In this paper, we describe characteristics of a movable bridge called the Anjok and propose an improved string model which has delay line controller in physical modeling of the Gayageum. Movable bridge, the Anjok determines the length of vibrating string and transmits the vibration of each string to the body of the Gayageum. We analyze the variations in frequency domain and implement the Anjok model as parametric form using the first-order polynomial fitting in logarithmic scale graph, because the length of string changes fundamental frequency. In order to implement the Anjok model, frequency fitting, tension fitting and frequency fitting using leaky integrator are used. The frequency fitting using leaky integrator has the best results among those. Proposed string model with the Anjok model can represent real tuning system of the real Gayageum and the proposed model could synthesize sounds which is similar to original sounds.

The finite difference method and the method of characteristics are frequently used for the numerical analysis of kinematic wave model. Truncation errors cause the peak discharge dissipated in the solution from the finite difference method. The peak discharge is conserved in the solution from the finite difference method. The peak discharge is conserved in the solution from the method of characteristics, however, the shock may deteriorates the numerical solution. In this paper, distinctive features of each scheme are investigated for the numerical analysis of kinematic wave model, and applicability of shock fitting algorithm such as Propagating Shock Fitting and Approximated Shock Fitting methods are studied. Propagating Shock Fitting method appears to treat shock properly, however, it failed to fit the shock appropriately when applied to a sudden inflow change in a long river. Approximate Shock Sitting method, which uses finer elements, is found to be more proper shock-fitting than the Propagating Shock Fitting method. Comparisons are made between two solution from the kinematic wave theory with shock fitting and full dynamic wave theory, and the results are discussed.

A lot of data, particularly in the medical field, contain variables that have a measurement error such as blood pressure and body mass index. On the other hand, recently smoothing methods are often used to solve a complex scientific problem. In this paper, we study a Bayesian curve-fitting under functional measurement error model. Especially, we extend our previous model by incorporating covariates free of measurement error. In this paper, we consider penalized splines for non-linear pattern. We employ a hierarchical Bayesian framework based on Markov Chain Monte Carlo methodology for fitting the model and estimating parameters. For application we use the data from the fifth wave (2012) of the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data, a national population-based data. To examine the convergence of MCMC sampling, potential scale reduction factors are used and we also confirm a model selection criteria to check the performance.

Many graphical methods have been suggested for obtaining an impression of a curvature in regression problem in which some covariates enter nonlinearly. However when true model does not belong to the class of additive models, graphical methods may contain a serious bias. A method is suggested which can avoid such bias in the fitting of nonaddive models.

In this paper, we present realistic 3D head modeling and facial expression systems. For 3D head modeling, we perform generic model fitting to make individual head shape and texture mapping. To calculate the deformation function in the generic model fitting, we determine correspondence between individual heads and the generic model. Then, we reconstruct the feature points to 3D with simultaneously captured images from calibrated stereo camera. For texture mapping, we project the fitted generic model to image and map the texture in the predefined triangle mesh to generic model. To prevent extracting the wrong texture, we propose a simple method using a modified interpolation function. For generating 3D facial expression, we use the vector muscle based algorithm. For more realistic facial expression, we add the deformation of the skin according to the jaw rotation to basic vector muscle model and apply mass spring model. Finally, several 3D facial expression results are shown at the end of the paper.

The hybrid geoid model should be determined by fitting the gravimetric geoid to the geometric geoid which were presented the local vertical level. Therefore, it is necessary to find firstly the optimal scheme for improving the accuracy of gravimetric geoid in order to development the high-precision hybrid geoid model. Through finding the optimal scheme for determining the each part of gravimetric geoid, the most accurate gravimetric geoid model in Korea will be developed when the EIGEN-CG03C model to degree 360, 4-band spherical FFT and RTM reduction methods were used for determining the long, middle and short-frequency part of gravimetric geoid respectively. Finally, we developed the hybrid geoid model around Korea by correcting to gravimetric geoid with the correction term. The correction term is modelled using the difference between GPS/Levelling derived geoidal heights and gravimetric geoidal heights. The stochastic model used in the calculation of correction term is the LSC technique based on second-order Markov covariance function. 503 GPS/Levelling data were used to model the correction term. The degree of LSC fitting to the final hybrid geoid model in Korea was evaluated as 0.001m ${\pm}0.054m$.
To study the relationship between the levels of chemical pollutants and the number of daily total hospital admissions for respiratory diseases and to find the effect of temperature/relative humidity on the admission number, Wong et al. [17] introduced the varying-coefficient single-index model (VCSIM). As pointed out, it is a popular multivariate nonparametric fitting technique. However, the tests of the model have not been very well developed. In this paper, based on the estimators obtained by the local linear technique, the average method and the one-step back-fitting technique in the VCSIM, the generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) tests for varying-coefficient parts on the VCSIM are established. Under the null hypotheses the new proposed GLR tests follow the $\chi^2$-distribution asymptotically with scale constant and degree of freedom independent of the nuisance parameters, known as Wilks phenomenon. Simulations are conducted to evaluate the test procedure empirically. A real example is used to illustrate the performance of the testing approach.

Active Appearance Model is a well-known model that can represent a non-rigid object effectively. However, since it uses the fixed appearance model, the fitting results are often unsatisfactory when the imaging condition of the target image is different from that of training images. To alleviate this problem, incremental AAM was proposed which updates its appearance bases in an on-line manner. However, it cannot deal with the sudden changes of illumination. To overcome this, we propose a novel scheme to update the appearance bases. When a new person appears in the input image, we synthesize illuminated images of that person and update the appearance bases of AAM using it. Since we update the appearance bases using synthesized illuminated images in advance, the AAM can fit their model to a target image well when the illumination changes drastically. The experimental results show that our proposed algorithm improves the fitting performance over both the incremental AAM and the original AAM.

A MWR(Missile Warning Radar) of GVES(Ground Vehicle Equipment System) has to effectively decide the threat for a detected target. Linear Approximation Fitting(LAF) and Weighted Linear Approximation Fitting(WLAF) algorithm is proposed as algorithm for a threat decision method. The target is classified into a threat or non-threat using a boundary condition of the angular rate, and the boundary condition is determined using probability model simulation. This paper confirms the performance of proposed threat decision algorithm using measurement.

This paper describes the design of a forged fitting form to acquire a method of product design measurement by target measurement standards. The pipefitting connects each pipe and combines seals and nipples with the pipes normally. Therefore, the section combined with the fitting pipe was measured by a 3D scanner, and the acquired measurement and the design measurement were obtained after modification of the forged fitting pipe by that standard. Moreover, the accuracy of the model was verified through leakage testing of the oil and verification of the design measurement for accuracy decisions on the design measurement after modification of the product.
