With the proliferation of wireless network and the advances of the embedded systems, the traditional distributed systems begin to include the wireless embedded systems. Clock synchronization in the distributed systems is one of the major issues that should be considered for diverse Purposes including synchronization, ordering, and consistency. Many clock synchronization algorithms have been proposed over the years. Since clock synchronization in wireless embedded systems should consider the low bandwidth of a network and the poor resources of a system, most traditional algorithms cannot be applied directly. We propose a clock synchronization algorithm in wireless embedded systems, extending IEEE 802.11 standard. The proposed algorithm can not only achieve high precision by loosening constraints and utilizing the characteristics of wireless broadcast but also provide continuous time synchronization by tolerating the message losses. In master/slave structure the master broadcasts the time information and the stave computes the clock skew and the drift to estimate the synchronized time of the master. The experiment results show that the achieved standard deviation by the Proposed scheme is within the bound of about 200 microseconds.
This paper is to execute a study for characteristic analysis of synchronization clock and maximum network node number with various clock states, normal, SPT, LPT, in NG-SDH networks. Through the simulations, maximum network node numbers showed from 42 to 38 nodes in normal state. In SPT state, maximum network node numbers, when the last NE network applied to only SPT state, presented from 19 to 4 nodes, much less than normal state. Node numbers to meet specification in case of occurrence of SPT state in all NE networks decreased greatly. In LPT state, all maximum node numbers, when the last NE network applied to only LPT state, presented more than 50 nodes, and the results in case of occurrence of LPT state in all NE networks were also identified. However, node numbers to meet specification in case of LPT state in all DOTS networks were few large with difference between LPT and normal or SPT state.
Ship ad-hoc network (SANET) extends the coverage of the maritime communication among ships with the reduced cost. To fulfill the growing demands of real-time services, the SANET requires an efficient clock time synchronization algorithm which has not been carefully investigated under the ad-hoc maritime environment. This is mainly because the conventional algorithms only suggest to decrease the beacon collision probability that diminishes the clock drift among the units. However, the SANET is a very large-scale network in terms of geographic scope, e.g., with 100 km coverage. The key factor to affect the synchronization performance is the signal propagation delay, which has not being carefully considered in the existing algorithms. Therefore, it requires a robust multi-hop synchronization algorithm to support the communication among hundreds of the ships under the maritime environment. The proposed algorithm has to face and overcome several challenges, i.e., physical clock, e.g., coordinated universal time (UTC)/global positioning system (GPS) unavailable due to the atrocious weather, network link stability, and large propagation delay in the SANET. In this paper, we propose a logical clock synchronization algorithm with multi-hop function for the SANET, namely multi-hop clock synchronization for SANET (MCSS). It works in an ad-hoc manner in case of no UTC/GPS being available, and the multi-hop function makes sure the link stability of the network. For the proposed MCSS, the synchronization time reference nodes (STRNs) are efficiently selected by considering the propagation delay, and the beacon collision can be decreased by the combination of adaptive timing synchronization procedure (ATSP) with the proposed STRN selection procedure. Based on the simulation results, we finalize the multi-hop frame structure of the SANET by considering the clock synchronization, where the physical layer parameters are contrived to meet the requirements of target applications.

A counter-type time-to-digital converter was designed using a dual edge T flip-flop. The time-to-digital converter was designed with a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process at a supply voltage of 1.5 volts. In a typical time-to-digital converter, when the period of the clock is T, a conversion error corresponding to the period of the clock occurs due to the asynchronism between the input signal and the clock. However, the clock of the time-to-digital converter proposed in this paper is generated in synchronization with the start signal which is the input signal. As a result, conversion errors that may occur due to asynchronization of the start signal and the clock do not occur. The flip-flops constituting the counters are composed of dual-edge flip-flops operating at the positive and negative edges of the clock to improve the resolution.

