Support Vector Machine Based Arrhythmia Classification Using Reduced Features

  • In this paper, we proposed an algorithm for arrhythmia classification, which is associated with the reduction of feature dimensions by linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and a support vector machine (SVM) based classifier. Seventeen original input features were extracted from preprocessed signals by wavelet transform, and attempts were then made to reduce these to 4 features, the linear combination of original features, by LDA. The performance of the SVM classifier with reduced features by LDA showed higher than with that by principal component analysis (PCA) and even with original features. For a cross-validation procedure, this SVM classifier was compared with Multilayer Perceptrons (MLP) and Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) classifiers. When all classifiers used the same reduced features, the overall performance of the SVM classifier was comprehensively superior to all others. Especially, the accuracy of discrimination of normal sinus rhythm (NSR), arterial premature contraction (APC), supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), premature ventricular contraction (PVC), ventricular tachycardia (VT) and ventricular fibrillation (VF) were $99.307\%,\;99.274\%,\;99.854\%,\;98.344\%,\;99.441\%\;and\;99.883\%$, respectively. And, even with smaller learning data, the SVM classifier offered better performance than the MLP classifier.

The Content Analysis of Informatics Education as a General Education Course in Universities in terms of Information Technology (IT) Fluency (IT 유창성의 관점에서 대학 교양과정의 정보교육 내용 분석)

  • It is required that university students acquire information technology in order to adapt to the information society. Therefore, it is inevitable for universities to provide students with an effective curriculum to improve IT fluency. The purpose of this study is to analyze the content of the informatics learning programs in universities in Korea in terms of IT fluency which is defined by National Academy of Science NRC99. Based on the information that the Academy Information Center announced, the content analysis was carried out from September 2010 to June 2011. According to the result of the analysis, 84 of 201 universities provide the informatics education as a mandatory course. 29 of them mainly provide the programs about word processors, spreadsheet, and presentation that are regarded as contemporary skills. These programs cover the fundamental concept, but the contents which require intellectual capabilities are rarely addressed. Moreover, the informatics education has mainly focused on elementary and secondary education. In this sense, it is valid to analyze the contents and current states of the informatics learning programs required in higher education.

Effects of Melatonin on Gene Expression of IVM/IVF Porcine Embryos

  • The effect of melatonin on in vitro embryo development and the expression of antioxidant enzyme gene in preimplantation porcine embryos was determined by modified semi-quantitative single cell RT-PCR. Porcine embryos derived from in vitro maturation /in vitro fertilization were cultured in 5% $CO_2$ and 20% $O_2$ at $37^{\circ}C$ in NCSU23 medium. Melatonin was added to medium at concentration of 1nM, 5 nM, and 10 nM. When treated with 1nM (39.0%) of melatonin, the developmental rate of embryos beyond the morula stage were higher than that of control group (31.0%) (p<0.05). Number of inner cell mass and tropectoderm cell in control (23.0${\pm}$0.5 and 17.3${\pm}$0.8), 1 nM (23.6${\pm}$0.6 and 19.0${\pm}$0.5), and 5 nM (23.3${\pm}$1.1 and 16.3${\pm}$0.8) treated with melatonin were higher than in 10 nM (20.0${\pm}$0.5 and 13.3${\pm}$0.8) treated with melatonin (p<0.05). To develop an mRNA phenotypic map for the expression of catalase, bax and caspase-3, single cell RT-PCR analysis were carried out in porcine IVM/IVF embryo. Catalase was detected in 0, 1 and 5 nM supplemented with melatonin, but bax and caspase-3 were detected in 10 nM treated with melatonin.

Identification of Polymorphisms in CAST Gene Associated with Economic Traits in Hanwoo (Bos taurus coreanae) (한우(Bos taurus coreanae)의 CAST 유전자 내 변이지역 탐색 및 경제형질과의 연관성 분석)

  • A number of studies have shown that the calpain system is important in normal skeletal muscle growth. An increased rate of skeletal muscle growth can result from a decreased rate of muscle protein degradation, and this is associated with a decrease in activity of the calpain system, due principally to a large increase in calpastatin (CAST) activity. The CAST gene, mapped to BTA 7, is considered a candidate gene for beef tenderness and muscle growth. The present study used comparative sequencing of five novel polymorphisms located within exon 20 and 22 of the bovine CAST gene in Hanwoo: exon20- 109737G/A, 109749T/C, 109823T/C, exon22- 116151G/A, intron- 109926G/A. The association of the CAST SNPs with economic traits was studied. The 109926G/A showed a significant effect only on the longissimus muscle area (LMA, p<0.05) in Hanwoo. 109926G/A with the genotype GG had a significantly higher effect on LMA (75.35) than the genotype AA (69.6, p<0.05). Also, the 116151G/A showed a significant effect only on weight at 18 months (W18, p<0.05). 116151G/A with the genotype GG had a significantly higher effect on W18 (428.54) than the genotype AA (408.87, p<0.05).

  • In this paper, we obtain the existence of positive solutions for a quasi-linear four-point boundary value problem of higher-order differential equation. By using the fixed point index theorem and imposing some conditions on f, the existence of positive solutions to a higher-order four-point boundary value problem with a p-Laplacian is obtained.

