  • Living culture emphasizes cultural activities in daily life based on local characteristics, and aims to integrate art with daily life to communicate with others through activities of local residents. In this process, the values that individuals and society should have, are evoked and restored. In order to understand the context and processes in which the values of the living culture are expressed as local culture, we analyzed the case of 'Gosaek Nongak(community band music, dance and rituals in Korea) conservation association' in Suwon area and tried to diagnose how art and daily life are integrated and restoring community life in the actual field. For this purpose, phenomenological research was conducted through literature review participatory observation, and in-depth interviews to categorize the social impacts of living culture activities and public support due to individual, community, and local influences. We found that public support for living culture led to increased artistic development and human interaction in the community, and that individuals who are thus empowered to seek artistic experience and actively interact with other people, emerge as vital subjects and practitioners of culture and arts in their local community. Furthermore, we found that the activities of living culture facilitated the formation of local identity for members and local residents. Through living culture activities, members and local residents became more aware of being members of the community and found value and meaning in participating in daily life and cultural activities.

  • This study examines the factors influencing loyalty to cultural arts events using data from the Survey Report on National Culture and Arts Activity in 2022 and 2023. The dependent variable is a binary variable representing the intention to revisit in the future, which serves as a proxy for loyalty. Given that the dependent variable is binary, the logit model specification is employed to estimate the average marginal effects. The estimation results indicate that audience satisfaction exerts the strongest influence on loyalty in both years. It can be observed that participation in cultural arts events is the second most important variable in determining loyalty. This suggests that the government should support the expansion of the scope of these activities and the diversification of programs in order to facilitate greater participation in a wider range of cultural arts activities.

  • This study evaluated the quality characteristics and antioxidant activities of Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder from halophyte plants added to noodles at ratios of 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, and 2.0% in order to examine its applicability as a substitute for salt. For quality characteristics of noodles with Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder, pH increased (p<0.05) and salinity decreased (p<0.01) with higher added Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder content. Water absorption ratio decreased (p<0.01) while turbidity decreased (p<0.001) with greater addition of Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder. However, volume expansion ratio increased with greater addition of Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder, but there was no significant difference. For chromaticity, L value and a value decreased (p<0.001) while b value increased (p<0.001) with greater addition of Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder. For texture, hardness (p<0.001), gumminess (p<0.001), and cohesiveness (p<0.01) increased with greater amount of added Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder; however, there were no significant differences in adhesiveness, springiness, and chewiness according to the amount of added Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder. In the sensory evaluation, for color, the score was 5.55 points when 1.5% Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder was added, which was the best preference (p<0.001); for flavor, preference was best (5.64 points) when 2.0% Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder was added; for taste, preference was best (5.36 points) (p<0.001) when 2.0% Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder was added; for overall preference (overall quality) the score was 5.55 points when 1.0% Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder was added, which was the best preference (p<0.001). For antioxidant activities, antioxidant activities including total phenol content, total flavonoid content, and DPPH free radical scavenging activity increased (p<0.001) with the amount of added Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder. As a result of the above research, preference was the highest and quality was excellent overall when 1.0% Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder was added. Thus, addition of 1.0% Spergularia marina L. Griseb instead of salt would be desirable.

  • Maker culture in Korea began to receive public attention after the 2012 Maker Fair Seoul. Central and local governments took note of this trend and subsumed makers' culture into its policy domains such as Creative Industry, Creative Cities, 4th Industrial Revolution, and the all-encompassing Creative Economy. Creative Economy was a public policy discourse formed in the public sector for the purpose of overcoming economic depression and revitalizing the economy. Under Creative Industry and Creative Economy, creativity and culture/arts are deemed indispensable but at the same time objectified and alienated as their ultimate value are recognized only as the basis for economic production. In this article, makers' culture itself goes through the same process of objectification and alienation that creativity and culture/arts suffered as the relevant policies were pursued under Creative Economy. The authors attempted to corroborate this through the case of Makercity Sewoon, and found that the Seoul City's urban development plan surrounding Sewoon Plaza proceeded in a direction destructive to the local technological ecosystem and therefore conflicts with the pronounced goal of leading 4th Industrial Revolution by encouraging and nurturing makers' culture. Makercity Sewoon, although packaged in a discourse of Creative Economy and Creative City, betrayed the same problem of alienating arts/culture and labor that the previous discourse showed.

  • Korean culinary culture is traditionally studied through the analysis of foods ingested. However, this study attempts to dialectically reinterpret Korean culinary culture through its relationship to Korean literature. In our study we consider culinary culture prior to the development of scientific techniques and economic growth related to food as "dietary lifestyle of the innocent world" and time since then as "the dietary lifestyle of the experience world". The former represents a simple means of survival without food processing (the "slow food" world), while the latter represents the "fast food" or processed food culture as a modern concept. People living in the age of economic growth and overflowing individualism have lacked an organic life and an opportunity to commune with nature. As a result, they have returned to values of the past, seeking the "slow food" culture to benefit their individual health. A series of return processes, however, were transformed into "the dietary life style of the higher innocence," called "a well-being dietary life style" involving a new healthy conception passing through the dietary life style of the experience world. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the dietary lifestyles of the "innocent" world and the "experience" world based on dialectic concepts. Individual concepts of "thesis" and "antithesis" are applied, as well as the developmental concept of "synthesis" for the way both symbolic worlds changed to "the dietary lifestyle of the higher innocence" and formed complementary relationships to each other.
