Objectives : This study was to investigate the level of organizational culture and self-leadership on organizational effectiveness and the significant factors influencing organizational effectiveness in oral health professional. Methods : Data were obtained from a cross-sectional survey of 297 oral health professional(mean age=$29.95{\pm}8.10$). Participants in the study were recruited when they attended the dental health form in Gwangju. Organizational culture was classified into four factors: relation-oriented, innovation-oriented, hierarchy-oriented, task-oriented culture. Self-readership consisted of five factors: rehearsal/self-observation, self-goal establishment, self-esteem, self-criticism, self-reward. Organizational effectiveness included organizational commitment and job satisfaction. The data was analysed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and multiple regression. Results : The dominant organizational culture was rank-oriented culture. The mean score of self-readership score was 3.51 out of a maximum 5 points. Organizational commitment was positively correlated with age, relation-oriented culture, self-goal establishment, self-reward explained 41.9% and job satisfaction was positively correlated with relation-oriented culture and self-esteem explained 48.6%. Conclusions : Based on the findings, the organizational culture and self-readership was correlated with organizational effectiveness. These results suggest that further development should be continued to develop the effective self-readership and organizational culture to improve the organizational effectiveness of oral healthcare professional.
Objectives : The study is to gain some basic material for the improvement of dental clinics' homepages through a survey investigation, in which college students of three Dental Hygienic departments participated in Kwangju and Cheollanamdo Province. Methods : In the investigation three factors were analyzed : the degree of knowledge on dental clinics' homepages, the degree of recognition on them, and whether they have paid a visit on them or not. A total of 509(96.8%) respondents are valid except 17sheets of responses. Results : 1. When asked about the degrees of knowledge on the formation of the homepages by students' years, the correct rate on Information Service was higher in a row of the second year, the first year, and the third year. And it shows statistically significant difference(p<0.05). In the part of Counseling Service, the rate of correct answers was highest in the second year, and then the first year and the third year. It also shows significant difference(p<0.05). In case of Visual Service, the second year got the highest rate of correct answers, and then the first year and the third year. Here is significant difference by the school years<0.01) 2. It was asked whether they have visited the dental clinics' homepages. The results are like this: 145 sophomores(28.5%) have visited them, and 115 juniors(22.6%) and 85 freshmen(16.7%), and it show significant difference (p<0.001). 3. It was asked how many sites they have visited. Among the freshmen, not a few students visited two sites (34, 9.9%), among sophomores 48 students visited five sites(13.9%), and among juniors the highest answers were two sites (41, 11.9%). It shows signigicant difference(p<0.01). 4. It was asked what is the purpose of the visits. At this 27 freshmen answered for having counseling(7.8%), and 80 sophomores(23.3%) and 43 juniors(12.5%) answered they visited them for the purpose of gaining some materials about their major. It shows significant difference(p<0.001). 5. It was asked with what opportunity they have visited them. They answered through searching activities like this : freshmen (68, 19.8%), sophomores (130, 37.9%), and juniors (98, 28.6%). It shows significant difference(p<0.05). 6. In regard with the recognition of the homepages, all the participants said that the management of the homepages are closely related with the images of the clinics($3.96{\pm}0.781$). But it is found that they do not think that the effective management of dental clinics' homepages is the task of dental hygienic workers as a part of dental hygienic($3.12{\pm}0.971$). 7. There is some difference concerned with the homepages among each group of students; sophomores have highest recognition on them and then juniors and freshmen, and it shows significant difference(p<0.01). In addition, those who have visited them show higher recognition than those who have never visited them(p<0.001). Conclusions : There are some differences among each group of students in regard with the formation service, the purpose of visiting them and such experiences, and the opportunities. Whereases they think that the management of the homepages are closely related with the images of the clinics, they do not think that the effective management of dental clinics' homepages is the task of dental hygienic workers as a part of dental hygienic. Therefore it is necessary to study actively for the qualitative improvement of the dental clinics' homepages, which will result in the higher recognition on the homepages by the dental hygienic students and the workers.

