  • Despite of the introduction some sorts of the contract and the bid method like CM(Construction management) that will be efficient to manage the construction project. Korean agencies limit to control project management to do large public constructions. In the case of Taiwan, THSRC is apply J/V system in the public construction project, they are accomplishing that expend optimal the cost and save the construction time. To success J/V it has two factors, one is risk management and another is sharing information of construction project. Therefore, we will study to introduce J/V system to our construction project.

  • The selected structure for the value engineering review is one section of cut and cover tunnel for Seoul Subway Line 9. The primary focus of the review is on the optimisation of the structures to save cost on the existing Line 9 contracts through variation of the design criteria as it affects the permanent works. This is to be achieved through comparison with design criteria for other selected international subways. Criteria resulting from the review must not compromise public safety and durability for the 100 year design life.

Circuit Modeling of Interdigitated Capacitors Fabricated by High-K LTCC Sheets

  • The circuit modeling of interdigitated capacitors fabricated by high-k low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) sheets was investigated. The s-parameters of each test structure were measured from 50 MHz to 10 GHz, and the modeling was performed using these measured sparameters up to the first resonant frequency. Each test structure was divided into appropriate building blocks. The equivalent circuit of each building block was composed based on the partial element equivalent circuit (PEEC) method. Modeling was executed to optimize the parameters in the equivalent circuit of each building block. The validity of the extracted parameters was verified by the predictive modeling for the test structures with different geometry. After that, Monte Carlo analysis and sensitivity analysis were performed based on the extracted parameters. The modeling methodology can allow a device designer to improve the yield and to save time and cost for the design and manufacturing of devices.

  • This study is on the strength capacity and the strengthening effects of crarbon fiber sheets(CFS) and glass fiber sheets (GFS) on steel reinforced concrete(SRC) beams. SRC beams are often used on high-rise building construction to save story height and construction cost. However, there are no strengthening design code in Korea and most engineers design it as steel beams ignored the composite effect if reinforced concrete. Test results on steel reinforced concrete beams reveal thar the strength capacity of SRC beam is more than simple addition of steel and reinforced concrete beams. In case of steel reinforced concrete beams, ultimate moment capacity of strengthening beam of carbon fiber sheets is 120% of non-strengthening one.

  • Recently, the construction of buildings and large bridges has been increasing rapidly causing foundation structure growing larger then before, especially in the use of large size cast-in-place piles. Barrette Pile will usually be used at the site where diaphragm wall is the retaining wall to save time and cost in mobilization of equipments. This study uses bi-directional loading test data obtained from two different sites to observe the bearing capacity and displacement characteristics of barrette pile. Numerical analysis of the test is done by using commercial 3D computer program and the interface effect and capacity of the pile as well as displacement characteristics of the pile is verified.

  • According to increase of combined cycle power generation, the manufacturing market of gas turbine generator has become more competitive, so there is high pressure on the manufacturer to reduce generator price. Global VPI(vacuum pressure impregnation) method is effective to save the production cost and time for manufacturing stator windings, but it has an abrasion problem by vibration between stator windings and slots. This paper presents the insulation breakdown case, which is for VPI type generator during high voltage insulation tests, and also shows the cause analysis, repair works as well as reliability test. the purpose of this paper is to understand the insulation properties of VPI type generator and to know prevention of insulation weakness.

  • When a MCCB Instant trip spring which is adjusted to notrip at -20% of each current from $5{\times}In$ to $10{\times}In$ and trip +20% of those is designed, we should know attraction force between Fixed Magnet and Armature. So we first made some samples, do experiments of weight, and simulated the modelling by 3D Maxwell S/W. With values of experiment and simulated values, we do design instant trip springs and repeat the above process. Finally we set up the Process of designing Instant spring. With it, we can save time and R&D cost.

  • Electric motor transforms electric power into mechanical power. It is important to increase efficiency of motor to save energy and to decrease operating cost. In this paper, some parameters and losses of high-efficiency induction motor and standard induction motor are measured by blocked-rotor test and no-load test. Operational parameters of high-efficiency induction motor that are compared with those of standard motor.

A mortar mix proportion design algorithm based on artificial neural networks

  • The concepts of four parameters of nominal water-cement ratio, equivalent water-cement ratio, average paste thickness, fly ash-binder ratio were introduced. It was verified that the four parameters and the mix proportion of mortar can be transformed each other. The behaviors (strength, workability, et al.) of mortar primarily determined by the mix proportion of mortar now depend on the four parameters. The prediction models of strength and workability of mortar were built based on artificial neural networks (ANNs). The calculation models of average paste thickness and equivalent water-cement ratio of mortar can be obtained by the reversal deduction of the two prediction models, respectively. A mortar mix proportion design algorithm was proposed. The proposed mortar mix proportion design algorithm is expected to reduce the number of trial and error, save cost, laborers and time.

  • Asymmetrical reinforcement for circular sections in wall piles is an efficient construction component with reduced embodied energy. It has been proven that asymmetrical reinforced wall piles may save more than 50% of the reinforcement than the traditional symmetrically reinforced circular sections. The use of this new type of structural member increases the number of variables in the design problem, which makes its use by engineers more complicated. In order to facilitate the use of the asymmetrically reinforced piles, this paper presents a criterion for the design of this type of structural member. The chosen criterion has been analyzed with the help of flexural capacity-cost curves. The new criterion is similar to the design procedure traditionally used for RC beams.
