In this study, we investigated a method of growing single crystal 𝛽-Ga2O3 thin films on a c-plane sapphire substrate using MOCVD. We confirmed the optimal growth conditions to increase the crystallinity of the 𝛽-Ga2O3 thin film and confirmed the effect of the ratio between O2 and Ga precursors on crystal growth on the crystallinity of the thin film. The growth temperature range was 600~1100℃, and crystallinity was analyzed when the O2/TMGa ratio was 800~6000. As a result, the highest crystallinity thin film was obtained when the molar ratio between precursors was 2400 at 1100℃. The surface of the thin film was observed with a FE-SEM and XRD ω-scan of the thin film, the FWHM was found to be 1.17° and 1.43° at the and (${\bar{2}}01$) and (${\bar{4}}02$) diffraction peaks. The optical band gap energy obtained was 4.78 ~ 4.88 eV, and the films showed a transmittance of over 80% in the near-ultraviolet and visible light regions.
Indium oxide nanocrystals ($In_2O_3$ NCs) with sizes of 5.5 nm-10 nm were synthesized by hot injection of the mixture precursors, indium acetate and oleic acid, into alcohol solution (1-octadecanol and 1-octadecence mixture). Field emission transmission electron microscopy (FE-TEM), High resolution X-Ray diffraction (X-ray), Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) were employed to investigate the size, surface molecular structure, and crystallinity of the synthesized $In_2O_3$ NCs. When covered by oleic acid as a capping group, the $In_2O_3$ NCs had a high crystallinity with a cubic structure, demonstrating a narrow size distribution. A high mobility of $2.51cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ and an on/off current ratio of about $1.0{\times}10^3$ were observed with an $In_2O_3$ NCs thin film transistor (TFT) device, where the channel layer of $In_2O_3$ NCs thin films were formed by a solution process of spin coating, cured at a relatively low temperature, $350^{\circ}C$. A size-dependent, non-monotonic trend on electron mobility was distinctly observed: the electron mobility increased from $0.43cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ for NCs with a 5.5 nm diameter to $2.51cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ for NCs with a diameter of 7.1 nm, and then decreased for NCs larger than 7.1 nm. This phenomenon is clearly explained by the combination of a smaller number of hops, a decrease in charging energy, and a decrease in electronic coupling with the increasing NC size, where the crossover diameter is estimated to be 7.1 nm. The decrease in electronic coupling proved to be the decisive factor giving rise to the decrease in the mobility associated with increasing size in the larger NCs above the crossover diameter.

Method for synthesizing a $K_2Ti_6O_{13}$ whisker is a solid-state method, hydrothermal synthesis method, calcination method, flux method, slow-cooling method, melting method, kneading-drying-calcination method, sol-gel method etc. $K_2Ti_6O_{13}$ whisker have been synthesized by a flux method. The average size and distribution of the synthesized $K_2Ti_6O_{13}$ whisker can be controlled by a kind of potassium precursors and reaction temperature and time. The average size of the synthesized $K_2Ti_6O_{13}$ whisker was about in the size range of 500 nm to $2{\mu}m$. The effect of synthesis parameters, such as the molar ratio of KOH to $TiO_2$, pH, reaction temperature and time, are discussed. The synthesized $K_2Ti_6O_{13}$ whisker were characterized by x-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM).

An investigation is reported on the coating of ZnS:Cu,Cl phosphors by $HfO_2$ using atomic layer deposition method. Hafnium oxide films were prepared at the chamber temperature of $280^{\circ}C$ using $Hf[N(CH_3)_2]_4\;and\;O_2$ as precursors and reactant gas, respectively. XPS and ICP-MS analysis showed the surface composition of coated phosphor powder was hafnium oxide. In FE-SEM analysis, the surface morphology of uncoated phosphors became smoother and clearer as the number of ALD cycle increased from 900 to 1800. The photoluminescence intensity for coated phosphors showed $7.3{\sim}13.4%$ higher than that of uncoated. The effect means that the reactive surface is uniformly coated with stable hafnium oxide to reduce the dead surface layer without change of bulk properties and also its absorptance is almost negligible due to ultrathin(nano-scaled) films. The growth rate is about $1.1{\AA}/cycle$.
We report a synthesis of non-toxic InP nanocrystals using non-pyrolytic precursors instead of pyrolytic and unstable tris(trimethylsilyl)phosphine, a popular precursor for synthesis of InP nanocrystals. In this study, InP nanocrystals are successfully synthesized using hexaethyl phosphorous triamide (HPT) and the synthesized InP nanocrystals showed a broad and weak photoluminescence (PL) spectrum. As synthesized InP nanocrystals are subjected to further surface modification process to enhance their stability and photoluminescence. Surface modification of InP nanocrystals is done at $230^{\circ}C$ using 1-dodecanethiol, zinc acetate and fatty acid as sources of ZnS shell. After surface modification, the synthesized InP/ZnS nanocrystals show intense PL spectra centered at the emission wavelength 612 nm through 633 nm. The synthesized InP/ZnS core/shell structure is confirmed with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Inductively Coupled Plasma - Atomic Emission Spectrometer (ICP-AES). After surface modification, InP/ZnS nanocrystals having narrow particle size distribution are observed by Field Emission Transmission Electron Microscope (FE-TEM). In contrast to uncapped InP nanocrystals, InP/ZnS nanocrystals treated with a newly developed surface modified procedure show highly enhanced PL spectra with quantum yield of 47%.