The aim of this study was to take the field manager's opinion about the dental hygiene student's competency. Study design was cross sectional contents analysis with the in-depth interviews. Twelve subjects were randomly selected in half an hour interview. They were signed there's own autograph on the informed consents. The contents of the qualitative interviews were divided into two parts: students' competency required for the field practice and the system of the field practice. The first part consisted of the attitude of the field's practice, how well has accomplished the job, and demanded requirements for the better performance. And the other part was made up of duration of practice, the number of students per institution and other opinion. The results showed that most of them have positive conception about student's competency. They mentioned that many students have 'enthusiastic behavior and attitude in task performance' and 'progressive attitude and mind in duty'. While 'lack of interest in practice and sociality', 'the arrogant demeanor in the fields', and 'passive behavior and attitude in the interpersonal relationship' should be avoided for excellent competency. It is required for dental hygiene students to write daily practice record and clarify their reasons to choose the institution for better performance. In addition, it should be considered to make concrete evaluation items and students and field managers should have mutual responsibility.
The purpose of this study was to assess dental hygienists' awareness of medical technician jurisprudence. The study was conducted over a 2-month period from March 1 to May 1, 2016. A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 201 dental hygienists in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon province. The questionnaire consisted of items on the awareness of the jurisprudence pertaining to medical technician jurisprudence. Data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 19.0 program. We found that 32.8% of the respondents were aware of medical technician jurisprudence. Low awareness that result was due to "insufficient public relations efforts." The respondents thought that medical technician jurisprudence are inefficient in clinical settings. Of the dental hygienists, 75.9% replied that task distribution was unclear and 40.0% lacked awareness of the distribution of dentists' duties (40.0%). A total of 59.8% of respondents showed intention to participate in medical jurisprudence seminars. Of the dental hygienists, 77.0% agreed with the insert dental hygienists under medical jurisprudence category. In conclusion, dental hygienists' awareness of medical technician jurisprudence should be improved. In addition, the dental hygienist jurisprudence need to be revised regarding job status.
This study was aimed at exploring the meaning and essence of the conflict experiences of clinical dental hygienists. In-depth interviews with 13 dental hygienists working in a dental clinic were conducted. Giorgi's method was used for qualitative analysis of the data. Conflict experiences of clinical dental hygienists were categorized into four central meaning as task conflicts, interpersonal conflicts, organizational environment conflicts, and conflict management style. Participants felt more sensitive towards the attitudes of people than treatment itself. Further studies on the multifaceted approach to conflict experiences of dental hygienists should be made. Additional research is necessary to develop effective measures and program to prevent and reduce conflict and stress in the work environment of dental hygienists.

This study was attempted in order to offer basic data for performing systematic and desirable task through improving job by surveying the actual condition and the task weight in dental hygienists. As a result of analyzing daily task weight in subjects of this study, the ratio of medical-cure cooperation task was indicated to be highest with 35.45%. It was indicated to be in order of periodontal therapy service with 21.54%, of administration & management task with 16.08%, of oral health education task with 15.88%, and of preventive treatment service with 11.23%. As for kind-based utilization ratio of the oral health education contents and oral health education data, a toothbrushing education method by subject was indicated most highly with 3.70 points. It was indicated to be in order of usage on oral hygiene device with 3.51 points, of educational method on regular check-up with 3.26 points, of educational method of preventing dental disease with 3.13 points, and of educational method on diet control with 1.39 points. Jaw-plate model was indicated to be used the most with 38.0%. It was indicated to be in order of orally explaining with 23.9% and of camera inside the mouth with 12.2%. Thus, establishment of a system is considered to be necessary in order to promote quality of oral health education for patients in the future by performing diverse programs with high utilization value in addition to a steady interest.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of the occupational commitment of dental hygienists in Korea. The independent variables contain three groups of work rewards variables which consist of task reward variables (autonomy, job significance, resource adequacy, role conflict, workload, and routinization), social reward variables(supervisory support, co-worker support, and negative affectivity), and organizational reward variables(job security and promotional chances), and eight sociodemographic variables. The sample of this study consisted of 474 dental hygienists who work at general hospitals, university hospitals, dental hospitals and clinics across the nation. Data were collected with self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using hierarchical regression technique. It was found that: (1) job significance have a significant positive effect on the occupational commitment of dental hygienists; (2) role conflict, workload, routinization, and type of work site have significant negative effect on the occupational commitment of dental hygienists; (3) the study model explains 23.7% of the variance in occupational commitment among dental hygienists. The results of the study indicate that managers of dental clinics and hospitals should make efforts to extend the scope and quality of dental hygienists' work through job enlargement and job enrichment.
