Objective: This study examined the main effects and interaction effect of parenting attitudes and conversation hours between parent and child, by focusing on parental influence among factors impacting children's happiness. Methods: This study used the data from 2,578 fourth grade elementary school students from the first waves of the Korean Child Youth Panel Study(KCYPS) 2018. The data were analyzed using correlation analysis and stepwise regression analysis. Results: First, there was a significant corelation between children's happiness and socio-economic variables such as parental education level, family's income, and family type. Second, it was found that the main effect of all sub-factors of parenting attitude and conversation hours between parent and child on children's happiness was statistically significant. Third, only the interaction effect between structural parenting attitude and parent-child conversation hours was statistically significant. That is, children who had more conversations with parents with structural parenting attitudes providing guidelines ware reported to be particularly happy. Conclusion/Implications: This study is meaningful in examining overall quantitative and qualitative effects of the relationship between parent and child to understand parental factors impacting children's happiness.
Objective: This study investigated how family cohesion influences adolescents' positive attitude formation and their happiness as classified into hedonistic happiness and eudaimonistic happiness. We also examined whether adolescents' positive attitude functions as a mediator between family cohesion and the two kinds of happiness. Particularly, positive attitude consists of three subfactors: positive perspective, self-positivity, and social positivity. This study focused on exploring which subfactor primarily plays a mediating role. Methods: A total of 320 middle school students participated in the present study. Results and Conclusion: The findings of the study are as follows: first, positive attitude was shown to function as a mediator between family cohesion and two kinds of happiness. Second, through an analysis of multiple mediation, self-positivity and social positivity were found to be mediators between family cohesion and hedonistic happiness. However, positive perspective and self-positivity were revealed to serve as mediators between family cohesion and eudaimonistic happiness. Only self-positivity, being considered as a core construct of positive attitude, turned out to be a common mediator between family cohesion and the two kinds of happiness.
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether children's social capital(both within and outside the family) and happiness would vary depending on poverty, as well as the effects of poverty on the happiness of children through their social capital. The 2013 Korea Youth General Survey data were utilized. We analyzed data from 766 children between the ages of 9 and 12, as well as their parents. Data were examined using structural equation modeling analysis. The bootstrapping method was used to test the mediating effects of social capital. The results showed that poor children had lower levels of social capital(both within and outside the family) and happiness than non-poor children. Second, poverty had indirect effects one happiness. In particular, poverty affected children's happiness through their social capital obtained both from within and outside the families. The mediating effects were statistically significant. Based on the results, we suggested policy and practice implications, including various interventions for children in poverty that may improve their social capital, which influences children's happiness.
This study aimed to explore goals and development process of Child·youth Friendly Cities certified by UNICEF Korea and to provide a research basis for promotion and development of Child·youth friendly cities in Korea. Researchers conducted in-depth interviews with experts in two cities designated as UNICEF Child·youth Friendly Cities in early days. The findings showed that in order to successfully build and maintain friendly cities for children and youth, active interest and efforts of local governors and government officials for promoting friendly cities and policy enforcement based on four principles of child rights were required as prerequisite. In relation to managing Child·youth friendly cities, two cities selected as cases of this study provided universal social welfare programs for children and youth and expanded after-school care services for local students. Moreover they tried to promote decision making and protect rights of children and youth by allowing them to participate in community programs. The important distinctions of these cities were that they established a department exclusively for children and youth and closely cooperated with experts in private sectors. However, participants agreed that there should be more comprehensive and multilateral approach for building Child·youth friendly cities, adoption of incentive system for certification of Child·youth friendly cities and more active promotion of the UNICEF project. In conclusion, the researchers proposed policy implications.
