  • For safe evacuation in the fire disaster, the evacuees must find the exit and evacuate quickly. Especially, if the evacuees don't know the location of the exit, they have to depend on the evacuation guidance system. Because the more smoke spread, the less visibility is decreasing, it is difficult to find the way to the exit by the naked eye. For theses reasons, the evacuation guidance system is highly important. However, the evacuation guidance system without change of direction has the risk that introduce to the dangerous area. In the evacuation safety assessment scenario by the evacuation simulation has the same problem. Because the evacuee in the simulation evacuate by the shortest route to the exit, the simulation result is same like the evacuation without the evacuation guidance system. In this study, it was used with MAS (Multi Agent System)-based simulation program including the evacuation guidance system to implement the change of evacuation by fire. Using this method, confidence of evacuation safety assessment can be increase.

NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF WIND-DRIVEN FIRE FLUMES

  • In many large urban-fire scenarios one of the critical issues is to attempt to protect the lives of fire fighters in helicopters deployed to flying over the fires and also the lives of people trapped in open areas downwind of the fires such as in parks. The strategies of such protection measures depend significantly on our knowledge of the size and extent of such fires as affected by the prevailing winds. In this study, the shape or profile of the fire plume typical of large urban fires, as affected by a steady unidirectional wind with or without imposing a shear flow on the fire plume, has been simulated numerically by a field model. The results show that the simulations provide realistic flame profiles and at least qualitatively, the same flame dynamics when compared to those from the experiments, and that the fire plumes are sensitive to small variations in the asymmetry of the wind shears, including the appearance of swirling flames within the fire plumes.

  • Recently buildings are constructed in larger and higher scales and becoming more complex. However from small to large scale buildings and on construction sites there still are fire safety accidents that occur continuously. Therefore to improve fire safety plan, examining the actual fire safety management and understanding fire risk analysis Using Fire Modeling through Computer Simulation. On this study, the permissible evacuation times were estimated for smoke fall, temperature, CO concentration, viability, etc. Fire safety management plans for fire safety were suggested.

대규모 클린룸 화재의 시뮬레이션 (Simulation of Fire in Large Cleanrooms)

  • FDS를 사용하여 대규모 클린룸에서의 화재에 대한 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 먼저 격자크기를 검토하여 크기가 $0.5{\times}0.5{\times}0.2m^3$인 격자를 사용하였다. 화재가 발생했을 때 온도와 가시거리, 일산화탄소의 성능위주설계 인명안전기준에 따라 안전을 확인하기 위하여 3개의 대규모 클린룸에서의 화재를 대상으로 하였다. 스프링클러가 작동하지 않는 경우에도 클린룸 모두 온도가 기준보다 낮아 안전함을 확인하였다. 또한 화재로 인한 가시거리의 감소와 일산화탄소농도도 무시할 수 있었다.

  • 본 논문에서는 대심도 지하철역사의 승강장 종류에 따라 화재시 연기의 전파특성을 비교하였다. 본 연구에서 비교 대상역사로서 상대식 승강장은 서울 숭실대입구역사(47m)로, 섬식은 부산 만덕지하역사(65m)를 선정하여 각 역사에 대하여 화재전산모사를 수행하였다. 해석을 통하여 화재의 연기전파특성을 파악하였으며, 그 결과를 이용하여 각 승강장 종류별로 대심도 지하역사의 방재대책을 세우고자 한다.

  • 산불 확산의 인자 중에 바람과 경사면은 가장 중요한 인자들로 고려된다. 일반적으로 복잡한 산악지형에서는 동일한 경사면이라도 서로 다른 분포의 바람을 갖는다. 본 논문에서는 지형데이타를 이용한 산림내 각 지역에서의 풍향 풍속의 유동장을 계산하여 산불확산을 예측하였으며 그 결과 값을 사용하여 ROS(Rate Of Spread)실험식이 적용된 산불 확산 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 이를 실제 산불확산에 적용하여 90%이상의 일치성을 확인하였다.

Seismic capacity evaluation of fire-damaged cabinet facility in a nuclear power plant

  • This study is to evaluate the seismic capacity of the fire-damaged cabinet facility in a nuclear power plant (NPP). A prototype of an electrical cabinet is modeled using OpenSees for the numerical simulation. To capture the nonlinear behavior of the cabinet, the constitutive law of the material model under the fire environment is considered. The experimental record from the impact hammer test is extracted trough the frequency-domain decomposition (FDD) method, which is used to verify the effectiveness of the numerical model through modal assurance criteria (MAC). Assuming different temperatures, the nonlinear time history analysis is conducted using a set of fifty earthquakes and the seismic outputs are investigated by the fragility analysis. To get a threshold of intensity measure, the Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) is adopted for uncertainty reduction purposes. Finally, a capacity estimation model has been proposed through the investigation, which will be helpful for the engineer or NPP operator to evaluate the fire-damaged cabinet strength under seismic excitation. This capacity model is presented in terms of the High Confidence of Low Probability of Failure (HCLPF) point. The results are validated by the proper judgment and can be used to analyze the influences of fire on the electrical cabinet.

Structural Performance of Reinforced Concrete Flat Plate Buildings Subjected to Fire

  • The research presented in this paper analytically examines the fire performance of flat plate buildings. The modeling parameters for the mechanical and thermal properties of materials are calibrated from relevant test data to minimize the uncertainties involved in analysis. The calibrated models are then adopted to perform a nonlinear finite element simulation on a flat plate building subjected to fire. The analysis examines the characteristics of slab deflection, in-plane deformation, membrane force, bending moment redistribution, and slab rotational deformation near the supporting columns. The numerical simulation enables the understanding of structural performance of flat plate under elevated temperature and, more importantly, identifies the high risk of punching failure at slab-column connections that may trigger large-scale failure in flat plate structures.

종합병원 병동부 피난환경 개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of the Evacuation in Ward of the General Hospital)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest architectural planning guideline for the improvement of the evacuation environment in a ward. To suggest of guideline, the problem of irrational domestic criteria is searched according to compare National fire code (NFPA101, Life safety code) with Korea building law. This study includes stairs, corridors and exit door etc. but excludes fire facilities. To verify effectiveness of suggested guideline, egress simulation is run that based on databases according to literature survey. The results of this study could be summarized as follow: Suggested guidelines are subdivision(fire partition), evacuation by elevator, secure useful waiting space of elevator hall and smokeproof enclosures, the corridor is divided by fire or smoke barriers corridor from hazardous room, only wheeled items are arranged in corridors of a ward story. The result of computer simulation for suggested guidelines verify that egress time can be decreased 20% or above.

선로부 TES를 갖는 지하철 역사내 화재의 수치 해석 (A NUMERICAL STUDY ON THE FIRE EMERGENCY IN THE UNDERGROUND STATION WITH TRACKWAY EXHAUST SYSTEM (TES))

  • In the present study, a numerical simulation of the subway carriage fire is performed to determine the more effective operation of Trackway Exhaust System(TES) in underground stations. The four types of possible TES operation (OSUS, OSUE, OEUS and OEUE) is simulated and compared their removal capability of smoke and hot temperature for the carriage fire of 2MW. From the results, the distribution of temperature and smoke concentration is more dependent on the operation of fans located at upper side of the platform than those at lower side. It is also found from the results that for more efficient smoke control, the fans at upper side of the platform should be operated as an exhaust system. Whereas the fans at lower side can be operated as a supply system to aid upper exhaust fans.
