  • In this paper, in order to reduce the delay and area of the partial product accumulation (PPA) of the parallel decimal multiplier, a tree architecture that composed by multi-operand decimal CSAs and improved CLA is proposed. The proposed tree using multi-operand CSAs reduces the partial product quickly. Since the input range of the recoder of CSA is limited, CSA can get the simplest logic. In addition, using the multi-operand decimal CSAs to add decimal numbers that have limited range in specific locations of the specific architecture can reduce the partial products efficiently. Also, final BCD result can be received faster by improving the logic of the decimal CLA. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed partial product accumulation, synthesis is implemented by using Design Complier with 180 nm COMS technology library. Synthesis results show the delay of the proposed partial product accumulation is reduced by 15.6% and area is reduced by 16.2% comparing with which uses general method. Also, the total delay and area are still reduced despite the delay and area of the CLA are increased.

  • A new compact hierarchical representation method image is proposed. This method represents a binary image with the set of decimal numbers. Each decimal number represents the pattern of nonterminal node(gray node) in the quadtree. This pattern implies the combination of its four child nodes. The total number of gray nodes is one third of that terminal nodes. We show that gray tree method is efficient comparing with others which have been studied.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the expansion of headings for digital trends of Korean Decimal Classification. In order to achieve the purpose, this study first analyzed the change process of classification items related to digital resources in DDC and KDC. Second, subject names related to digital in LCSH and Korean National Library Subject Heading were analyzed. Third, comparisons between the items related to digital of DDC 23rd with LCSH and KDC with Korean National Library Subject Heading were conducted. The result of comparative analysis was identified that KDC 6th edition faces with difficulties in reasonable classification because item names related to digital of KDC 6th edition have 11 items. Therefore, the item related to digital has to be expanded to new classification item name and has to add include notes and class here notes in KDC.

  • Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) was first published in 1876. Since its first edition it has been revised, on an average, 6 years, and now it has become the widely used library classification system of which the scheme was translated in various languages. The purpose of this study is to find out the chief causes for the development of the DDC. The results of the study can be summarized as follows: 1. It allows materials to be shelved in a relative location as the collection expands. before the DDC was introduced, libraries used a fixed location for materials in which each item was assigned to a certain location set aside for a subject. 2. It is a practical system. The fact that it has survived many storms in the past hundred years and is still the most widely used classification scheme in the world today attests to its practical value. 3. The pure notation of arabic numerals is universally recognizable. People from any cultural or language background can adapt to the system easily. 4. The use of the decimal system enable infinite expansion and sub-division. And it has adaptability for use in libraries of various size and kinds because of its hierarchically expressive notation which permits varying degrees of inclusiveness and exclusiveness within its decimal structure. 5. The notation is simple and easily understood. The self-evident numerical sequence facilitates filing and shelving. And the mnemonic nature of the notation helps the readers to memorize and recognize the class numbers. 6. The relative index brings together different aspects of the same subject scattered in different disciplines. 7. We can avail of DDC numbers for specific titles easily because of its use by many central bibliographic services. 8. It is being continuously revised by a permanent office established in the library of congress in 1933. This office has been responsible for editing all editions of the DDC since the 16th (1958). And the periodic revision at regular intervals ensures the currentness of the scheme. 9. It has adaptability both for conventional (manual) shelf or classed catalogue analysis and also, through its meaningful nation, for retrieval through mechanization and computerized systems.

  • A library for the civil engineering field goes on increasing in quantity because of the growth in construction technology and the enlargement in applicable fields of civil engineering. Most of libraries and information centers in construction companies are using Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) or Korean Decimal Classification (KDC) to classify a library in civil engineering field. It is necessary for the library classification system to be equipped with a more standardized code system, which corresponds to the academical and technical classification for the civil engineering works. This study analyzes the defects of existing classification systems, and then suggests a new classes and divisions classification system, which facilitates to link academic information with technical data, for the civil engineering field. The proposed system is expected to make practical application of information classification system in the construc ion industry and to be applied for the revised edition of KDC.

  • This study was conducted as a qualitative case study for examining what transformed primary concepts and transformed schemas were formed for the addition of decimals and how they were formed, and how the relational understanding of the addition of decimals was in three 3rd grade elementary school children who had studied the primary concepts of division, fraction and decimal. That is, this study investigated how the subjects approached problems of decimal addition using transformed primary concepts and transformed schemas formed by themselves, and how the subjects formed concepts and transformed schemas in problem solving. According to the results of this study, transformed primary concepts and transformed schemas formed through the learning of the primary concepts of division, fraction, and decimal functioned as important factors for the relational understanding of decimal addition.

  • In this paper, a decimal floating-point arithmetic unit(DFP) was proposed and redesigned to support high speed arithmetic operation employed parallel processing technique. The basic architecture of the proposed DFP was based on the L.K.Wang's DFP and improved it enabling high speed operation by parallel processing for two operands with same size of exponent. The proposed DFP was synthesized as a target device of xc2vp30-7ff896 using Xilinx ISE and verified by simulation using Flowrian tool of System Centroid co. Compared to L.K.Wang's DFP and reference [6]'s method, the proposed DFP improved data processing speed about 8.4% and 3% respectively in case of same input data.

  • In this paper, a DFPA(decimal floating-point adder) designed a pipeline structure that uses a LZA(leading zero anticipator) to reduce critical route to shorten delay to improve the speed of operation processing. The evaluation and verification of performance of proposed DFPA applied the Flowrian tool with simulation and Cyclone III FPGA was set as the target on the Quartus II tool for the synthesis. The proposed method compared and verified to proposed the other method using same input data. As a result, the performance of proposed method is improved 11.2% and 5.9% more than L.K.Wang's method and etc.. Also, it is confirmed that improvement of operation processing speed and reduction of the number of delay elements on critical path.

  • This study suggests some ideas for the improvements of the classes of Language(700) and Literature(800) of the 4th Edition of Korean Decimal Classification(KDC). They includes some recommendations for the followings: introducing some new entries of the time table for the Korean Literature and English and American Literatures; relocating some entries for the improvements including language policy and administration; using new terminologies: adding new and revised notes for the appropriate entries; changing some specific classifying methods including the classification of bilingual dictionaries; introducing some options including those for the subdivisions of modern novels and those for American Literature; and discontinuing some entries not used, especially those in other Languages.
