There is enthusiasm among many mathematics educators to seek to understand how history of mathematics can be employed to emphasize the usefulness of mathematics and to make it even more useful. We investigate theoretical backgrounds of using history of mathematics for secondary students and prospective mathematics teachers. On the basis of historico-genetic principle and mathematics teachers' professional knowledge, we go into curriculum of prospective mathematics teachers. This study focussed on developing pedagogical approach using history of mathematics for prospective mathematics teachers.

This study is to investigate archival use behavior of history teachers in high schools. The study conducted 3 times interviews with high school history teachers and carried out a survey on recognition of archives, archival use, archival seeking behavior, and harrier factors for archival use to 30 teachers from the 2 local communities of history teachers. According to the survey, history teachers have used archives for raising the historical understanding by students in their classes. But the tight curriculums of history and the lack of time to search archives were barrier factors for teachers to use archives in their classes. The teachers who participated in this survey suggested that integrated DBs of archives in Korea and source books with commentaries need to promote use of archives in history classes.

The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effects of teachers' psychological well-being between teachers' attachment history and child-teacher relationships. The participants of this survey were 342 teachers from 41 day care centers and 11 kindergartens in four metropolitan cities and five provinces in Korea. The collected data were analysed through frequency and percentage calculation, Pearson's correlations, and the mediation methods suggested by Baron & Kenny(1986) were calculated by using SPSS 21.0. The findings are as follows. First, the percentage points of the attachment history of early childhood, the teachers' psychological well-being and the child-teacher relationship were higher than the average. Also, all the variables had correlations. Second, the teachers' psychological well-being partly mediated the relations between attachment history and child-teacher relationships. These results imply that teachers' psychological well-being is needed for positive child-teacher relationships, and can provide policy implications for teachers' psychological well-being in order to improve the quality of child-teacher relationships.

In this study, in order to use history of mathematics effectively, we investigate the pre-service teachers' perceptions about utilizing history of mathematics. As a result, we must introduce history of mathematics will be able to apply concretely in class to the pre-service teachers. And We must provide the method which is various will be able to apply history of mathematics in class to the pre-service teachers enough. Also, We must provide the instance which relates in utilizing history of mathematics to pre-service teachers enough.

The purpose of this study was to analyse the teachers' perception about the applying the history of Korean science in elementary science class. To research the educational value and application of the history of Korean Science in Elementary science class, 202 teachers of elementary school were asked to reply the questionnaire of 5-point Likert scale and Elementary science textbooks were analysed. The results of this study indicated that 4th grade science textbooks does not include the history of Korean Science, and a majority of teachers perceived positively about its educational value. 4th grade teachers showed relatively negative perception on the educational value of the history of Korean Science and Elementary school teachers were very positive about including it as the main classes of the curriculum.

This study analyzed the perception of prospective elementary school teachers in relation to using the history of Korean mathematics. The results of this study showed that the pre-service teachers realized using the history of Korean mathematics more importantly than the history of mathematics. They thought that the contents of the history of Korean mathematics should be increased in mathematics education and pre-service teacher education. The participation experience in teacher education about the history of Korean mathematics had a positive effect on the perception of pre-service teachers. Finally, this paper asserted that teacher education is the key to the teacher perception on and using of the history of Korean mathematics.

This study was conducted to obtain basic materials to improve the teaching method of Home Economics by theoretically looking into the supplementary teaching materials or implements usable in teaching Costume History area. And based on these data, the types and the applications of the supplementary teaching materials or implements highschool owned were examined. The subjects of this study were 111 Home Economics and Housework curriculum highschool teachers who give a lecture in the country by using self-administered questionnaires. SAS program was used to calculate frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation, and $\chi$(sup)2-test analysis. The results of the study were as follows； 1. Most of the highschool teachers used the school expenses for experiments in preparing the supplementary teaching materials or implements. 2. Of the supplementary teaching materials and implements concerning Costume History, visual implements such as slides and pictures were the mostly owned. CD and audio implements as cassette-tapes were not used. 3. Most of the teachers recognized the importance of the audio-visual teaching materials and implements concerning Costume History. 4. Among the audio-visual materials and implements concerning Costume History by which can be made by school teachers of Home Economics and Housework curriculum, the mostly used one was ‘cutting pictorials from magazines and newspapers’, and the next were ‘orbital materials’, and ‘copy the pictorials’, and the least was ‘recording from the radio’. 5. Most of the annual expenses assigned to the department of Home Economics was used in cooking practice, and the least of the expenses was assigned in buying audio-visual teaching materials and implements. 6. Time assigned to the area of Home Economics was for the most part one or two hours per week, and among this, time assigned to the history of western costume and the history ok korean costume was for the most part five to eight hours. 7. The areas that the highschool teachers felt difficulties mostly during clothing and textiles curriculum were ‘textiles’and the next were ‘knitting’, ‘western costume history’, and ‘korean clothing construction’. 8. The difficulties the highschool teachers faced while teaching Costume History were mostly that ‘the pictorials in the text is not fully explainable’, the next were ‘most of the supplementary teaching materials or implements are not owned’, ‘have to explain very much in a short time’, and ‘the lectural explanation is insufficient’. 9. The solution for the difficulties that the highschool teachers faced while teaching Costume History was mostly ‘the information, on which audio-visual materials and implements are distributed in the market, should be easy to obtain’, the next opinions were ‘the school should provide enough experiment and practice expenses to buy audio-visual materials and implements’, and ‘education facilities of the Home Economics Department should be the main aspects in improving the teaching methods and should give special lectures about it’.

In this study we analyze critically the educational studies on the history of mathematics, and the results of the questionnaires to the mathematics teachers and mathematics teacher educators and interviews with them in order to highlight the problems which ought to be settled for more efficient using the history of mathematics in the mathematics classes. We ought to deepen the understanding of the meaning of mathematical concepts and its essential viewpoints through the historical development of mathematics, going beyond the interest and motivation of learning mathematics. In this respect there are insufficient sides in the results of the educational studies in the history of mathematics and in the recognition of the mathematics teachers about using history of mathematics. And the teachings of the history of mathematics in the mathematics teachers education courses are not sufficient in that they just survey the history of mathematics, and it is the very important task to develop the historic-genetic materials in the school mathematics and study the historic-genetic approach to the mathematics texts.

This paper aims at investigating the algebraic solution of cubic and quartic equation and eliciting the didactical meanings of them. First, I examine the event which relates to the equation in the history of mathematics and investigate the algebraic solution of cubic and quartic equation. And then I elicit the didactical suggestions which are required of teachers and students when they investigate the algebraic solution of cubic and quartic equation. In general, the investigation of these solutions is the valuable task which requires the algebraic intuition and technique for students and certificates expert knowledge for teachers.

The purpose of this study is to assess the changes that occur to pre-service mathematics teachers by using survey on the self-reflection during their education practices. For four weeks of the education practice period, the changes to pre-service teachers are analyzed from teaching and learning perspectives. The teaching perspective is sub-categorized into lesson contents, teaching methods, and evaluation on teaching, and the learning perspective is sub-categorized into monitoring on learning, support for learning and evaluation on learning. The analysis shows that significant changes occur in teaching contents from the teaching perspective and in all the sub-categories from the learning perspective. Based on the analysis, preservice teachers are suggested to utilize self-reflection programs during their education practices to promote their professionalism in teaching.
