This paper studies Bayesian test of homogeneity in contingency tables made by discretizing a continuous variable. Sometimes when we are considering events of interest in small area setup, we can think of discretization approaches about the continuous variable. If we properly discretize the continuous variable, we can find invisible relationships between areas (groups) and a continuous variable of interest. The proper discretization of the continuous variable can support the alternative hypothesis of the homogeneity test in contingency tables even if the null hypothesis was not rejected through k-sample tests involving one-way ANOVA. In other words, the proportions of variables with a particular level can vary from group to group by the discretization. If we discretize the the continuous variable, it can be treated as an analysis of the contingency table. In this case, the chi-squared test is the most commonly employed method. However, further discretization gives rise to more cells in the table. As a result, the count in the cells becomes smaller and the accuracy of the test becomes lower. To prevent this, we can consider the Bayesian approach and apply it to the setup of the homogeneity test.

A new discretization method for calculating a sampled-data representation of a nonlinear continuous-time system is proposed. The proposed method is based on the well-known Taylor series expansion and zero-order hold (ZOH) assumption. The mathematical structure of the new discretization method is analyzed. On the basis of this structure, a sampled-data representation of a nonlinear system with a time-delayed input is derived. This method is applied to obtain a sampled-data representation of a non-affine nonlinear system, with a constant input time delay. In particular, the effect of the time discretization method on key properties of nonlinear control systems, such as equilibrium properties and asymptotic stability, is examined. 'Hybrid' discretization schemes that result from a combination of the 'scaling and squaring' technique with the Taylor method are also proposed, especially under conditions of very low sampling rates. Practical issues associated with the selection of the method parameters to meet CPU time and accuracy requirements are examined as well. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated using a nonlinear system with a time-delayed non-affine input.
Delta-form-based methods for solving high order spatial discretization schemes are introduced into the reactor SN transport equation. Due to the nature of the delta-form, the final numerical accuracy only depends on the residuals on the right side of the discrete equations and have nothing to do with the parts on the left side. Therefore, various high order spatial discretization methods can be easily adopted for only the transport term on the right side of the discrete equations. Then the simplest step or other robust schemes can be adopted to discretize the increment on the left hand side to ensure the good iterative convergence. The delta-form framework makes the sweeping and iterative strategies of various high order spatial discretization methods be completely the same with those of the traditional SN codes, only by adding the residuals into the source terms. In this paper, the flux limiter method and weighted essentially non-oscillatory scheme are used for the verification purpose to only show the advantages of the introduction of delta-form-based solving methods and other high order spatial discretization methods can be also easily extended to solve the SN transport equations. Numerical solutions indicate the correctness and effectiveness of delta-form-based solving method.

In this research the development of unstructured grid discretization solution techniques is presented. The purpose is to describe such a conservative discretization scheme applied for experimental validation work. The objective of this paper is to better establish the effects of mesh generation techniques on velocity fields and particle deposition patterns to determine the optimal aerodynamic characteristics. In order to achieve the objective, the mesh surface discretization approaches used the VLA prototype manufacturing tolerance zone of the outer surface. There were 3 schemes for this discretization study implementation. They are solver validation, grid convergence study and surface tolerance study. A solver validation work was implemented for the simple 2D and 3D model to get the optimum solver for the VLA model. A grid convergence study was also conducted with a different growth factor and cell spacing, the amount of mesh can be controlled. With several amount of mesh we can get the converged amount of mesh compared to experimental data. The density around surface model can be calculated by controlling the number of element in every important and sensitive surface area of the model. The solver validation work result provided the optimum solver to employ in the VLA model analysis calculation. The convergence study approach result indicated that the aerodynamic trend characteristic was captured smooth enough compared with the experimental data. During the surface tolerance scheme, it could catch the aerodynamics data of the experiment data. The discretization studies made the validation work more efficient way to achieve the purpose of this paper.
Most of supervised teaming algorithms could be applied after that continuous variables are transformed to categorical ones at the preprocessing stage in order to avoid the difficulty of processing continuous variables. This preprocessing stage is called global discretization, uses the class distribution list called bins. But, when data are large and the range of the variable to be discretized is very large, many sorting and merging should be performed to produce a single bin because most of global discretization methods need a single bin. Also, if new data are added, they have to perform discretization from scratch to construct categories influenced by the data because the existing methods perform discretization in batch mode. This paper proposes a method that extracts sample points and performs discretization from these sample points in order to solve these problems. Because the approach in this paper does not require merging for producing a single bin, it is efficient when large data are needed to be discretized. In this study, an experiment using real and synthetic datasets was made to compare the proposed method with an existing one.

A general discretization method for input-driven nonlinear continuous time-delay systems is proposed, which can be applied to general order sampling hold assumptions. It is based on a combination of Taylor series expansion and the theories of sampling and hold. The mathematical structure of the new discretization scheme is introduced in detail. The performance of the proposed discretization procedure is evaluated by two degrees of systems. The results show that the proposed scheme is applicable to control systems.
A new discretization method for nonlinear system with time-delay is proposed. It is based on the well-known Taylor series expansion and the zero-order hold (ZOH) assumption. We know that a discretization of linear system can be obtained with the ZOH assumption and within the sampling interval. A similar line of thinking is available in nonlinear case. The mathematical structure of the new discretization method is explored and under the structure, the sampled-data representation of nonlinear system including time-delay is computed. Provided that the discrete form of the single input nonlinear system with time-delay is derived, this result is easily extended to nonlinear system with multi-input time-delay. For simplicity two inputs are considered in this study. It is enough to generalize that of multiple inputs. Finally, the time-discretization of non-affine nonlinear system with time-delay is investigated for apply all nonlinear system
In this paper, we investigate a priori error estimates and superconvergence of varitional discretization for nonlinear parabolic optimal control problems with control constraints. The time discretization is based on the backward Euler method. The state and the adjoint state are approximated by piecewise linear functions and the control is not directly discretized. We derive a priori error estimates for the control and superconvergence between the numerical solution and elliptic projection for the state and the adjoint state and present a numerical example for illustrating our theoretical results.

In this paper, we propose a new scheme for the discretization of nonlinear systems using Taylor series expansion and the zero-order hold assumption. This scheme is applied to the sampled-data representation of a non-affine nonlinear system with constant input time-delay. The mathematical expressions of the discretization scheme are presented and the ability of the algorithm is tested for some of the examples. The proposed scheme provides a finite-dimensional representation for nonlinear systems with time-delay enabling existing controller design techniques to be applied to them. For all the case studies, various sampling rates and time-delay values are considered.

A new discretization algorithm for nonlinear systems with delayed input is proposed. The algorithm is represented by Taylor series expansion and ZOH assumption. This method is applied to the sampled-data representation of a nonlinear system with the time-delay input. Additionally, the delay in input is time varying and its amplitude is bounded. The maximum time-delay in input is assumed to be two sampling periods. The mathematical expressions of the discretization method are presented and the ability of the algorithm is tested for some of the examples. The computer simulation proves the proposed algorithm discretizes the nonlinear system with the variable time-delay input accurately.
