  • In this paper, a digital controller design procedure is presented for single-phase voltage-doubler boost rectifiers (VDBR). The model derivation of the single-phase VDBR is performed in the s-domain. After that the simplified equivalent z-domain models are derived. These z-domain models are utilized to design the input current and the output dc-link voltage controllers. For the controller design in the z-domain, the traditional K-factor method is modified by considering the nature of the digital controller. The frequency pre-warping and anti-windup techniques are adapted for the controller design. By using the proposed method, the phase margin and the control bandwidth are accurately achieved as required by controller designers in a practical frequency range. The proposed method is applied to a 2.5 kVA single-phase VDBR for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) applications. From the simulation and the experimental results, the effectiveness of the proposed design method has been verified.

  • The study deals with the vibration of a beam whose flexural and centroidal axes are not coincident. The elementary bending-twisting theory is employed to derive the equation of motion, in which the effects of rotary inertia are added to the bending displacements and the effects of warping are added to the twist. Bending translation is restricted to one direction so that one bending equation is used instead of two. The equations of motion are solved by using the boundary value problem. The exact natural frequencies are fund from the frequency equation, which is obtained from the condition that the homogeneous system of algebraic equations representing the spatial solution shall not yield a trivial solution. The orthogonal conditions are established, and the principal mode equations of forced vibration are derived. As an example, the cantilevered beam is chosen and the first some natural frequencies and their modal shapes are found.

  • In this paper, we describe an isolated words recognition system for Korean isolated digits based on a voiced -unvoiced decision algorithm and a frequency domain analysis. The algorithm first performs a voiced-unvoiced decision procedure for the begtinning part of each uttered work using the normalized log energy and zero crossing rate as decision parameters. Based on this decision,. each word is assigned to one of two classes. In order to identify the uttered word within each class, a dynamic time warping algorithm is applied using formant frequencies as the basis for the distance measure. We exploit a pole-zero analysis to measure formant frequencies in each frame. We have observed that pole-zero analysis can provide more accurate estimation of formant frequencies than analysis based on poles only. Experimental recognition rates of 97.3% illustrating the performance of the recognition system was achieved.

  • The channel type structure which has large openings is frail with respect to torsional strength, and the horizontal-torsional motion is highly coupled, because of the large difference between the centroil and the shear center. Also, a discontinuous boundary phase is came from tansition section between the opened section and the closed section. To analyze the Bending- Torsional coupled mode parameters for the channel type structure, the Transfer Matrix Method was used. Comparing the result of F.D.M.T.M.M yields good results in relatively low frequency region.

  • The interaction of disk galaxies with intergalactic winds has been invoked as a possible mechanism of the generation of galactic warps. Here we discuss conditions under which intergalactic flows can be relevant for warping field galaxies. Constraints include the heating of the outer disk, the level of asymmetry in the vertical distribution of the volume gas density, the angular frequency of the warp, the symmetry of galactic warps amplitude between the approaching and receding sides of the galaxy, and the speed of the intergalactic flow whether subsonic or supersonic. These constraints are discussed in this paper in reference to the proposal of Lopez-Corredoira et al. that warps can be a natural consequence of accretion flows onto the disk.

  • This paper studied the speech parameters less affected by the human emotion for the development of the robust emotional speech recognition system. For this purpose, the effect of emotion on the speech recognition system and robust speech parameters of speech recognition system were studied using speech database containing various emotions. In this study, mel-cepstral coefficient, delta-cepstral coefficient, RASTA mel-cepstral coefficient, root-cepstral coefficient, PLP coefficient and frequency warped mel-cepstral coefficient in the vocal tract length normalization method were used as feature parameters. And CMS (Cepstral Mean Subtraction) and SBR(Signal Bias Removal) method were used as a signal bias removal technique. Experimental results showed that the HMM based speaker independent word recognizer using frequency warped RASTA mel-cepstral coefficient in the vocal tract length normalized method, its derivatives and CMS as a signal bias removal showed the best performance.

  • Since soil structure interactions are one of the most important subjects in the structural/foundation engineering, much study concerning the soil structure interactions had been carried out. One of typical structures related to the soil structure interactions is the strip foundation which is basically defined as the beam or strip rested on or supported by the soils. At the present time, lack of studies on dynamic problems related to the strip foundations is still found in the literature. From these viewpoint this paper aims to theoretically investigate dynamics of the parabolic strip foundations and also to present the practical engineering data for the design purpose. Differential equations governing the free, out o plane vibrations of such strip foundations are derived, in which effects of the rotatory and torsional inertias and also shear deformation are included although the warping of the cross-section is excluded. Governing differential equations subjected to the boundary conditions of free-free end constraints are numerically solved for obtaining the natural frequencies and mode shapes by using the numerical integration technique and the numerical method of nonlinear equation.

  • This paper presents a new method of designing room equalization filters using a warped common acoustical pole and zero (WCAPZ) modeling. The proposed method is capable of significantly reducing the order of the equalization filters without sacrificing the filter performance, especially, at low frequencies. Thus, the associated input-output delay is much smaller than the conventional block transform method while its computational complexity is comparable to it. The computational complexity also is still comparable to the conventional room equalization method, since the filter is implemented in the linear frequency domain after the pole-zero dewarping. Simulation results confirm that the use of the proposed algorithm significantly improves the room equalization over a range of low frequencies.
