한국의 호주 청정 수소 수입을 위한 공급망의 경제성 및 환경영향 평가 (Economic and Environmental Impact Analyses on Supply Chains for Importing Clean Hydrogen from Australia in the Republic of Korea)

  • As global warming accelerates, clean hydrogen production becomes more important to mitigate it. However, importing hydrogen is necessary for countries that have high energy demands but insufficient resources to produce clean hydrogen. In line with the trend, this study investigated both the economic and environmental viability of an overseas hydrogen supply chain between Australia and the Republic of Korea. Several possible methods of water electrolysis and hydrogen carriers are compared and effect of renewable electricity price on the cost of hydrogen production is evaluated.

  • In the production of hydrogen from various sources like cracking of LPG, LNG, Crude oil, or alkaline water electrolysis, the things that we keep in mind is the entrapment of unexpected impurities in the stream of produced $H_2$. If it is true that we are not able to produce 100% pure $H_2$, then subsequent procedure is the elimination of the impurities and the determination of the concentrations of each constituents in $H_2$ stream. By the way, each country has different constituents in its fuels and unavoidablely it was cost/economy debates between coutries. Thus, in this paper, our goal is to provide current international issues for hydrogen production.

소형 수소액화기 설계 및 운전에 관한 연구 (Design and Operation of a Small-Scale Hydrogen Liquefier)

  • In order to accelerate hydrogen society in current big renewable energy trend, it is very important that hydrogen can be transported and stored as a fuel in efficient and economical fashion. In this perspective, liquid hydrogen can be considered as one of the most prospective storage methods that can bring early arrival of the hydrogen society by its high gravimetric energy density. In this study, a small-scale hydrogen liquefier has been designed and developed to demonstrate direct hydrogen liquefaction technology. Gifford-McMahon (GM) cryocooler was employed to cool warm hydrogen gas to normal boiling point of hydrogen at 20K. Various cryogenic insulation technologies such as double walled vacuum vessels and multi-layer insulation were used to minimize heat leak from ambient. A liquid nitrogen assisted precooler, two ortho-para hydrogen catalytic converters, and highly efficient heat pipe were adapted to achieve the target liquefaction rate of 1L/hr. The liquefier has successfully demonstrated more than 1L/hr of hydrogen liquefaction. The system also has demonstrated its versatile usage as a very efficient 150L liquid hydrogen storage tank.

H2/Air 비예혼합화염의 화염신장율에 따른 NO 생성경로의 상세해석 (Detailed Analysis of NO Formation Routes with Strain Rate in H2/Air Nonpremixed Flames)

  • Detailed analysis of NO formation routes and its contributions with strain rate in hydrogen/air flames were numerically investigated. LiG detailed reaction mechanism has been used for calculation, which is compared with experimental data in literature. It shows good agreement with experiment for both temperature and NO mole fraction. Three routes have been found important for NO formation in hydrogen flames. These are the Thermal route, NNH route and $N_2O$ route. Strain rate were varied to discuss the $EI_{NO}$ reduction trend in hydrogen nonpremixed flames, which are analyzed by each NO formation routes. As a result, as the strain rate increase, $EI_{NO}$ decrease sharply until strain rate $100s^{-1}$ and decrease slowly until strain rate $310s^{-1}$ again, after that $EI_{NO}$ keeps nearly constant. It can be identified that $EI_{NO}$ trend with the strain rate is well explained by a combination of variation of production rate of above Thermal, NNH and $N_2O$ route. Also result of Thermal-Mech. that includes only thermal NO reaction is compared with those of Full-Mech. As a result, It can be identified that there was difference between the two results of calculation. It is attributed to result that Thermal-mech did not consider contributions of NNH and $N_2O$ route. From these result, we can conclude that NOx emission characteristics of hydrogen nonpremixed flames should consider contributions of above three routes simultaneously.