The purpose of this study is to examine longitudinal impacts of various factors on happiness in primary school children. Specifically, attachment theory and ecosystems perspective were utilized for the purpose of this study. We used Korea Youth Panel Survey, which is a 5-year longitudinal data collected from fourth grade in elementary school to second grade in middle school Latent growth model was employed as the analytic method. The findings of this study are as follow: first, academic achievement, self-esteem, parent attachment, peer attachment, teacher attachment, and community attachment all decreased over the 5-year study period. Also, the intercept and the slope variance of variables were found to be statistically significant. This means that there are significant differences in the intercept and the slope of individuals. Second, self-esteem, parent attachment, and peer attachment were found to have cross-sectional influences on happiness. This means that self-esteem, parent attachment, and peer attachment are positively associated with happiness at the intercept. Also, self-esteem, parent attachment, teacher attachment, and community attachment were found to have longitudinal influences on happiness. This means that the higher levels of community attachment at the intercept is associated with slower the rate of decrease in happiness at the slope. In addition, faster rates of decrease in self-esteem, parent attachment, teacher attachment, and community attachment are associated with faster the rate of decrease in happiness. Third, this study conducted multiple group analysis with gender. The findings of this analysis revealed no significant differences in analytic models between males and females. Based on these findings, theoretical and practice implications with regard to happiness in primary school children are discussed.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify problems in defining the concept of care and redefine it broadly, to examine the possibility of community care as an alternative way to change the negative image of care concept. Method : The literature review method was used for the study. Results : First, care is limitedly conceptualized as a concept of physical care and care for children and the elderly. Second, child care is perceived only as a burden, and it is avoided to express care needs in the youth period, and the care of the elderly is putting off responsibility between the public and the private sector. Third, through community care, we should be able to feel happiness in life itself and care needs to be recognized as a way of being throughout our life.
Purpose: This study was to compare the health behaviors and factors influencing on suicidal ideation according to the gender among adolescents with asthma and to examine the relationship between them. Methods: The data was obtained from the 2014 youth's risk behavior web-based study in South Korea. The data were analyzed with the SPSS/Win 21.0 program, using descriptive statistics, $x^2$ test and multiple logistic regression. Results: As the result of multiple logistic regression, the factors of health behaviors and risk related to suicidal ideation were subjective happiness, stress, depression, drug use, treatment experience due to violence in both male and female. In female, physical activity and alcohol drinking were factors related to suicidal ideation. Conclusion: Therefore, we have to develop suicide prevention program, to decrease the suicidal ideation of adolescents considering such differences by gender differences.

Objectives : With the observation of factors influencing depression, self-reported happiness, self-reported stress and suicidal attempt, this study compared and evaluated the mental health of adolescents from multicultural families and monocultural families in Korea. Methods : This study compared the characteristics of adolescents from multicultural and monocultural families based on the analysis of data of The Tenth Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey and analyzed the factors influencing adolescent depression, self-reported happiness, self-reported stress and suicidal attempt. Results : There was no significant difference in the levels of depression, self-reported happiness, and self-reported stress between adolescents from multicultural and monocultural families. However, suicidal ideation and suicidal attempt were significantly higher in adolescents from multicultural families. Conclusion : There was no significant difference between the mental health of adolescents from multicultural and monocultural families. Because depression is the greatest factor for suicidal attempt, and violence has stronger relationship with depression of adolescents from multicultural families, further study is needed to prevent this trend.

Objectives: Anxiety disorders are the most common psychiatric disorders in adolescents and seem to occur the earliest among all forms of psychopathology. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of anxiety severity with health risk behaviors and mental health in adolescents. Methods: Data from the 2020 Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey were analyzed. A total of 54948 adolescents responded to the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) for the assessment of their anxiety severity as well as to the mental health and health risk behavior survey. Logistic regression analysis, t tests, and variance analysis of a complex sample general linear model were used to examine the association of anxiety severity with health behaviors and mental health. Results: After statistical adjustment for sociodemographic characteristics, the subjects in the severe anxiety group were significantly more likely to be current smokers (odds ratio [OR]: 2.08, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.72-2.50), current drinkers (OR: 1.91, 95% CI: 1.67-2.19), experience habitual substance use (OR: 10.89, 95% CI: 8.22-14.42), have sexual intercourse (OR: 2.10, 95% CI: 1.76-2.51), and have unprotected intercourse (OR: 2.21, 95% CI: 1.67-2.92) than those in the normal group. Anxiety severity negatively correlated with sleep satisfaction and happiness, but positively correlated with stress perception, loneliness, depressive symptoms, and suicidality. Conclusion: Adolescent anxiety is associated with health risk behaviors and poor mental health. Thus, early screening and intervention for anxiety in adolescents could contribute to the management and coping of youth health risk behaviors in the community.