Purification and Properties of Extracellular Lipases with Transesterification Activity and 1,3-Regioselectivity from Rhizomucor miehei and Rhizopus oryzae

  • Rhizomucor miehei NRRL 5282 and Rhizopus oryzae NRRL 1526 can produce lipases with high synthetic activities in wheat bran-based solid-state culture. In this study, the purification and biochemical characterization of the lipolytic activities of these lipases are presented. SDS-PAGE indicated a molecular mass of about 55 and 35 kDa for the purified R. miehei and Rh. oryzae enzymes, respectively. p-Nitrophenyl palmitate (pNPP) hydrolysis was maximal at $40^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.0 for the R. miehei lipase, and at $30^{\circ}C$ and pH 5.2 for the Rh. oryzae enzyme. The enzymes showed almost equal affinity to pNPP, but the $V_{max}$ of the Rh. oryzae lipase was about 1.13 times higher than that determined for R. miehei using the same substrate. For both enzymes, a dramatic loss of activity was observed in the presence of 5 mM $Hg^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, or $Mn^{2+}$, 10 mM N-bromosuccinimide or sodium dodecyl sulfate, and 5-10% (v/v) of hexanol or butanol. At the same time, they proved to be extraordinarily stable in the presence of n-hexane, cyclohexane, n-heptane, and isooctane. Moreover, isopentanol up to 10% (v/v) and propionic acid in 1 mM concentrations increased the pNPP hydrolyzing activity of R. miehei lipase. Both enzymes had 1,3-regioselectivity, and efficiently hydrolyzed p-nitrophenyl (pNP) esters with C8-C16 acids, exhibiting maximum activity towards pNP-caprylate (R. miehei) and pNP-dodecanoate (Rh. oryzae). The purified lipases are promising candidates for various biotechnological applications.

A Study on Improvement of Higher Informatics Education in Korea (한국 고등정보교육 개선 방안 연구)

  • IT의 급속한 발달은 교육에 대한 인식과 체계를 변화시키고 있다. 각국은 불확실한 사회 변화에 대처하기 위해 정보교육을 강화하고 있는 것도 IT의 발전이 국가의 경쟁력으로 반영되기 때문이다. 본 연구는 미국의 고등정보 교육과정 표준인 CS2013에 근거하여, 층화표집과 무선추출로 선정된 한국의 7개 대학 정보교육과정 현황을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 하나의 대학을 제외한 모든 대학은 소프트웨어 개발 기초(SDF)와 프로그래밍 언어(PL)과 관련된 과목개설 비중이 15%이상 29.2%이하로 높은 비중을 차지하였다. 플랫폼 기반 개발과 병렬 및 분산 컴퓨팅 지식영역을 세 곳의 대학만 포함하고 있었으며, 정보 보호와 보안영역은 네 곳의 대학만 포함하고 있었다. 본 연구는 국가수준의 고등정보 표준교육과정이 부재한 상황에서 교육과정 구성을 위한 단초 및 고등교육의 시사점을 제공하기 위한 목적이 있다.

Genetic Traceability of Black Pig Meats Using Microsatellite Markers

  • Pork from Jeju black pig (population J) and Berkshire (population B) has a unique market share in Korea because of their high meat quality. Due to the high demand of this pork, traceability of the pork to its origin is becoming an important part of the consumer demand. To examine the feasibility of such a system, we aim to provide basic genetic information of the two black pig populations and assess the possibility of genetically distinguishing between the two breeds. Muscle samples were collected from slaughter houses in Jeju Island and Namwon, Chonbuk province, Korea, for populations J and B, respectively. In total 800 Jeju black pigs and 351 Berkshires were genotyped at thirteen microsatellite (MS) markers. Analyses on the genetic diversity of the two populations were carried out in the programs MS toolkit and FSTAT. The population structure of the two breeds was determined by a Bayesian clustering method implemented in structure and by a phylogenetic analysis in Phylip. Population J exhibited higher mean number of alleles, expected heterozygosity and observed heterozygosity value, and polymorphism information content, compared to population B. The $F_{IS}$ values of population J and population B were 0.03 and -0.005, respectively, indicating that little or no inbreeding has occurred. In addition, genetic structure analysis revealed the possibility of gene flow from population B to population J. The expected probability of identify value of the 13 MS markers was $9.87{\times}10^{-14}$ in population J, $3.17{\times}10^{-9}$ in population B, and $1.03{\times}10^{-12}$ in the two populations. The results of this study are useful in distinguishing between the two black pig breeds and can be used as a foundation for further development of DNA markers.

Hospital Nurses' Job Stress, Sleep Disturbance, and Fatigue (병원간호사의 직무스트레스, 수면장애, 피로)

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to investigate hospital nurses' job stress, sleep disturbance, and fatigue and to examine the relationships among them. Methods: The subjects were 119 registered nurses working in two hospitals. The data were collected from September 1 to September 30, 2015 using self-report questionnaires. The data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 program. Results: Job stress levels of nurses were middle or higher level. Nurses levels of sleep disorders was higher than the median. It was the middle of the fatigue level of the nurses. There was a difference between sleep disorders and fatigue, depending on age and working department. There was a significant quantitative correlation among stress, sleep disorders, and fatigue. Conclusion: Therefore, it is necessary to develop programs to reduce job stress and sleep disorders and fatigue of hospital nurses. And it requires institutional improvements.

  • The curriculum is about what to teach and learn, which is the basis for judging the level of knowledge. At the present time when the necessity of informatics education is emphasized, cultivation of human resources to actively cope with the SW-oriented society is the core of national competitiveness. The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the quantitative aspects of high school curriculum based on higher education curriculum. Among the 18 knowledge areas, 'America' has 15 areas, 'UK' has 10 areas, and 'Japan' has 7 areas. However, 'Korea' has 6 areas, The purpose of this study is to understand the current status of Korea's information curriculum through the analysis of curriculum and to provide contents and implications for the curriculum revision.
