  • The convergence of education and game came from efforts to compensate for the boredom of learning. As the digital technology has been developed, this new integrated field accrued to the birth of the Educational Serious Game. It has been noted on both side of industry and academic research. Despite all natural concerns, studies of the educational Serious Game tend to show the partial directivity on the learning aspects rather than the nature of the Educational Serious Game. Therefore in this study the combination aspects of fun and learning in the Educational Serious Game through various case studies is to analyse.

  • Nowadays, game development of new genres continues through convergence among existing genres, and the games of this hybrid-genre are gaining popularity around the world. Following this trend, it is meaningful to analyze the characteristic contents of the existing genre for more effective genre fusion. In this paper, in the genre of survival game, a genre of digital game, we would like to select a representative survival game for analysis of survival content, which is a key goal and core of the game, to identify common and differentiated features. For this purpose, we have studied game mechanics and game dynamic components around the contents of the survival game, based on the MDA framework.

  • The 3D contents are getting more attentions in various areas, such as in movies, advertising, games and exhibition contents. There are many authoring tools for making 3D Models and contents. However, those authoring tools take considerable amount of time to learn and to make 3D contents. In this paper, we propose the 3D model conversion algorithm to make 3D models from 2D pictures drawn on the touch screens or papers. The vertex animation method also proposed for the interactive 3D aquarium. The proposed vertex animation algorithm was tested for virtual 3D water creatures and compared with human-made animation. An Interactive 3D aquarium was implemented by using those proposed algorithms. Thus the simplicity and effectiveness of the algorithms can be applied to diverse industries.

  • It seems that social distrust toward morality of video games has not been deducted even the influence of video game has increased drastically for last few decades. To rationalize the identity of video game and its social legitimacy, this paper first considered video game genre as a new art form. By doing so, we could derive various aesthetical and moral issues to dispute in modern society. Secondly, by considering former issues, this study could figure out moral vulnerabilities of the genre according to its own form, by categorizing them into virtual reality, interactivity and simulation. To suggest most effective way to overcome its immorality by functionalize social feedbacks which elaborately designed based on John Dewey's pragmatist aesthetics and immoralism.

  • To apply the player's experiences to the design process of the game levels set by the developer, gameplay behavior analysis is needed. The player's behavior which is different by how much he got experiences from the play has generally been studied by one computational approach based on numerical data and the other HCI(human-computer interaction) approach through heuristic analysis. For the analysis of the player's behavior with the level design patterns in FPS(first-person shooter) games, in this paper those methods are used to code 12 main types of action, which in turn is simply categorized into 5 kinds of behavior pattern. Along with it, an optimized visualization is proposed to intuitively compare the flow of behavior pattern with the time of playing game.

  • In this research, a new tabletop system is developed to provide a high resolution display by using multiple displays and computers connected through networks, based on a master/slave architecture. This distributed tabletop system is built to be scalable by just adding slave computers and monitors without modifying any software. Moreover, a EBITA (Environment for Building Interactive Tangible Applications) framework is developed to support constructing interactive games running on this scalable tabletop platforms. EBITA framework consists of the tangible interface module based on the infrared camera tracking system, and the modules that allow easy development of the graphical programs on a distributed environment. This paper describes the tangible interface based on the camera tracking system and EBITA framework. It also introduces a game built with the EBITA framework.

  • In this paper, the characteristics and structural meaning of the Palyupsimryeon mandala, which represent the high spiritual world among Korean traditional cultural relics, are analyzed and visualized. Various studies on foreign mandalas are being introduced, but there is a lack of systematic analysis of the meaning of existing Korean mandalas. In this paper, we visualize the seeds of the Palyupsimryeon mandala in Korea by matching them with the image of the mandala, which is based on the shape of the mandala. Through this process, it shows that Korea's unique seed mandala has a form of mandala that combines the existing the Diamond World Mandala and the Matrix Mandala. Applications include Mandara's characterization, digital storytelling, and games.

  • This paper aims to explore the glocal storytelling strategy of hero's journey content. Many digital games use hero's journey as a framework. However, it is also true that game storytelling is so common that it is soon recognized as a hero's journey. Therefore, this paper paid attention to the new hero's journey application method of the webtoon . The story created an atypical and Korean character on a typical hero's journey plot. It implements an alternative glocal storytelling aiming at harmony between the region and the world by presenting a regional character on a global universal plot.

  • In this study, we derive the important environmental elements for developing physical computing game. Environmental elements are selected based on the analysis of the physical computing environment in the area including physical computing itself, existing physical computing games, digital art, and information education. The derived elements are verified by Delphi's investigation methodology. The 27 factors are chosen in terms of development environment, development case, and development service. Among them the environmental aspects of physical computing are ranked as the highest importance.

  • This study is a design study to develop the reading application for English learning courses with fun elements of Gamification incorporating user's immersion. The system is focusing on the story progression of Aesop's fable "Rabbit and Tortoise", which is consisted of chapters in digital technology. We intended to apply the four elements of fun factors by grafting Gamification into the game engine system. The purpose and significance of the study is to present the guideline through evaluation of usability from prototypes by surveying the educator group.
