  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the concept of composition of educational service quality through two integrated research methods of open questionnaires and focus group interviews for college students majoring in beauty. Participants in the study majored in beauty at 2-year and 4-year universities nationwide. The enrolled students were set as a population, and 250 people were adopted as a random sampling method and used for the survey. The series of results are as follows. First, as a result of inductive content analysis of open questionnaires, the educational service quality of beauty majors was derived into five areas: major knowledge, educational quality, professor-student intimacy, student needs reflection, usability, curriculum composition, environmental efficiency, educational equipment, and reputation. Second, as a result of the focus group interview, inductive content analysis was more reasonably pointed out and derived in depth. As a result of this study, it is believed that it can be used as basic data for the development of measurement tools for educational service quality of beauty majors.

  • This study was conducted to help establish the status of comparative education as an academic discipline by investigating its relationship with educational evaluation. Comparative education as a subfield of education covers other areas of study in education, while educational evaluation is a study of methodology. First, international comparative study was investigated, and recent methodologies in educational evaluation were introduced. International comparative study started in 1960's, and is being expanded. The participating countries hope for better education by comparing their educational curricula and practices with others. For international comparative studies, a differential item functioning analysis as a multigroup analysis can provide information on what sociocultural factors other than the construct are affecting the measurement results. The study dataset has a hierarchical structure so that multilevel item response theory is suitable to obtain multidimensional national profiles. Although there have been methodological advances in educational evaluation, the methods are not available in comparative education. In order to reduce the gap, scholars in educational evaluation should try to make the methods easily available, while those in comparative education should try to use the exact and precise methods in their studies.

  • This study presents how two eighth grade students generated their own algorithms in the context of fraction measurement division situations by modifications of unit-segmenting schemes. Teaching experiment was adopted as a research methodology and part of data from a year-long teaching experiment were used for this report. The present study indicates that the two participating students' construction of reciprocal relationship between the referent whole [one] and the divisor by using their unit- segmenting schemes and its strategic use finally led the students to establish an algorithm for fraction measurement division problems, which was on par with the traditional invert-and-multi- ply algorithm for fraction division. The results of the study imply that teachers' instruction based on understanding student-generated algorithms needs to be accounted as one of the crucial characteristics of good mathematics teaching.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of personal and parental variables on perfectionism of gifted children. The study subjects were 113 gifted children who were taking a special educational program at D academy of Gifted Education, located in the city of Taegu. They were in the 5th and 6th grades at elementary school. The instruments of measurement were Perfectionism Scale, Achievement Goal Scale, and Parenting Behavior Scale. The major findings of this study are as follows 1) The gifted children's perfectionism didn't have any significant difference according to nx, grade, and parent's educational level. 2) There were significant correlations between the gifted children's perfectionism and achievement goal. 3) There were significant correlations between the gifted children's perfectionism and parent's perfectionism. 4) There were significant correlations between the gifted children's perfectionism and parenting behavior.5) Achievement goal affected perfectionism.

  • This study was designed to develop investigation- and exploration- activities on Euclidean geometry with an exploratory type software, Geometer's Sketchpad, and to gain insights into the geometric reasoning abilities of college students working with the software. A package of Euclidean geometric activities with GSP was developed and four college students worked on the several activities with GSP and their geometric reasoning process were analyzed. Results indicated that GSP helped students solve problems in the several ways: to make conjectures and discover theorems by providing precise construction and measurement; to discover their proofs by providing the visual images and its manipulation; and to make students easily apply "what-if"strategies and expand and deepen their activities. Students' geometric reasoning was highly depended on analytic methods and their abilities with synthetic methods were shown very limited.

  • The east-asian mathematics is highly evaluated in mathematics education. In this paper, we search the geometric problems of east-asian mathematics in high school textbooks and various examinations and investigate how to use such problems. We also confirm that the geometric problems of east-asian mathematics can be widely used as real life materials for introducing new mathematical topics, real life applications for mathematical topics, and valuable source for mathematical discourse.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the latest evidence for interventions involving adolescent newlyweds, and the feasibility of premarital coaching (PMC). Methods: A narrative literature review design carried out through related studies was used for the present literature review. A diverse search from several databases was performed to create a critical appraisal and to develop a more integrated model for the PMC program. Studies that empirical, written in English, peer-reviewed, and published during 2008~2017 were included. Results: Six articles were selected for the review. The principal findings identified three major themes including underage period as a high-risk for marriage, development tasks of the newly married spouse, parenting self-efficacy and the psycho-educational approach of PMC to enhance parenting knowledge, skills, and readiness. Conclusion: It was found that content of PMC as the preparation of underage married couples were formulated based on coaching technic, various spouse and parenting educations, and adjusted based on couples's preferences. Rigorous studies with measurement of long-term retentions are needed.

  • Kindergarten children are engaged in the age of physical immaturity as well as the rapid growth. The indoor air contaminants that are proved to affect even the full grown adults are obvious to have no little influence to immature small children in a growth period. In May 2004, for the multi purpose facilities and newly constructed apartments, the Ministry of Environment announced "Indoor Air Quality Control Law for the Multi Purpose Facility," which made the interests to be focused in the urgent understanding of current condition and preparation of measures about the indoor air pollution. In Dec 2005, the law was revised to obligatorily notify the amount of Formaldehyde and Volatile Organic Compounds in the case of newly constructed apartments with more than 100 houses. However, since the kindergarten takes none of the classifications, even the current condition is not grasped although it is directly connected to the health of growing children. Therefore, the study aims to analyze indoor air pollution of one selected kindergarten in Incheon city.

  • The relationship between home environment variables for infants and toddlers and the nature of primary caregivers were examined in the present study. The purpose of the study was to explore the possibility of home stimulation deprivation when infants were not cared by their own mothers. Primary caregivers were classified into mothers, blood related adults, and unrelated adults. The home environment was assessed with the Korean version of HOME (Home Observation for Measurement of the Environment) by means of interview and observation. The subjects of this study were 126 infants aged 3 to 36 months and their primary caregiver, adults who provided more than 8 hours day-time care for infants at home. The results were as follows : 1) The primary caregiver had an effect on the infants' home environmental stimulation. That is, the group of mothers as primary caregivers had the highest HOME scores, the second highest were blood related adults, and the unrelated adults were the last. 2) There were no sex differences in HOME scores. 3) There were significant relationships between the educational level of the caregiver and HOME. That is, the higher educational levels showed higher HOME scores.
