The study investigates some psychological and environmental factors affecting the intention to purchase organic foods of consumers in the inner-city of Hanoi. Impact factors applied for the study include three psychological factors (health concern, environmental concern, consumer awareness of organic foods) and seven environment factors (family's opinion, friends and colleagues' opinion, influence of celebrities, expert's opinion, social status, mass media, state's encouragement). We analyzed research data from 396 consumers to measure the impacting level of these factors. The convenient sampling method was used to collect the research sample. The measurement applied a 5-point Likert scale classifying from 1-completely disagree to 5-completely agree. Based on previous studies, the research model was recommended. We had estimated the reliability of the scales through Cronbach's Alpha and composite reliability. The research data is analyzed by using Structural Equation Model method (SEM). The findings of the study suggest that psychological factors (health concern, environmental concern, consumer awareness of organic foods) had a significantly positive influence on consumer's purchase attention toward organic food. The results also revealed that environmental factors (family's opinion, friends and colleagues' opinion, influence of celebrities, expert's opinion, mass media) were positively linked to consumer's purchase attention toward organic food.
The purpose of this study was to investigate appearance concern, attitude toward cosmetic surgery, self-esteem, quality of life, and to identify affecting factors of quality of life on elderly women. The subjects consisted of 162 elderly women in the G city. The variables were measured using questionnaires, analyzed using descriptive statistic, ${\chi}^2-test$, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. The appearance concern, attitude toward cosmetic surgery were not significant difference in 60s and 70s. Quality of life was significant difference in 60s and 70s. Factors influencing quality of life in 60s were self-esteem, perceived health status, and explanation of quality of life is 39.1%. In 70s were self-esteem, level of education, and explanation of quality of life is 41.7%. These results suggest that it is necessary for aging preparation education included appearance concern and should be made to develop program to improve quality of life.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among TV involvement, body image concern, restrained eating behavior and self-esteem of middle school students in one city. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was used. A total of 229 boys and 267 girls enrolled in the middle schools completed self report questionnaire in June, 2009. The data was analyzed by using SPSS/WIN 17.0. Results: Of boys, 24.5% was over-weight/obese while 12.7% of girls was over-weight/obese. Compared to boys, girls involved more in TV (p<.001), and showed more body image concern, and restrained eating behavior (p<.001), but had lower self-esteem (p=.020). A significant positive correlation between TV involvement and body image concern was found in both boys and girls. However, only girls showed a negative association between TV involvement and self-esteem, and as well as between restrained eating behavior and self-esteem. As grouped by BMI, both boys and girls showed significantly different scores in restrained eating behavior (p<.001). Conclusion: These results suggest that the increased number of obese young adolescent need a weight management program including control for unhealthy eating behavior. The influence of mass-media on distorted body image for adolescents should be corrected. Also, an intervention for young obese girls to promote their self-esteem needs to be developed.
The purpose of this study was to analyze University student's dietary behavior for processed foods and recognition on food nutrition labelling according to the degree of health concern. For this study, 302 University students in Gyeonggi region was surveyed by questionnaire from May in 2016 and it included the questions about general matters, dietary behavior on processed foods, and the food nutrition label system. It was analysed by SPSS win 23.0 program. And the results are as follows. According to the result of the factor analysis, the preference of processed foods were showed 3.21~3.97. There were significant differences in milk and milk products preference according to health concern (p<0.05). Also frequency of processed foods was shown significant differences in milk and milk products, noodles, beverage, and fast food (p<0.05), whereas no significant differences were found in meat products, snack, bread and frozen food (p>0.05). Also, the processed food purchase consideration according to health concern was shown significant differences in nutrition, origin, manufacturing company (p<0.05), whereas no significant differences were found in taste, price, exterior, brand, and shelf life (p>0.05). Thus, it is necessary to do continuing public relations and to provide more opportunities for nutrition education so that the University students may obtain right dietary behavior on processed foods and the system of food nutrition indication be established properly.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the information search behavior in functional sportswear purchasing by clothing and sports concern variables. Functional sportswear means sportswear made of functional clothing materials. The information search behavior in this study included information sources, information seeking attributes, information search differences between when consumers buy functional sportswear and when they purchase nonfunctional sportswear, and information characteristics. For this purpose, 500 questionnaires had been distributed to university students and 409 of which were used in the study. For data analysis, frequency, reliability analysis, factor analysis, and t-test were used. The results were as follows: first, the friends showed to be the most effective information source of functional clothing materials sportswear and internet revealed to be the information source that made the most frequent use of. The experts appeared to be the most reliable information source. Second, the more the students were concerned about clothing and sports, the more important they considered information seeking attributes. Third, in the aspects of information search differences between when consumers bought functional sportswear and when they purchased nonfunctional sportswear, only sports concern variables showed to be significant. The last, regardless of clothing and sports concern variables, it was found that customers considered all the information characteristics important.
