  • Educational games offer an opportunity to engage and inspire students to take an interest in every subject material in school. The "fun" obtain when playing games become a trigger for the use of games in learning. However, there are doubts whether the players actually learn while they are having fun. Vidyanusa is an Online Mathematics Education Game being developed by Crayonpedia Education Ecosystem in Indonesia. The learning goal of Vidyanusa is to engage junior high school students in learning mathematics. In this paper, we design the Vidyanusa game material Functions and Relations by using Balanced Design Approach. This approach has three models in succession; the Content Model outlines the purpose of the game, the Task Model maps out the mission, and the Evidence Model outlines student measurement. This paper will then discusses the quality of games produced in term of Usability factor for effective results and objective. The measurement of the game was carried out based on International Standard ISO/IEC 9126-1 FDIS about Software Quality Product.

  • Recently, a sound wave phase meter (SWPM) that can directly measure the pressure waveform of sound waves in free space has been reported, and the development of educational experimental equipment using this meter is in progress. One of the main advantages of using this meter is that wavelengths can be obtained directly from the crests and troughs of the measured pressure waveforms in space without expensive equipment. However, there are times when the measurement wavelength does not exactly match the actual wavelength value, and the pressure waveform differs from the actual shape. This study was conducted to identify and analyze the causes of such errors occurring in SWPM. As a result, it was found that wavelength errors occur when the propagation direction of sound waves and the measurement direction of SWPM do not coincide. It has also been found that an error in the pressure waveform is generated when the induction and sound wave signal outputs from the SWPM interfere with each other to produce a composite signal. We have shown that we can develop educational experimental equipment by suggesting ways to reduce such errors.

  • This study identified essential areas of student satisfaction by presenting questions concerning each educational area. The measurement tool of this study was developed based on a literature review, and its validity and reliability were verified through qualitative research and exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. To measure student satisfaction in university, we developed a tool comprising seven areas: curriculum and instruction; student advising, educational environment, student support, campus life, university image, and administrative services. A total of 54 questions were prepared, and 7 factors were derived. Cronbach's alpha was 0.970 for all questions and ranged from 0.70 to 0.93 for each factor. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis were GFI 0.830, CFI 0.916, TLI 0.910, RMR 0.047, and RMSEA 0.047, which confirmed the suitability of the research model. Moreover, the convergent validity showed that the questions in this tool consistently described the component areas. Therefore, the research tools developed in this study were found to be suitable for measuring student satisfaction.

  • The current research aimed to ascertain the effectiveness of the early intervention program based on electronic games in developing the visual perception of children with intellectual disabilities within the age group of (2-5) years, using the quasi-experimental approach with one group, and the study sample consisted of (11) children with disabilities. Simple and medium intellectuals enrolled in the early intervention program at the Successful Communication Center for Day Care in Makkah Al-Mukarramah and were deliberately selected. To achieve the research objectives, the researchers prepared and applied the visual perception scale after ensuring its validity and stability. Three electronic games were also designed and applied to the sample for (17) sessions. The results showed the effectiveness of the electronic games program in developing the visual perception of children with intellectual disabilities within the age group (2-5) years and maintaining this improvement over time. Where the results showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level (α = 0.05) between the grades of the group children in the pre and post-measurements on the visual perception skills scale for children with intellectual disabilities in the post-measurement after applying the program, in favor of the post measurement. The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences at the level (α = 0.05) between the grades of the group children in the two post and follow-up measurements on the visual perception skills scale for children with intellectual disabilities in the follow-up measurement which indicates the long-term impact of the program. The researchers recommend the necessity of activating educational programs based on various electronic games to develop the visual perception of children with intellectual disabilities and employ them effectively in the educational process for children with intellectual disabilities.

  • The epistemological obstacles in the area learning of plane figure can be categorized into two types that is closely related to an attribute of measurement and is strongly connected with unit square. First, reasons for the obstacle related to an attribute of measurement are that 'area' is in conflict. with 'length' and the definition of 'plane figure' is not accordance with that of 'measurement'. Second, the causes of epistemological obstacles related to unit square are that unit square is not a basic unit to students and students have little understanding of the conception of the two dimensions. Thus, To overcome the obstacle related to an attribute of measurement, students must be able to distinguish between 'area' and 'length' through a variety of measurement activities. And, the definition of area needs to be redefined with the conception of measurement. Also, the textbook should make it possible to help students to induce the formula with the conception of 'array' and facilitate the application of formula in an integrated way. Meanwhile, To overcome obstacles related to unit square, authentic subject matter of real life and the various shapes of area need to be introduced in order for students to practice sufficient activities of each measure stage. Furthermore, teachers should seek for the pedagogical ways such as concrete manipulable activities to help them to grasp the continuous feature of the conception of area. Finally, it must be study on epistemological obstacles for good understanding. As present the cause and the teaching implication of epistemological obstacles through the research of epistemological obstacles, it must be solved.

