection examination, curriculum, and selection of an exemplary programming language for gifted education in IT.

  • In current knowledge-based society, development and growth of IT-related industry is essential for a nation's competitiveness since it's economic power depends on IT industry in many countries. A success of IT industry depends on a few IT geniuses like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Thus, it is necessary to identify and foster gifted children in IT as early as possible. The purpose of this paper is to identify the correlation of academic performance per subject for the gifted children in IT. The analysis is focused on three subjects, that is, Information, Science, and Mathematics, respectively. For this purpose, the gifted children are selected and analyzed in a gifted science education center attached in a university at Seoul Metropolitan Area. The analysis results show that there is meaningful correlation among three subjects. That is, if high scores in a subject means high scores in other subjects. For instance, a gifted child with high scores in Information got high scores in Science and Mathematics. The result will be useful to improve selection examinations and curriculum for gifted education in IT, for inclusive education and convergent education.