The purpose of this study was to examine the level of concern and the level of knowledge of endocrine disruptors, and the level of dietary behaviors to decrease exposure to endocrine disruptors, to determine the factors affecting the level of knowledge and behaviors, and to assess the causal relationship between them. The data were collected from 579 adults in Seoul, Incheon, Daejeon, Daegu, Busan and Gwangju provinces. Frequencies, t tests, analysis of variance, Cronbach's alpha, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis, multiple regression analyses, and path analysis were carried out by SPSS for Win V.18.0. The results of this study were as follows: The level of concern about endocrine disruptors was higher than the medium level. The respondents were most concerned about a container of cup ramen among products related to foods. The levels of both knowledge and behaviors in order to decrease exposure to endocrine disruptors in dietary life were not high. The factors affecting the level of knowledge of endocrine disruptors were educational level, attendance in education for endocrine disruptors, and concern about endocrine disruptors. On the other hand, sex, age, concern about endocrine disruptors, and the level of knowledge of endocrine disruptors affected the level of behaviors to decrease exposure toward endocrine disruptors. The results of the path analysis showed that educational level and education of endocrine disruptors had an indirect influence on the level of behaviors in order to decrease exposure to endocrine disruptors in dietary life. The concern about endocrine disruptors had both a direct and an indirect effect on the level of behaviors to decrease exposure to endocrine disruptors in dietary life. In addition, sex, age and the level of knowledge of endocrine disruptors directly affected the level of behaviors to decrease exposure to endocrine disruptors in dietary life.
As the gravity of the issue of the global warming surfaced, environmental protection and energy conservation have become one of the most serious issues that global society faces. At the status quo, there are criticisms for not effectively educating the students although the problem is very severe. In middle school, for instance, only 10% of the school offer environmental education while only $20{\sim}30%$ of the high school offer it. As witnessed by these examples, we can infer that there are not well-structured, effective environmental education for teenagers. Recently, NIE(Newspaper-In-Education) has been used as effective means for some fields of middle and/ or high school education. If so, it also could be used for environmental education. The researches, however, on the topic of NIE on environmental education are very rare. In this study, the effect of NIE on environmental education was empirically tested. Our basic assumption is that NIE will cause differences in environmental perception; the cognition and concern. And environment education through NIE will cause the high level of cognition, concern, and practice regarding environment issue. Using simple experimental design and regression analysis, we tested the effect of NIE on cognition, and, concern of environment issue, and then, on the practice of environment-improving action. The "cognition level" did not show significant difference between the experimental group(which was exposed to NIE) and control group(which was not exposed to NIE). The "concern level" for environment showed significant difference. Finally, the "practice level" showed highly significant difference between the experimental and the control group. According to regression analysis, "concern" and "NIE"(dummy variable) was turned out to be statistically significant variables for practice of environment improving action. Therefore, we came up with the conclusion that NIE, which provides the most up-to-date information regarding the environmental status, can serve as the good supplementary mechanism for the effective environment education in the present Korean middle school curriculum system. The statistical result also suggests that each individual school needs to employ and extend NIE method in its environment education curriculum.
The purpose of this study was to verify relative effects of emotion and empathy on altruistic behavior. A survey including psychological well-being, depression, empathic concern, and perspective taking was conducted on 329 undergraduates. Results revealed that altruism was positively correlated with psychological well-being, empathy concern, and perspective taking but negatively correlated with depression. Test for relative effects of positive and negative emotional states on altruism revealed that psychological well-being, but not depression, significantly predicted altruism. Test for relative effects of emotional and cognitive empathy factors on altruism showed that empathic concern, but not perspective taking, significantly predicted altruism. Test for relative effects of all four factors on altruism revealed that the empathic concern was the strongest factor affecting altruism, followed by psychological well-being, while the remaining two factors did not have an effect on altruism. Implications and limitations of this study are also discussed in this study.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between health concern, knowledge of cardio-cerebrovascular disease, and health-promoting behaviors among the elderly in the community. Method: The subjects of the study were 142 senior citizens aged 65 years or older in Cheongju-si, Chungcheong-do. Data were collected using structured questionnaires that included questions on the general characteristics, health concerns, knowledge of cardio-cerebrovascular disease, and health-promoting behaviors. The collected data were analyzed by the statistical program SPSS 20.0. The frequencies, percentages, averages, and standard deviations of the collected data were analyzed using a t-test, ANOVA, Mann Whitney U test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient, basing on the purpose of the study. The Scheffe test was carried out as a posteriori test. Result: The elderly were found to have a high health concern, but their knowledge of cardio-cerebrovascular disease was low, and their health-promoting behaviors were above the intermediate level. There was a significant positive correlation between each variable, which means that the higher the health concern was, the more knowledge an individual had of cardio-cerebrovascular disease, and the more health-promoting behaviors one had. Conclusion: This suggests that the elderly in the community should be encouraged to engage in the actions that promote their health by raising their level of health concern and awareness of diseases through health education, basing on their individual characteristics.
This study seeks to verify how empathic concern and perspective-taking predict happiness by investigating the mediating effects of cognitive reappraisal. Online surveys about empathic concern, perspective-taking, cognitive reappraisal, and happiness were conducted by 336 adult subjects. First, the correlation analysis indicated that empathic concern and perspective-taking significantly predicted cognitive reappraisal and happiness, respectively. Second, cognitive reappraisal also significantly predicted happiness. Third, the cognitive reappraisal mediated the association between empathic concern and happiness and between perspective-taking and happiness. Specifically, people who emotionally and cognitively empathize with others reported higher levels of cognitive reappraisal, which allowed them to experience higher levels of happiness. These findings have confirmed that people can increase their happiness by enhancing cognitive reappraisal through emotional and cognitive empathy. Finally, the implications and limitations of the present research are discussed.
