A Study on Job Stress of Aircraft Composite Material Part Manufacturing Workers (항공기 복합소재 부품 제조업 종사자의 직무 스트레스 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the job stress factors of aircraft composite material part manufacturing workers using survey based on 'Job stress factors evaluation tool for Koreans' that was developed by KOSHA in 2003. Two hundred and fifty workers participated in this study, and among them 204 responses were analyzed for this study due to the unreliability and insincerity of responses. The eight job stress factors which are physical environment, job autonomy, job insecurity, organizational system, workplace culture, unfair compensation, relationship conflict, and job requirement were analyzed. The results showed that the stress level of the six job stress factors which are physical environment, job autonomy, job insecurity, organizational system, workplace culture, unfair compensation was relatively higher than that of other industry workers. Generally, all eight job stress factors showed higher stress with temporary workers than with permanent workers, and especially job autonomy, job insecurity, organizational system, and unfair compensation factors showed statistically significant differences (p<0.05). Since the temporary workers are insecure with their job, weak position in organization, having little self-control for the job and lower pay level than that of permanent workers though the job is as same as permanent workers', the stress level of above job stress factors would be much higher than that of the other factors. The group of unsatisfactory with workplace showed higher job stress than group of satisfactory with workplace in all job stress factors, as expected, at the statistically significance level (p<0.05). From the results of this study, the work loss due to the job stress could be prevented, and accurate stress factors could be removed at the workplace. Also the job stress management program can be implemented to improve the work efficiency and the workers' quality of life.

A Study on the Job Stress Factors according to the Working Years of School Food Service Nutritionists in Gangwon Area (강원 지역 학교 급식 영양사의 근무 년수에 따른 직무스트레스 요인에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate job stress factors of school food service nutritionists according to the number of years they have worked. The subjects of this survey included 125 nutritionists (69 from full-time employees and 56 from part-time nutritionists) from elementary school, middle school, and high school in the Gangwon area. The results showed that stress related to duty was the top job stress factor, followed by environment-related stress, personal stress, organization-related stress and stress caused by human relations. In terms of the degree of stress, part-time nutritionists have more stress compared to full-time nutritionists. This was especially true for nutritionists that had been employed for one year. In this case, the degree of stress was much higher than long time employed nutritionists. In terms of how to deal with job stress, school nutritionists eliminated stress directly (with direct countermeasures). In order to deal with stress, workers expected stable employment such as pay (wages), promotions, etc. In particular, part-time school nutritionists had stronger expectations. When correlation between job stress factors were examined, environment-related, duty-related, organization-related, human relations-related and personal stress were all shown to be mutually related.

The Effect of Hospital Environment on Employee레s Job Stress (병원 근로자의 직무스트레스 현황과 요인분석)

  • This study aims to explore the importance of job stress for hospital employees and psychosocial risk factors of their job stress. 1,890 survey questionnaires collected from 14 hospitals are used for the analysis. The study results shows that stress is the most important risk factor perceived by hospital workers. Also stress-related symptoms and diseases are perceived to occur most frequently among hospital employees. The multiple logistic regression analysis shows age, working hours, shiftwork, job demand, decision-latitude and social support from supervisor and colleagues affect stress level of hospital employees.

Effect of Nursing Information on ICU Patient's Environmental Stress, Anxiety and Comfort (간호정보제공이 집중치료실 환자의 환경적 스트레스, 불안 및 안위에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to exam the effects of nursing information about intensive care unit environment on ICU patient's environmental stress, anxiety and comfort. Methods: A non-equivalent control group with non-synchronized quasi-experimental research design was used. Participants were 60 (control 30, experimental 30) patients who admitted at ICU in one hospital in Gangneung. Experimental group was provided with nursing information about intensive care unit environment. To avoid contamination of the experiment, data for the control group were collected prior to the experimental group. Paired t-test, t-test, chi-square test were used to analyze the data using the SPSS WIN 19.0 Program. Results: ICU environmental stress (t=-.089, p=.045) and anxiety (t=-5.65, p<.001) were significantly more reduced than before intervention. Also, comfort (t=-2.98, p=.036) was significantly more improved than before intervention. Conclusion: It confirmed that nursing information on ICU environment is effective in reducing environmental stress, anxiety and improving comfort in ICU patients.

Oxygen Supersaturation in Korean Streams as a Stress Factor to Fish (어류 스트레스 요인으로서 우리나라 하천의 산소과포화 실태)

  • Abnormal dissolved oxygen concentration in aquatic habitat, both depletion and supersaturation, can be stress factor to aquatic animals. In this study the nationwide distribution of oxygen supersaturation was analyzed for three categories of streams (43 urban streams, 15 rural streams, and 14 forest streams) by using monitoring network data of the Korean Ministry of Environment. From the distribution analysis 30% of urban streams showed hyperoxic condition of eutrophic level, while no forest stream showed hyperoxic condition. The physiological effect of hyperoxia on fish was examined using two species of fish Zacco koreanus, which resulted in higher concentration of a stress hormone (cortisol) in fish exposed to hyperoxic concentration (196%) of oxygen. This study shows that hyperoxic condition is ubiquitous in urban and rural Korean streams, and it can be a stress factor to aquatic animals.

