  • A new two step on-axis digital holography (DH) is proposed without any assumptions, phase shifting, or complicated optical components. A dual-channel Mach-Zehnder interferometer was employed. Using that setup, the object field can be reconstructed requiring only two step measurements. To eliminate position difference between two charge-coupled device (CCD) cameras, a matched filter algorithm was used. Experimental results are compared to those of the traditional phase shifting technique. The proposed approach can also be applied to single-exposure on-axis DH for real time measurement.

  • In this study, the effect of injection pressure on the column diameter and droplet velocity of liquid jet with the weakly turbulent Rayleigh-like breakup mode is experimentally studied using digital microscopic holography (DMH). The injection nozzle has the diameter of $50{\mu}m$ and injection pressure is varied from 0.1 to 0.4 MPa. When the micro liquid jet is injected into still air, the double-pulsed holograms was recorded on a CCD sensor and numerically reconstructed in order to obtain well focused images. In this study, the liquid column diameter from $50{\mu}m$ orifice nozzle is shown to be changed slightly but the droplet velocity is increased proportionally as the injection pressure is increased.

  • We describe, throughout a Mach-Zehnder interferometric configuration, a new test sieves calibration method based on off-axis digital holography. The experiment is conducted on a test sieve of square openings. The nominal sieve opening is 1.00 mm with maximum individual opening of 1.14 mm in size. The recorded off-axis hologram is numerically processed using Fresnel transforms to obtain an object wave (amplitude and phase). From the reconstructed phase, the average size of the illuminated openings has been measured precisely. The proposed method can provide a real time solution for calibrating test sieves very precisely and with moderate accuracy.

  • A new optical one-time pattern password(OTPT) mutual authentication method is proposed, which presents a two-factor authentication by 2-step phase-shifting digital holography and performs a two-way authentication by a challenge-response handshake of the optical OTPT in both directions. Because a client and a server use OTPT once as a random number and encrypt it for mutual authentication, it protects against a replay or a man-in-the middle attack and results in higher security level.

  • Conoscopic holography, which consists of two circular polarizers and an uniaxial crystal, is incoherent holographic technology for three-dimensional display and non-contact diagnosis. In this paper, we derive the longitudinal and lateral intensities from point-source hologram made by conoscopic holography. Also, the longitudinal and lateral resolutions of conoscopic holography will be obtained from the longitudinal and lateral intensities, respectively, according to Rayleigh criterion.

  • We introduce a process for optically reconstructing full-color holographic images recorded by optical scanning holography. A complex RGB-color hologram was recorded and converted into a binary hologram using a direct binary search (DBS) algorithm. The generated binary hologram was then optically reconstructed using a spatial light modulator. The discrepancies between the reconstructed object sizes and colors due to chromatic aberration were corrected by adjusting the reconstruction parameters in the DBS algorithm. To the best of our knowledge, this represents the first optical reconstruction of a full-color hologram recorded by optical scanning holography.

  • Holography is the most promising 3D imaging technology to faithfully record and reproduce light information. In addition, it is widely explored in metrology for applications such as microscopy and tomography because it can accurately measure 3D shapes. However, the data size of a digital hologram is very large, and the data characteristics are notably different from those of conventional 2D images. The Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) is a group of experts from the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission. This group develops and maintains standards for still image compression. In 2014, the JPEG released a new standard for 3D image compression called JPEG Pleno to represent light fields, point clouds, and holograms. Among them, JPEG Pleno Holography is the first international standard for hologram compression. We review recent advances in JPEG Pleno Holography standardization and discuss future directions of development.

  • We measured the surface flatness of both sides for refractive media using the transmitted digital holography method. To enhance the accuracy of the result, phase-shifting system was used. With two different phase modulation of reference beam, the phase profile of object can be easily obtained. Thus, we proposed the surface measurement method which can measure large area fast, compared with conventional methods. To guarantee the reliability of obtained result, we compared with Zygo measurement system. With the proposed method, the surface flatness of $3.45{\mu}m$ resolution could be obtained.

  • A fundamental problem in digital holography is the presence of zero-order noise in the reconstruction process, which decreases the signal to noise ratio(SNR). For many applications, that reduction of SNR makes digital holography impractical, so a great number of approaches have been tested in order to overcome such a problem. In this paper we use the scanning method to suppress the zero-order diffraction noise and the interference noise between object beams. We demonstrate that it is possible to increase the image quality with the scanning method.
