  • We have studied the spectral narrowing characteristics of the tunable Ti:sapphire laser pumped by the second harmonic generation of Nd:YAG laser. Ti:sapphire laser has uniform excitation distribution by both-side end pumping. We have controlled the angle of grating linearly and achieved the continuous selection of wavelength in the broad range from 705 to 835 nm. The output energy of $380{\mu}J$ at 790 nm. the spectral linewidth of $0.13cm_{-1}$ and the beam divergence of 1.2 mrad have been obtained. The wavelength range with power more than 50% of maximum output was 730-825 nm.825 nm.

  • In this paper, behaviors of photonic crystal (PC) radiative structures and antenna arrays have been compared for two types of uniform and binomial excitations. Appropriate duality has been shown between them. These results can be generalized to other types of excitation and arrangement of photonic crystal radiative arrays such as linear, planar and circular arrays of three dimensional (3D) photonic crystal termination resonators. Using these results in designing photonic circuits has some advantages for shaping a particular radiative beam at the photonic crystal exit, for instance reducing the divergence angle of the main lobe in order to enhance the directivity, for better coupling, or for splitting the emitted beam, for dividing the output beam to the next devices in photonic integrated circuits (PIC). For analysis and simulation of the photonic crystal structures, the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method has been employed.

  • To calculate the attitude in ARS(Attitude Reference System) using 3 gyros and 3 accelerometers, gyro drift must be compensated with accelerometer to avoid divergence of attitude error. Kalman filter is most popular method to integrate those two sensor outputs. In this paper, new Kalman filtering method is proposed for roll and pitch attitude estimation. New states are defined to make linear equation and algorithm for changing Kalman filter parameters is proposed to ignore disturbances of acceleration. This algorithm can be easily applied to low cost ARS.

  • In order to investigate the design method for a micro centrifugal compressor, which is the most important component of an ultra micro gas turbine, an impeller having the outer diameter of 20mm was designed, manufactured and tested. The designed rotational speed is 500,000 rpm and the impeller has a fully 3-dimensional shape. The impeller was rotated at 250,000 rpm in the present study. The experimental results of the tested compressor with the vaned and the vaneless diffusers were compared. It was found that the vaned diffuser attained the higher flow rate than the vaneless diffuser at the maximum pressure ratio. In addition the maximum pressure ratio was higher for the diffuser having a larger diffuser divergence angle at the high flow rate. These results were compared with those obtained by the prediction method used at the design stage.

  • The best simulation condition for the fiber collimator that uses ball lenses was investigated. This kind of fiber collimator can be used in a Micro-Optical-Cross-Connects(MOXC). MOXC is composed of collimating ball lenses, micro mirrors and single-mode fibers. In order to design a MOXC, it is very important to calculate beam path, beam radius, divergence angle that determines the insertion loss of the MOXC. Since the beam profile from the fiber facet is not exact Gaussian profile, it was found that the simulation condition in which beam waist exists on the fiber facet, ignoring Numerical Aperture(NA), gives best agreement with the experimental results. Beam radii were measured with conventional knife edge method.

  • We study chaotic motion in a nonlinear laminated composite plate under subsonic fluid flow and a simultaneous external load in this paper. We derive equations of motion of the plate using the von-$K{\acute{a}}rm{\acute{a}}n^{\prime}s$ hypothesis and the Hamilton's principle. Galerkin's approach is adopted as the solution method. We then conduct a divergence analysis to obtain critical velocities of the transient flow. Melnikov's integral approach is used to find the critical parameters in which chaos takes place. Effects of different parameters including the aspect ratio, plate material and the ply angle in laminates on the critical flow speed are investigated. In a parametric study, we show that how the linear and nonlinear stiffness of the plate and the load frequency and amplitude would influence the chaotic behavior of the plate.

  • High-resolution numerical study is carried out to investigate the flame stability of the turbulent supersonic combustion in a Dual-Combustion Ramjet (DCR). The auto-ignition in a shear layer between hydrogen/carbon-monoxide syngas and air was studied at elevated enthalpy condition. Comparison of a constant area combustor and a combustor with a small divergence angle shows that the supersonic combustion has a characteristics of the lifted flame and its stability is influenced significantly by the compressibility.

  • We simulate the light transmission through an extremely small nanoscale aperture having a 10 nm diameter punctured in a metal film positioned at the center of a plasmonic bull's eye grating. A considerable directive emission of transmitted light with a divergence angle of 5.7 degrees was observed at $10{\mu}m$ from the nanohole opening at the frequency of surface plasmon polariton excitation, an confirmed by measuring the distance dependent transmission amplitude. Observations of the electric field in cross-sectional, near-field, and far-field views near-field enhancement associated with the surface plasmon excitation, and the interference of the electric field light through the nanohole in the near-field region is responsible for such a considerable directive emission.

  • This paper presents the dynamic stability study of laminated composite plates with different force combinations and aspect ratios. Optimum non-diverging stacking is obtained for certain loading combination and aspect ratio. In addition, the stability force is maximized for a definite operating frequency. A dynamic version of the principle of virtual work for laminated composites is used to obtain force-frequency relation. Since dynamic stiffness governs the divergence or flutter, an efficient optimization method is necessary for the response functional and the relevant constraints. In this way, a model based on the ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm is proposed to search for the proper stacking. The ACO algorithm is used since it treats with large number of dynamic stability parameters. Governing equations are formulated using classic laminate theory (CLT) and von-Karman plate technique. Load-frequency relations are explicitly obtained for fundamental and secondary flutter modes of simply supported composite plate with arbitrary aspect ratio, stacking and boundary load, which are used in optimization process. Obtained results are compared with the finite element method results for validity and accuracy convince. Results revealed that the optimum stacking with stable dynamic response and maximum critical load is in angle-ply mode with almost near-unidirectional fiber orientations for fundamental flutter mode. In addition, short plates behave better than long plates in combined axial-shear load case regarding stable oscillation. The interaction of uniaxial and shear forces intensifies the instability in long plates than short ones which needs low-angle layup orientations to provide required dynamic stiffness. However, a combination of angle-ply and cross-ply stacking with a near-square aspect ratio is appropriate for the composite plate regarding secondary flutter mode.

  • The exposure system is a device that transfers a circuit pattern to a desired location. To display patterns on a substrate without deforming the optical characteristics, the characteristics of the optical exposure system are very important. Therefore, to form a microcircuit pattern, a small divergence angle should impinge on the irradiation area. Also, since the light from the source must react uniformly with the photosensitizer, it must have high luminance efficiency and uniformity of illumination. In this paper a parabolic reflector and an aspherical lens were designed to solve the problem of narrow-angle implementation, and it was confirmed by simulation analysis after their arrangement that the beam angle, uniformity, and maximum illuminance satisfied the target performance.