Thermal and Organic Chemical Stress Responsive Genes in Soft Coral, Scleronephthya gracillimum

  • The extensive isolation of genes responsive to stressful conditions from a soft coral Scleronephthya gracillimum was described. Soft coral colonies were exposed to thermal and chemical stressors to induce the expression of stress related genes. Differentially expressed genes by natural or anthropogenic stressors were identified by construction of standard and stress exposed-paired subtractive cDNA library. Thirty-two and thirty-seven kinds of candidate genes were identified from thermal or benzo[a]pyrene stress exposed group, respectively, which are associated with cell cycle, cell signaling, transcription, translation, protein metabolism, and other cellular functions. The expected function of each gene was described. The isolated and identified differentially expressed genes have a great potential to identify environmental stressors in global environmental changes and could act as molecular biomarkers for biological responses against environmental changes. Finally, it may open a new paradigm on soft coral health assessment.

Effects of Forest Healing Program on Cultural Adaptation Stress and Psychological Wellbeing of Foreign Workers

  • As the number of foreign workers increases in Korea, people's interest in their adaptation to this society has also increased. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a forest-healing program on foreign workers' cultural adaptation stress and psychological wellbeing. The experiment was conducted in a recreation forest located in Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do. The subjects who participated in this study included 40 foreign workers (16 males, 24 females). The experiment was conducted for three days and two nights from June 26 to 28, 2019. The forest healing program was composed of activities that can enhance immunity and restore physical and mental health by utilizing various healing environmental factors such as landscapes, sunlight, anion and oxygen in forest. The independent sample t-test was conducted to examine changes in cultural adaptation stress and psychological well-being before and after the program. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program. As a result, cultural adaptation stress was statistically significantly reduced in sub-factors including discrimination experience, language conflict and legal status. Psychological wellbeing improved in all the surveyed sub-factors such as self-confidence, ego, immersion, and joy. The results of this study are expected to be used as basic data for reducing the stress foreign workers experience from cultural adaptation and restoring their psychological wellbeing in the future.

Osmoregulation and mRNA Expression of a Heat Shock Protein 68 and Glucose-regulated Protein 78 in the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas in Response to Salinity Changes

  • Stress-inducible proteins may function in part as molecular chaperones, protecting cells from damage due to various stresses and helping to maintain homeostasis. We examined the mRNA expression patterns of a 68-kDa heat shock protein (HSP68) and 78-kDa glucose-regulated protein (GRP78) in relation to physiological changes in Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas under osmotic stress. Expression of HSP68 and GRP78 mRNA in the gill significantly increased until 48 h in a hypersaline environment (HRE) and 72 h in a hyposaline environment (HOE), and then decreased. Osmolality and the concentrations of $Na^+$, $Cl^-$, and $Ca^{2+}$ in the hemolymph of HRE oysters significantly increased until 72 h (the highest value) and then gradually decreased; in HOE oysters, these values significantly decreased until 72 h (the lowest value), and then increased. These results suggest that osmolality and $Na^+$, $Cl^-$, and $Ca^{2+}$ concentrations were stabilized by HSP68 and GRP78, and indicate that these two stress-induced proteins play an important role in regulating the metabolism and protecting the cells of the Pacific oysters exposed to salinity changes.

Critical thinking disposition, stress of clinical practice and clinical competence of nursing students (간호학생의 비판적 사고성향과 임상실습 스트레스 및 임상실습수행능력)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify the relationship among Critical Thinking Disposition (CTD), stress of clinical practice and clinical competence in Korean nursing students. Methods: Participants were 407 baccalaureate nursing students (3rd and 4th grades) in Korea. Variables included CTD, stress of clinical practice, clinical competence, and demographic variables. Data was analyzed by frequencies, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression. Results: Clinical competence positively correlated with CTD, but negatively correlated with stress of clinical practice. The regression model explained 25.6% of clinical competence. The significant predictors of clinical competence were intellectual eagerness, intellectual fairness in CTD, conflict with patients, and clinical environment in stress of clinical practice. Conclusions: CTD and stress of clinical practice contribute to nursing student's clinical competence. Therefore, efforts to encourage nursing student's CTD, increase stress management skills, especially in conflict with patients, and build a supportive clinical environment should be made to strengthen clinical competence.

  • Effective for the operation of fire department management of occupational stress than what organizational members perceive and to identify factors that would cause job stress. Dysfunction caused by job stress or minimize that by eliminating the stress factor that can enhance organizational effectiveness research is needed. The results of the study the impact on job stress of firefighters of the psychological environment of the most influential factor is the variable. Next, organizational culture, physical environment, orderly, and administration and human relations were not significant statistically.