  • The image of scientists that learners have has an important impact on science learning and on science-related career choices. The image of the scientist was mainly analyzed using the drawing analysis method. Drawing analysis has limitations on drawing, mainly analyzing the external image of scientist. Science teachers' images of scientists and their perception of science-related careers are important factors in students' science learning and science-related career choices. However, research on science teachers is lacking. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the usefulness of measurement tools by developing and applying a scientist image measurement tool through the semantic analysis method, and to discuss the educational implications of the research by investigating the image of scientists and science-related professions of secondary pre-service science teachers. The subjects of the study were 79 male and 55 female for a total of 134 students in the 2nd and 3rd grades majoring in science education at a teachers college. The results of the research show that the image measurement tool consisted of four components: 'ability,' 'evaluation,' 'activity,' and 'emotion,' in 24 items. As a result of applying the developed measurement tool to the secondary pre-service science teachers, the image of the 'evaluation,' 'ability,' and 'activity' elements of the scientist were high, but 'emotion' was low. There was no statistically significant difference according to gender. It is found that science-related career perceive them as 'hard,' 'professional,' 'smart,' and 'complex.' In particular, male students perceive themselves as 'hard and difficult' while female students perceive it as 'challenging and complicated'. Finally, we discussed the usefulness of using the image measurement tool of the scientists, the image of the scientists of the secondary pre-service science teachers, and the educational implications on science-related career.

  • While research projects and reports on values in mathematics education increased in the international community over the years, little has been known about the topic and research findings in South Korea. The purpose of this study was to analyze the trends of value research in mathematics education focused on the "mathematical values" and "mathematics educational values" as defined by Bishop (1996) through a systematic review of the literature. A total of 66 research papers related to value research were analyzed in terms of the following four areas: research period, projects, target research population, and research method. The results of this study showed that the value research that was carried out was project-driven. There was an increase in both the number of papers published and countries that were studied, which encouraged the continuous expansion of the field. Furthermore, the topic of mathematics educational values was studied more than mathematical values. It was also observed that the survey method, among others, was frequently used to explore mathematics educational values of middle school teachers. Finally, research methods related to the measurement of value were gradually refined over time. Based on these results, this paper describes implications to conduct and advance value research in South Korea in various aspects, including in the field of mathematics education.

  • The objective of this study is to find the most effective educational method on Sex and AIDS/HIV among young people in Korea. The number of people with HIV amounts to 1,224 as of Sep. 2000, and is increasing continuously, especially among young people(National Institute of Health, 2000). In setting up the policy of health education on Sex and AIDS, the criteria should be the effectiveness. By two-stage cluster sampling, 4,713 students were selected from among the 19,093 students from 44 middle and high schools and divided into three groups and taken the education with three different methods( 〈lecture with slides show〉, 〈lecture without any material〉 and 〈lecture through broadcasting system〉) by the same lecturer with the same contents for about 50 minutes. To compare the effects of education by methods, the tests on the AIDS knowledge, AIDS attitude on AIDS and Sexuality attitudes with self-administered questionnaire were implemented three times, that is, ‘before’, ‘right after’ and ‘2 weeks later’ of the education. As to the degrees of change of AIDS knowledge, AIDS attitudes, Sexuality attitudes and subjective evaluation of the education, 〈lecture with slides show〉 was the most effective, 〈lecture without any material〉 was the second and 〈lecture through broadcasting system〉 was the least effective, respectively. In the cost-effectiveness analysis using the results of this study, 〈lecture with slides show〉 turned out to be the most effective, and 〈lecture through broadcasting system〉 was the second and 〈lecture without any material〉 was least effective. From these results, it is suggested that 〈lecture with slides show〉 is more effective health educational methods on Sex and AIDS than 〈lecture without any material〉 or 〈lecture through broadcasting system〉.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the characteristics of the gender difference with the results of National Assessment of Educational Achievement(NAEA) from 2004 to 2006, which subjects are 3rd, 9th and 10th graders. First, we analyzed the characteristics of the achievement by the scale scores, according to years, achievement standards, grades. Second, we surveyed the number of items and ratio which male/female prevails and its characteristics according to grades, difference levels, content areas(i.e., numbers and operations, figures, measurement, probability and statistics, letters and formulas, patterns and function). Furthermore, we perform in-depth analysis of the items which gender difference in correct response proportion is more than 7% and analyze the cause of gender difference of achievement. This paper provides large valid data about gender difference by the results of NAEA. It can give suggestions with regard to policy making.