This study targeted 123 dental hygienists working at the university and dental hospital as well as the dental clinic in Busan. The study ran for 5 months beginning July 23, 2016. The purpose of the study was to understand the relationship between core competencies and job performance for dental hygienists. The major core competencies of dental hygienists were interpersonal relation competency (3.61) was the highest, followed by management and educational competency (3.59), organizational relation competency (3.57), and basic dental hygiene management competency (3.56). Regarding the subjects' job performance, 'the task requested by a boss could be finished by the deadline' (3.93) was the highest, followed by 'there has been no case where others were harmed owing to carelessness' (3.76). 'The performance exceeding the targets set by the boss' (3.11) was relatively low. The group working for dental hospitals showed higher job performance than the group working for dental clinics (p=0.009) while there were high correlations between core competencies and job performance (p=0.733). Also, analysis for understanding relevant variables of core competencies that affected job performance revealed that the interpersonal relation competency (p=0.25), self-control competency (p=0.32), and basic dental hygiene competency (p=0.15) were significant. In summary, reinforcement of the dental hygienists' core competencies has a positive effect on job performance. Improved job performance in turn should improve patient care as well as the performance of the healthcare organization overall which will be eventually helpful to the provision of high-quality medical service to patients, and helpful for the hospital organization Helpful in making their performance better. Therefore, it would be necessary to establish administrative/educational support to facilitate dental hygiene education to develop major competencies and vocational basic abilities, as well as reinforce diverse competency educational programs for the current dental hygienists.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the duties of dental coordinators using the DACUM technique and to develop a practical training course for dental coordinators based on the results. Methods: The curricula for clinic coordinators across 20 educational institutions were analyzed. A board of DACUM specialists was assembled to analyze the role of dental coordinators and to develop a practical curriculum. Results: First, after analysis, we selected 8 duties and 34 tasks that should comprise the role of a dental coordinator, and the number of major tasks was 21. Second, the educational program for dental coordinators developed in this study consisted of a total of 60 hours, including 42 hours of lecture and 18 hours of practice. A pre-requisite curriculum and a final curriculum were developed, and the detailed educational contents and supplies were outlined for each subject. Third, after comparing it with the existing clinic coordinator curricula from 20 educational institutions, the curriculum based on DACUM contained 11 additional fields. Conclusions: This study developed a more specialized, detailed, and practical dental coordinator curriculum based on DACUM. It is expected that more dental coordinators could be trained more professionally with this curriculum, and it could lead to further improvement of the curriculum.
Cri-du-chat syndrome (CdCS) is caused by the deletion of the short arm of chromosome 5. Most patients with CdCS develop intellectual disabilities. Therefore, they have poor oral hygiene and a high caries index. However, treating such patients is not an easy task, because of the difficulty in communication. General anesthesia may be a useful option in adult patients with CdCS and intellectual disability. General anesthesia should be administered very carefully, owing to the presence of comorbid diseases, which may need airway management. Infants with CdCS need general anesthesia if they have a concomitant cardiac anomaly. Intubation is reportedly difficult for such patients was, owing to the structural and functional abnormalities in the larynx and vocal cords. The purpose of this study was to report a case of difficult intubation while inducing general anesthesia in a patient with CdCS during dental treatment, due to a narrow larynx and trachea.