연료전지 무인항공기의 고도와 체공시간에 대한 특성 분석 및 최신 연구동향 (Research Trend and Analysis of Altitude and Endurance for Fuel Cell Unmanned Aerial Vehicles)

  • Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been applied to not only military missions like surveillance and reconnaissance but also commercial missions like meteorological observation, aerial photograph, communication relay, internet network build and disaster observation. Fuel cells make UAVs eco-friendly by using hydrogen. Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) show low operation temperature, high efficiency, low noise and high energy density and those characterisitcs are well fitted with UAVs. Thus Fuel cell based UAVs have been actively developed in the world. Recently, fuel cell UAVs have started to develope for high altitude UAVs because target altitude of UAVs is expanded upto stratosphere altitude. Long endurance of UAVs is essential to improve effects of the missions. Improvement of UAV endurance time could be fulfilled by developing a hydrogen fuel storage system with high energy density and reducing the weight of UAVs. In this paper, research trend and analysis of fuel cell UAVs are introduced in terms of their altitude and endurance time and then the prospect of fuel cell UAVs are shown.

특허 분석에 의한 가스 하이드레이트 제조 기술 동향 (Technology Trend for Gas Hydrate Production Method by the Patent Analysis)

  • There are several methods for the gas hydrate production such as spraying water with countercurrent gas flow, stirring water-gas mixture, and flowing water with micro-bubble, etc. These days it has been widely studied for the gas hydrate production method, having low energy consumption and high efficiency. In this paper, patents in the gas hydrate production method were gathered and analyzed. The search range was limited to the open patents of USA, European Union (EP), Japan (JP), and Korea (KR) from 1991 to 2007. Patents were gathered by using keywords searching and filtered by crucial criteria. The trends of the patents were analyzed by the years, countries, companies, and technologies.

  • Recently, renewable power is rapidly increasing globally due to extensive effort to mitigate climate change and conventional power generation industry faces new challenges. The gas turbine technology has potentials to expand its role in future power generation based on the intrinsic characteristics such as fuel diversity and fast load following ability. Hydrogen is one of the most promising fuel in terms of reducing emissions and storing variable renewable energy and replacing hydrocarbon fuel with hydrogen has become very popular. Therefore, this paper presents the core technologies to combust hydrogen added fuel efficiently in gas turbines and the analysis of domestic and international R&D trends.

PREDICTION OF HYDROGEN CONCENTRATION IN CONTAINMENT DURING SEVERE ACCIDENTS USING FUZZY NEURAL NETWORK

  • Recently, severe accidents in nuclear power plants (NPPs) have become a global concern. The aim of this paper is to predict the hydrogen buildup within containment resulting from severe accidents. The prediction was based on NPPs of an optimized power reactor 1,000. The increase in the hydrogen concentration in severe accidents is one of the major factors that threaten the integrity of the containment. A method using a fuzzy neural network (FNN) was applied to predict the hydrogen concentration in the containment. The FNN model was developed and verified based on simulation data acquired by simulating MAAP4 code for optimized power reactor 1,000. The FNN model is expected to assist operators to prevent a hydrogen explosion in severe accident situations and manage the accident properly because they are able to predict the changes in the trend of hydrogen concentration at the beginning of real accidents by using the developed FNN model.

  • 프로톤 전도성 세라믹인 페로브스카이트 구조의 산화물은 고온 환경에서 고체 전해질 및 촉매로써 동시에 활용이 가능하여, 반응과 분리기능을 동시에 갖춘 멤브레인 반응기로 적용하기에 우수한 소재이다. 특히 수소 제조 촉매와 분리, 이를 결합한 멤브레인 반응기 개발에 관한 연구는 전해질 내 도핑 금속의 종류 및 온도, 반응물의 조성 등에 따라 다양한 연구 결과가 제시되고 있다. 이에 본 총설에서는 프로톤 전도성 세라믹반응기에서 메탄을 활용하여 수소 제조촉매와 멤브레인 반응기로 응용해 온 연구 동향을 살펴보고, 차세대 수소의 제조와 분리 기술로서의 응용분야 및 전망에 관해 고찰하고자 한다.
