The Galois ring is a finite extension of the ring of integers modulo a prime power. We consider characters on Galois rings. In analogy with finite fields, we investigate complete Gauss sums over Galois rings. In particular, we analyze [1, Proposition 3] and give some lemmas related to [1, Proposition 3].

A characterization of geodesic spheres in the simply connected space forms in terms of the ratio of the Gauss-Kronecker curvature and the (usual) mean curvature is given: An immersion of n dimensional compact oriented manifold without boundary into the n + 1 dimensional Euclidean space, hyperbolic space or open half sphere is a totally umbilicimmersion if the mean curvature $H_1$ does not vanish and the ratio $H_n$/$H_1$ of the Gauss-Kronecker curvature $H_n$ and $H_1$ is constant.

It is well-known that a null 2-type surface in 3-dimensional Euclidean space $E^#$ is an open portion of circular cylinder. In this article we prove that a surface with 2-type and 1-type Gauss map in $E^3$ is in fact of null 2-type and thus it is an open portion of circular cylinder.

The helicoidal surface is a generalization of rotation surface in a Minkowski space. We study helicoidal surfaces in a Minkowski 3-space in terms of their Gauss map and provide some examples of new classes of helicoidal surfaces with constant mean curvature in a Minkowski 3-space.

Let W be a parallelizable compact oriented manifold of dimension $n$ with boundary ${\partial}W=M$. We define the so-called Gauss map $f:M{\rightarrow}S^{n-1}$ using a framing of TW and show that the degree of $f$ is equal to Euler-Poincar$\acute{e}$ number ${\chi}(W)$, regardless of the specific framing. As a special case, we get a Hopf theorem.

By using the analytic methods, the mean value of the general quadratic Gauss sums weighted by the first power mean of character sums over a short interval is investigated. Several sharp asymptotic formulae are obtained, which show that these sums enjoy good distributive properties. Moreover, interesting connections among them are established.

In this paper, the probabilistic relations of dual morphological operations, such as dilation and erosion, closing and opening, and close- open and open-close, and the statistical properties for a continuous stationary lst order Gauss-Markov source are analyzed. The result is that the dual filters have symmetrical means and skews, and equal variances. Also, the statistics of morphological filters are very similar with those of input source, as correlation coefficient increases.

In this paper, we study ruled surfaces in Minkowski space, which admit 1-type Gauss map. In particular, non-cylindrical ruled surfaces with finite type Gauss map are of k-type (k $\geq$ 2).

The main purpose of this paper is using the elementary and analytic methods to study the properties of the 2k-th power mean value of the generalized quadratic Gauss sums, and give two exact mean value formulae for k = 3 and 4.
