This paper proposed the dual-loops multiphase DLL based mixed VCO/VCDL for a high frequency phase noise suppression of the input clock and the multiple frequencies generation with a precise duty cycle. In the proposed architecture, the dual-loops DLL uses the dual input differential buffer based nMOS source-coupled pairs at the input stage of the mixed VCO/VCDL. This can easily convert the input and output phase transfer of the conventional DLL with bypass pass filter characteristic to the input and output phase transfer of PLL with low pass filter characteristic for the high frequency input phase noise suppression. Also, the proposed DLL can correct the duty-cycle error of multiple frequencies by using only the duty-cycle correction circuits and the phase tracking loop without additional correction controlled loop. At the simulation result with $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology, the output phase noise of the proposed DLL is improved under -13dB for 1GHz input clock with 800MHz input phase noise. Also, at 1GHz operating frequency with 40%~60% duty-cycle error, the duty-cycle error of the multiple frequencies is corrected under $50{\pm}1%$ at 2GHz the input clock.

Deepwater oil is becoming more attractive because most onshore and shallow water oil is developing or developed. With the on-going trend to deepwater oil developments, flow assurance problems which prevent oil flow from reservoir to processing facilities are becoming an issue because deposited material can be occurred in case oil is exposed to very different environment from reservoir. Wax deposition which is one of flow assurance problems can be a major technical and economic issue because it is very sensitive to temperature. In order to predict and mitigate wax problems, the precise measurement of wax appearance temperature (WAT) which is the starting temperature of wax precipitation is very important. Various methods have been suggested for WAT measurement of opaque oil because there is no standard method for opaque oil. In this study, the WAT of opaque oil samples was measured using viscosity measurement method, differential scanning calorimetry, filter plugging method, and pressurized filter plugging method. Wax deposition test and high temperature gas chromatography analysis were applied to verify measured WAT. As a result of study, the WAT of opaque oils was successfully measured and verified. If WAT measurement methods of opaque oil related to oil characteristics is systematized using the results of this study, it can be a valuable tool for WAT measurement of opaque oil and flow assurance related to wax deposition.

This paper, proposes a new analysis method for the event detection of an OTDR signal. An OTDR signal was passed through the Hamming filter to remove the high frequency noise included in the signal. The signal was then passed consecutively through a differential filter to detect the events of interest. The terminal position was determined using the fact that there is a large gap between the signal and the trailing noise power beyond the terminal. This study examined the local maxima of the signal up to the terminal position and determined the peak regions. The real events were determined from the peak regions using noise information and peak threshold. Finally, the user events were found by inspecting the user peaks beyond the terminal position. The events of the OTDR signal without users are located at less than 17m compared to the optical fiber link setup. The events of the JDSU device are located less than 25m and their users are less than 5m. For the RadianTech device, the events are detected at less than 19m and the users are found in 5m. The results suggest that the proposed method is sufficiently applicable to an optical fiber link monitoring system.

This paper proposes a compact-sized surface myoelectric sensor for the myoelectric hand prosthesis. To fit the surface myoelectric sensor in the socket for the myoelectric hand prosthesis, the sensor should be a compact size. The surface myoelectric sensor is. composed of a skin interface and a single processing circuit that are mounted on a single package. The skin interface has one reference and two input electrodes, and the reference electrode is located in the center of two input electrodes. In this paper we propose two types of sensors with the circle- and bar-shaped reference electrode, but all input electrodes are the bar-shaped. The metal material of the electrodes is the stainless steel (SUS440) that endures sweat and wet conditions. Considering the conduction velocity and the median frequency of the myoelectric signal, we select the inter-electrode distance (IED) between two input electrodes as 18mm, 20mm, and 22 mm. The signal processing circuit consists of a differential amplifier with a band pass filter, a band rejection filter for rejecting 60Hz power-line noise, amplifiers, and a mean absolute value circuit. We evaluate the proposed sensor from the output characteristics according to the IED and the shape of the reference electrode. From the experimental results we show the surface myoelectric sensor with the 18mm IED and the bar-shaped reference electrode is suitable for the myoelectric hand prosthesis.