Recently, $Cu_2ZnSn(S_xSe_{1-x})_4$ (CZTSSe) has been received a tremendous attraction as light absorber material in thin film solar cells (TFSCs), because of its earth abundance, inexpensive and non-toxic constituents and versatile material characteristics. Kesterite CZTSSe thin films were synthesized by sulfo-selenization of sputtered Cu/Sn/Zn stacked metallic precursors. The sulfo-selenization of Cu/Sn/Zn stacked metallic precursor thin films has been carried out in a graphite box using rapid thermal annealing (RTA) technique. Annealing process was done under sulfur and selenium vapor pressure using Ar gas at $520^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. The effect of tuning Se/(S+Se) precursor composition ratio on the properties of CZTSSe films has been investigated. The XRD, Raman, FE-SEM and XRF results indicate that the properties of sulfo-selenized CZTSSe thin films strongly depends on the Se/(S+Se) composition ratio. In particular, the CZTSSe TFSCs with Se/(S+Se) = 0.37 exhibits the best power conversion efficiency of 4.83% with $V_{oc}$ of 467 mV, $J_{sc}$ of $18.962mA/cm^2$ and FF of 54%. The systematic changes observed with increasing Se/(S+Se) ratio have been discussed in detail.

In this study, vanadium dioxide was doped with titanium (0~0.5 at %) to improve thermochromic properties. The titanium doped vanadium dioxide (Ti-VO2) particles were prepared via thermolysis process using vanadyl sulfate, ammonium bicarbonate and titianium chloride as precursors. The crystal structure, morphology, chemical bonding and thermochromic properties were investigated by using XRD, FE-SEM, XPS, DSC and UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy. It was found that titanium was successfully doped into the crystal lattice of VO2 and the obtained Ti-VO2 particles have monoclinic structure. With increasing Ti concentration, the particle size and phase transition temperature of Ti-VO2 particles decreased and NIR switching efficiency increased.
Gold catalysts supported on metal-oxides were prepared by co-precipitation using the various metal nitrates and chloroauric acid as precursors, and effect of water addition on the catalytic activity in CO oxidation was investigated. Among the various supported gold catalysts, Au/$Co_{3}O_{4}$ and Au/ZnO catalysts showed the excellent activity for CO oxidation. Water in the reactant gas had a negative effect on the oxidation activity over Au/$Co_{3}O_{4}$ catalysts and a positive effect on that over Au/ZnO, which means the activity depends strongly on the nature of support. It was also confirmed that no significant change in the particle size of gold was observed after reaction both in dry and wet conditions. This fact suggested that the deactivated catalyst due to a carbonate species could be regenerated by water addition in the reactant gas.

In an original effort, this lab attempted to employ polystyrene nanoparticles as a template for the synthesis of ordered and highly porous macroporous $SiO_2$ thin films, utilizing their high combustion temperature and narrow size distribution. However, polystyrene nanoparticle thin films were not obtained due to the low interaction between individual particles and between the particle and silicon substrate. However, polystyrene-polyacrylic acid (PS-AA) colloidal particles of a core-shell structure were synthesized by a one-pot miniemulsion polymerization approach, with hydrophilic polyacrylic acid tails on the particle surface that improved interaction between individual particles and between the particle and silicon substrate. The PS-AA thin films were spin-coated in the thickness ranges from monolayer to approximately $1.0\;{\mu}m$. Using the PS-AA thin films as sacrificial templates, macroporous $SiO_2$ thin films were successfully synthesized by vapor deposition or conventional solution sol-gel infiltration methods. Inspection with field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) showed that the macroporous $SiO_2$ thin films consist of interconnected air balls (~100 nm). Typical macroporous $SiO_2$ thin films showed ultralow refractive indices ranging from 1.098 to 1.138 at 633 nm, according to the infiltration conditions, which were confirmed by spectroscopy ellipsometry (SE) measurements. This research shows how the synthetic control of the macromolecule such as hydrophilic polystyrene nanopaticles and silicate sol precursors innovates the optical properties and processabilities for actual applications.
We fabricated transparent conductive electrodes with silver (Ag) nanofibers by electrospinning process. Ag nanofibers have high aspect ratio and fused junctions which result in low sheet resistance. Electrospinning is a fast and efficient process to fabricate continuous one-dimensional (1D) nanofibers. Ag/polymer ink were prepared in polymer matrix solution by a sol-gel method. Then, Ag/polymer nanofibers precursors are heated at $200{\sim}500^{\circ}C$ in air for 2 h to eliminate partially the polymers. The topographical features of the Ag nanofibers were characterized by FE-SEM, and the electrical property was analyzed through I-V measurement system. Finally, optical property was measured using UV/VIS spectroscopy. The transparent conductive electrodes with Ag nanofibers exhibited a sheet resistance (Rs) of $250{\Omega}/sq$ at a transparency (T) of 83%. Transparent conductive films, contain the Ag nanofibers as conductive materials, have good electrical, optical, and mechanical properties. Therefore, it is expected to be useful for the application of flexible display in the future.
