  • This paper discusses the programming model of SODA-II that is a baseband processor for software defined radio (SDR) systems. Signal processing On-Demand Architecture Ⅱ (SODA-II) is an on-chip multiprocessor architecture consisting of four processor cores and each core has both an wide SIMD datapath and a scalar datapath. This architecture is appropriate for baseband processing that is a mixture of vector computations and scalar computations. The programming model of the SODA-II is based on C library routines. Because the library routines hide the details of complex SIMD datapath control procedures, end users can easily program the SODA-II without deep understanding on its architecture. In this paper, we discuss the details of library routines and how these routines are exploited in the implementation of baseband signal processing algorithms. As application examples, we show the implementation result of W-CDMA multipath searcher and OFDM demodulator on the SODA-II.

  • This paper presents digital signal processor (DSP) instructions and their data processing unit (DPU) architecture for high-speed fast Fourier transforms (FFTs) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. The proposed instructions jointly perform new operation flows that are more efficient than the operation flow of the multiply and accumulate (MAC) instruction on which existing DSP chips heavily depend. We further propose a DPU architecture that fully supports the instructions and show that the architecture is two times faster than existing DSP chips for FFTs. We simulated the proposed model with a Verilog HDL, performed a logic synthesis using the 0.35 ${\mu}m$ standard cell library, and then verified the functions thoroughly.

  • In a wireless communications system, a predistorter is often used to compensate for the nonlinear distortions that result from operating a power amplifier near the saturation region, thereby improving system performance and increasing the spectral efficiency for the communication channels. This paper presents a new VLSI design for the polynomial digital predistorter (DPD). The proposed DPD uses a Coordinate Rotation Digital Computing (CORDIC) processor and a PD process with a fully-pipelined architecture. Due to its simple and regular structure, it can be a competitive design when compared to existing polynomial-type and approximated DPDs. Implementing a fifth-order distorter with the proposed design requires only 43,000 logic gates in a $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS standard cell library.

  • The spatial property of contemporary library is now rapidly changing through the spatial expansion of knowledge and information, the reduction of information storing facility, the variation of approaching methods by digital shift and the transition of social recognition as a cultural facility. Also the spatial characteristics with referring characters have developed such as, decentralization, de-construction, de-boundary, individual space, erasing of boundary, flow of space which extends infinitely. The main process of library origination, the systematic classification, and the storage system concluding with the demand and value of the information by changing social demands and the role of the widest ranged facility. And 5 themes, such as, hierarchy, center, storage, boundary, and symbol, as a changed spatial concept and analyzed in the case of library plans and libraries which are actually built. The significant purpose of this research is to propose that rhizomatous intellectuality and hypertext could be a theoretical background of the contemporary architecture and could be a viewpoint of the transition of spatial structure in libraries. A future library should have spatial property embracing various social changes and needs and for this respect, it is necessary to approach and analyze through the architectural explication from diverging points of view.

  • This paper presents new DSP (Digital Signal Processor) instructions and their hardware architecture for high-speed FFT. the instructions perform new operation flows, which are different from the MAC (Multiply and Accumulate) operation on which existing DSP chips heavily depend. The proposed DPU (Data Processing Unit) supporting the instructions shows two times faster than existing DSP chips for FFT. The architecture has been modeled by the Verilog HDL and logic synthesis has been performed using the 0.35 ${\mu}m$ standard cell library. The maximum operating clock frequency is about 144.5 MHz.

  • In this paper, we designed a digital codec of an RFID tag for EPC global generation 2 class 1. There are a large number of studies on RRD standard and anti-collision algorithm but few studies on the design of digital parts of the RFID tag itself. For this reason, we studied and designed the digital codec hardware for EPC global generation 2 class 1 tag. The purpose of this paper is not to improve former studies but to present the hardware architecture, an estimation of hardware size and power consumption of digital part of the RFID tag. Results are synthesized using Synopsys with a 0.35um standard cell library. The hardware size is estimated to be 111640 equivalent inverters and dynamic power is estimated to be 10.4uW. It can be improved through full-custom design, but we designed using a standard cell library because it is faster and more efficient in the verification and the estimation of the design.

  • World leading company and research centers have invested much cost and effort into a PLM and digital manufacturing field to obtain their own competitiveness. We have been trying to apply a digital manufacturing, especially simulation to ship production process as a part of PLM implementation for a shipyard. A shipbuilding production system and processes have a complexity and a peculiarity different from other kinds of production systems. So, new analysis and modeling methodology is required to implement digital shipyard. which is a digital manufacturing system for a shipbuilding company. This paper suggests an analysis and simulation modeling methodologies for an implementation of a digital shipyard. New methodologies such as a database-merged simulation, a distributed simulation, a modular simulation with a model library and a 3-tire simulation framework are developed.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm, an optimized architecture, and an implementation for an improved performance of image downscaler. The proposed downscaler uses two-dimensional digital filters for horizontal and vertical scalings, respectively. It also improves scaling precisions and decreases the loss of data, compared with the 1/32 scaler 〔1〕. In order to achieve the optimization, the digital filters are implemented by the multiplexer -adder type scheme 〔2〕. The scaler is designed by using the Verilog-HDL. It is synthesized into gates by using the Samsung 0.35 um STD90 TLM library.

  • In this paper, we describe implementation of 32-Bit RISC Core for portable communication/information equipment, such as cellular telephones and personal digital assistants, notebook, etc. The RISC core implements the ARM$\^$R/V4 instruction set on the basis of low power techniques in architecture level and logic level. It operates with 5-stage pipeline, and has harvard architecture to increase execution speed. The processor is modeled and simulated in RTL level using VHDL. Behavioral Cache and MMU are added to the VHDL model for instruction level verification of the processor. The core is implemented using Mentor P'||'&'||'R tools with IDEC C-631 Cell library of 0.6$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS 1-poly 3-metal CMOS technology.

  • In this paper, we designed 32-Hit MAC architecture of a RISC Processor for portable terminals such as cellular telephones, personal digital assistants, notebooks, etc. In order to have minimum area with best performance, the MAC performs 32 by 8 multiplication per cycle, with early termination circuit that enables multiply cycles depend on the value of multiplier. It uses the sign bit of a partial product and two extra bits for sign extension, The MAC is modeled and simulated in RTL using VHDL. The MAC is synthesized using IDEC C-631 Cell library based on 0.6$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS 1-Poly 3-metal CMOS technology.