Recently, environmental problems have become an area of growing interests. In-situ monitoring of water quality is fundamental to most environmental applications. The accurate measurement of nitrate concentrations is fundamental to understanding biogeochemistry in aquatic ecosystems. Several studies have reported that one of the most feasible methods to measure nitrate concentration is the use of Ion Selective-electrodes (ISEs). The ISE application to water monitoring has several advantages, such as direct measurement methodology, high sensitivity, wide measurement range, low cost, and portability. However, the ISE methods may yield inconsistent results where there was a difference in temperature between the calibration and measurement solutions, which is associated with the temperature dependence of ionic activity coefficients in solution. In this study, to investigate the potential of using the combination of a temperature sensor and nitrate ISEs for minimizing the effect of temperature on real-time nitrate sensing in natural water, a prototype of on-site water monitoring system was built, mainly consisting of a sensor chamber, an array of 3 ISEs, an waterproof temperature sensor, an automatic sampling system, and an arduino MCU board. The analog signals of ISEs were obtained using the second-order Sallen-key filter for performing voltage following, differential amplification, and low pass filtering. The performance test of the developed water nitrate sensing system was conducted in a monitoring station of drinking water located in Jeongseon, Kangwon. A temperature compensation method based on two-point normalization was proposed, which incorporated the determination of temperature coefficient values using regression equations relating solution temperature and electrode signal determined in our previous studies.
In this paper, we propose a dual-band filtering method optimized to DBO-CSS systems which are alternatively transmitted in low and high bands. The conventional channel filter which passes entire signal bandwidth causes a problem that excessive noise in neighboring sub-band is added while one of signals in two sub-bands is received. The dual-band filtering proposed in this paper can overcome the performance degradation in the conventional filtering method without increase of hardware complexity. The proposed method is based on two filters to be matched with DBO-CSS signals receiving alternatively and can exclude the undesired noise in neighboring sub-band. Simulation results for the proposed method show better performance about 2.5dB than the conventional one.

The generation and collection of cigarette smoke (CS) is a prerequisite for any toxicology study on smoking, especially an in vitro CS exposure study. In this study, the effects on blood and vascular function were tested with two widely used CS preparations to compare the biological effects of CS with respect to the CS preparation used. CS was prepared in the form of total particulate matter (TPM), which is CS trapped in a Cambridge filter pad, and cigarette smoke extract (CSE), which is CS trapped in phosphate-buffered saline. TPM potentiated platelet reactivity to thrombin and thus increased aggregation at a concentration of $25{\sim}100{\mu}g/mL$, whereas 2.5~10% CSE decreased platelet aggregation by thrombin. Both TPM and CSE inhibited vascular contraction by phenylephrine at $50{\sim}100{\mu}g/mL$ and 10%, respectively. TPM inhibited acetylcholine-induced vasorelaxation at $10{\sim}100{\mu}g/mL$, but CSE exhibited a minimal effect on relaxation at the concentration that affects vasoconstriction. Neither TPM nor CSE induced hemolysis of erythrocytes or influenced plasma coagulation, as assessed by prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT). Taken together, CS affects platelet activity and deteriorates vasomotor functions in vitro. However, the effect on blood and blood vessels may vary depending on the CS preparation. Therefore, the results of experiments conducted with CS preparations should be interpreted with caution.

In this study, we propose facial image recognition based on wavelet transform and neural network. This algorithm is proposed by following processes. First, two gray level images is captured in constant illumination and, after removing input image noise using a gaussian filter, differential image is obtained between background and face input image, and this image has a process of erosion and dilation. Second, a mask is made from dilation image and background and facial image is divided by projecting the mask into face input image Then, characteristic area of square shape that consists of eyes, a nose, a mouth, eyebrows and cheeks is detected by searching the edge of divided face image. Finally, after characteristic vectors are extracted from performing discrete wavelet transform(DWT) of this characteristic area and is normalized, normalized vectors become neural network input vectors. And recognition processing is performed based on neural network learning. Simulation results show recognition rate of 100 % about learned image and 92% about unlearned image.

This paper introduces a direct-conversion CMOS RF transmitter for the IEEE 802.15.4 standard with a low-power high-gain up-conversion mixer designed in $0.18{\mu}m$ process. The designed RF DCT(Direct Conversion Transmitter) is composed of differential DAC(Digital to Analog Converter), passive low-pass filter, quadrature active mixer and drive amplifier. The most important characteristic in designing RF DCT is to satisfy the 2.4 GHz Zigbee standard in low power. The quadrature active mixer inside the proposed RF DCT provides enough high gain as well as sufficient linearity using a gain boosting technique. The measurement results for the proposed transmitter show very low power consumption of 7.8 mA, output power more than 0 dBm and ACPR (Adjacent Channel Power Ratio) of -30 dBc.

The number of occurrence of differential settlement and track irregularity at track transition zone recently comes to increase, which leads to frequent maintenance activities that have an impact on train operation. Such track transition zone damages are attributed to the change of mechanical properties of fill materials due to environmental factors such as rainfall and freeze, and thaw. Consequently, this study attempts to establish the soil water characteristic curve (SWCC) of fill materials, and conduct seepage analysis to assess the distribution of degree of saturation (DOS) for track transition zone in case of rainfall. The SWCC of fill materials was successfully obtained using filter paper test method. The results of seepage analysis revealed that rainfall intensity, the slope of backfill, backfill condition (fill or cut), and SWCC are significantly influential in controlling the distribution of DOS.
