  • Constructivism gave many implications to science education but at the same time it has brought confusion about its implication to the field of science education. Hermeneutics has possibilities of being able to reduce confusion as well as opening a new horizon. Hermeneutics seeks the meaning of 'real understanding' through the concepts of horizon, hermeneutical circle, and fusion of horizons. Both hermeneutics and constructivism have positive attitude to students' pre-understanding and accept contextualization of knowledge. Thus, they both can criticize traditional teaching method and propose an alternative. Moreover, hermeneutics approaches human understanding holistically with the concept of horizon, and pays attention to the circularity of the process of human understanding. As a result, hermeneutics can open a new horizon and give new discourse to science education and contribute to the development of research and practice of science education.

  • It is time to put our top priority on the computer education to cope with rapid chage in technology and expansion of information. With 6th educational reform plan, from 1995 computer courses will be offered as elective subjects in the most of middle schools. However, detail planning for training of computer courses will be offered as elective subjects in the most of middle schools. However, detail planning for training of computer teachers and providing facilicles for computer education hasn't been adequately prepared yet, This will bring about confusion in computer education. The purpose of this study is to propose how to renovate the ordinary classroom into computer classroom. Followings are the suggestions for the educational specification for the renovated computer classroom for middle school in the urban area. 1) Purpose of computer classroom, 2) Size of computer classroom, 3) Curriculum design and class hour, 4) Facilities, 5) Environments, 6) Equipment and media(lighting and electric system, acoustical treatment, cooling/heating and ventilation system), 7) Activity area(Teacher workstation, Student workstation, Support area, Display surface). For the promotion of computer education, the legal, financial and administrative supports by concerned authorities should be established ahead of discussing the contents of computer education.

  • Some confusion in the terminology concerning the weld quality and its assurance seems caused by the different practises currently in use around the world. Qualified welding personnel are not automatically certified personnel. Education and training are the tools to obtain qualification. Flexibility in training and education seems logical and the most cost-effective way to obtain qualified personnel. A third party seems essential for issuing recognised Certificates. Manufacturers of welded products continue to face increased demands and concerns regarding weld quality. The following are the main conditions influencing weld quality: $\bigcirc$ Establishing reliable productions procedures and tests that meet the requirements of established codes and standards. $\bigcirc$ Finding qualified welding personnel capable of reliably carrying out established welding procedures. The issue of hiring and keeping skilled welding personnel has been a crucial consideration for manufacturers worldwide for the past few decades. It will continue to be a concern for decades to come.

  • Grammar has long been regarded as an important element in foreign language learning and has received a lot of attention from foreign language learners and researchers. However, in the process of learning, learners will confront an increasing number of words some of which may have multiple meanings. It is not easy for language learners to memorize and master the correct use of these words, especially in terms of pragmatics. Some learners may use the grammar correctly, but their writing or utterance may feel unnatural in discourse. In Korean, '나다, 들다' are two basic verbs, but they have many different meanings which cause a lot of confusion among learners of Korean as a foreign language. In this article, the writer attempts to make a distinction between the collocations of the two verbs '나다, 들다' and provides an effective method for teaching the learners of Korean in China.

  • There have been great concerns on induction, deduction, abduction, and hypothetical deductive method as scientific method and logic behind the method. However, as seen from the similar logic structure of abduction and hypothetical deductive method logic, distinction of those four terms could be unclear. This study investigates statements of science instruction textbooks concerning those terms to analyze their meaning as scientific method or in the context of inquiry. For this purpose, related statements are extracted from seven textbooks to investigate the definitions and examples of those terms and relation among these terms by focusing on coherence of usage of the terms and the possibility of clear distinction among the terms. We find that those terms do not have coherent meanings in the textbooks and many statements make it hard to distinguish the meanings of the terms. Finally the origin of the confusion and educational implication is discussed.

  • Since mathematical concepts are learned through the meaning of mathematical terms in school mathematics, learners must understand and use mathematical terms appropriately. However, the meaning of mathematical terms used in real life may be perceived differently from elementary mathematics textbooks, and this difference may cause confusion in learners' understanding of mathematical terms. Therefore, this study was intended to compare and analyze the mathematical terms in elementary mathematics textbooks used in Korea and a Korean dictionary. The findings revealed that the meaning of the textbooks was similar or different, and the subject indicated by each meaning was different. In this case, in order to prevent confusion among learners, it is necessary to supplement and guide each meaning by recognizing the difference between the mathematical terms in elementary mathematics textbooks used in Korea and a Korean dictionary.

  • Algebra deals with so general properties about number system that it is called as 'generalized arithmetic'. Observing students' activities in algebra classes, however, we can discover that recognition of the generality in algebraic proofs is not so easy. One of these difficulties seems to be caused by variables which play an important role in algebraic proofs. Many studies show that students have experienced some difficulties in recognizing the meaning and the role of variables in algebraic proofs. For example, the confusion between 2m+2n=2(m+n) and 2n+2n=4n means that students misunderstand independent/dependent variation of variables. This misunderstanding naturally has effects on understanding of the meaning of proofs. Furthermore, students also have a difficulty in making a transition from algebraic proof to numerical cases which have the same structure as the proof. This study investigates whether middle school students can recognize dependent generality and make a transition from proofs to numerical cases. The result shows that the participants of this study have a difficulty in both of them. Based on the result, this study also includes didactical implications for teaching the generality of algebraic proofs.

  • Since open inquiry of science was formally introduced at the 2007 Revised Science Curriculum Course, the purpose and effect of it has been positively evaluated, and it is underlined continuously until the revised science education course in 2015. However, through many previous studies, there is still a lack of awareness of open inquiry of both students and teachers in the field, and it was revealed they are continually appealing confusion and difficulties. Therefore, in this research, we analyzed the causes that make it difficult to execute open inquiry, and developed differentiated open inquiry guide materials that can contribute to the realization of teachers and students. They were developed by the brain-based evolutionary approach to provide students with authentic science. The brain-based evolutionary approach is reflecting the evolutionary attributes and the brain functions associated activities of scientists. It was revealed that, in the same way as the pilot test results, the usefulness of the differentiated guide materials were very high, and there was a statistically significant difference in the science attitude. It was found that the application of the brain-based evolutionary approach had positively influenced the stage of determining the inquiry themes, and self-confidence that could be able to do as a scientist. Analysis of top and sub group types on the basis of inquiry ability showed that both groups are improved at science attitude by the differentiated guide materials. There was a positive effect on change in the self-perception of scientific creativity. We were able to see a positive change in the post survey for open inquiry-efficacy. The developed differentiated open inquiry guide materials contributed to the improvement of open inquiry-efficacy for both the teacher and student.

  • This paper deals with the geographical scope of the East Sea introduced by major domestic institutions. The East Sea surrounded by South Korea, North Korea, Russia, Japan has a variety of marine resources, and is the very appropriate natural laboratory to study future global changes as a miniature ocean. However, there is a continuous conflict between Korea and Japan over the name of the East Sea because of the nature of international waters. So we need the active research achievements based on the exact geographic knowledge of the East Sea to promote the legitimacy of the East Sea in the international community. Nevertheless each domestic institution has a different way to define the southern border of the East Sea so that it showed a difference about linear distance of up to about 44 km. Also, they have defined the scope of East Sea not as the entire East Sea surrounded by South Korea, North Korea, Russia and Japan but as the jurisdiction of the Republic of Korea. It caused serious confusion about accurate statistical knowledge about East Sea such as area, volume, and mean water depth. Therefore, clear social consensus about the geographical scope of the East Sea would be required, there is also the need to institutionalize a legal order to spread it.