SONY corporation preoccupies $80\%$ of a market of the CCD used in a CCTV system. The CCD of SONY have high duality which can not follow the progress of capability. But there are some problems which differ the clock frequency used in CCD from the frequency used in common video encoder. To get the result by using common video encoder, the system needs a scaler that could adjust image size and PLL that synchronizes CCD's with encoder's clock So, this paper proposes the video encoder that is activated at equal clock used in CCD without scaler and PLL. The encoder converts ITU-R BT.601 4:2:2 or ITU-R BT.656 inputs from various video sources into NTSC or PAL signals in CVBS. Due to variable clock, property of filters used in the encoder is automatically changed by clock and filters adopt multiplier-free structures to reduce hardware complexity. The hardware bit width of programmable digital filters for luminance and chrominance signals, along with other operating blocks, are carefully determined to produce hish-quality digital video signals of ${\pm}1$ LSB error or less. The proposed encoder is experimentally demonstrated by using the Altera Stratix EP1S80B953C6ES device.

This paper presents a multi-channel transceiver that achieves a data rate of 3.125Gb/s/ch. The LVDS is used because of its noise immunity and low power consumption. And a pre-emphasis circuit is also proposed to increase the transmitter speed. On the receiver side, a low-power CDR(clock and data recovery) using 1/4-rate clock based on dual-interpolator is proposed. The CDR generates needed additional clocks in each recovery part internally using only inverters. Therefore each part can be supplied with the same number of 1/4-rate clocks from a clock generator as in 1/2-rate clock method. Thus, the reduction of a clock frequency relaxes the speed limitation and lowers power dissipation. The prototype chip is comprised of two channels and was fabricated in a $0.18{\mu}m$ standard CMOS process. The output jitter of transmitter is loops, peak-to-peak(0.31UI) and the measured recovered clock jitter is 47.33ps, peak-to-peak which is equivalent to 3.7% of a clock period. The area of the chip is $3.5mm^2$ and the power consumption is about 119mW/ch.

In this paper, a 3.2Gb/s clock and data recovery (CDR) circuit for a high-speed serial data communication without the reference clock is described This CDR circuit consists of 5 parts as Phase and frequency detector(PD and FD), multi-phase Voltage Controlled-Oscillator(VCO), Charge-pumps (CP) and external Loop-Filter(KF). It is adapted the PD and FD, which incorporates a half-rate bang-bang type oversampling PD and a half-rate FD that can improve pull-in range. The VCO consists of four fully differential delay cells with rail-to-rail current bias scheme that can increase the tuning range and tuning linearity. Each delay cell has output buffers as a full-swing generator and a duty-cycle mismatch compensation. This materialized CDR can achieve wide pull-in range without an extra reference clock and it can be also reduced chip area and power consumption effectively because there is no additional Phase Locked- Loop(PLL) for generating reference clock. The CDR circuit was designed for fabrication using 0.18um 1P6M CMOS process and total chip area excepted LF is $1{\times}1mm^2$. The pk-pk jitter of recovered clock is 26ps at 3.2Gb/s input data rate and total power consumes 63mW from 1.8V supply voltage according to simulation results. According to test result, the pk-pk jitter of recovered clock is 55ps at the same input data-rate and the reliable range of input data-rate is about from 2.4Gb/s to 3.4Gb/s.
We propose floating point arithmetic units for geometry operation of mobile 3D graphic processor. The proposed arithmetic units conform to the single precision format of IEEE standard 754-1985 that is a standard of floating point arithmetic. The rounding algorithm applies the nearest toward zero form. The proposed adder/subtraction unit and multiplier have one clock cycle latency, and the inversion unit has three clock cycle latency. We estimate the required numbers of arithmetic operation for Viewing transformation. The first stage of geometry operation is composed with translation, rotation and scaling operation. The translation operation requires three addition and the rotation operation needs three addition and six multiplication. The scaling operation requires three multiplication. The viewing transformation is performed in 15 clock cycles. If the adder and the multiplier have their own in/out ports, the viewing transformation can be done in 9 clock cycles. The error margin of proposed arithmetic units is smaller than $10^{-5}$ that is the request in the OpenGL standard. The proposed arithmetic units carry out operations in 100MHz clock frequency.

In this paper, a clock-data recovery using a 1/8-rate phase detector is proposed. The use of a conventional full or half-rate phase detector requires relatively higher frequency of a recovered clock, which is a burden on the design of a sampling circuit and a VCO. In this paper, a 1/8-rate phase detector is used to lower the frequency of the recovered clock and a linear equalizer is used as a input circuit of a phase detector to reduce the jitter of the recovered clock. A test chip fabricated in a 0.13-${\mu}m$ CMOS process is measured at 1.5-GHz for a 3-Gb/s PRBS input and 1.2-V power supply.
