The purpose of this study was to investigate the basic materials for enhancing the professionalism of 51 infant/toddler teachers through in-depth interview about the actual condition of child care centers. The results were as follows: First, the infant/toddler teachers got less credits of young child care and education subjects than day care teachers did. The current criteria for qualification of infant/toddler teachers was not appropriate for providing the child care services. An efficient and substantial curriculum must be designed to facilitate the day care services for infant/toddler teachers. Second, the infant/toddler teachers recognized that their roles were similar to child care teachers. The curriculum and practice must encourage and nurture the characters, beliefs, and dispositions of infant/toddler teachers. Third, it is necessary to review the various problems to enhance the professionalism of infant/toddler teachers. Several suggestions for enhancing the professionalism are discussed.
Objective: The purpose of the study was to explore the relationship between the daily routines and physical environments of daycare centers. Methods: A total of 20 classes at 8 different daycare centers from the metropolitan city of Daejeon were investigated. Trained observers visited each daycare center more than 3 times and collected data about daily routines using the Observational Log for Daily Routines in Daycare Centers. Also, the physical environments of each class were investigated in terms of actual size, layout of activity center, etc. Results and Conclusion: Results of the study were: first, daily routines of daycare centers could be divided into 2 distinguishable types by cluster analysis- 'free play oriented' and 'group activity oriented' Second, the amount of space each child has in a classroom differed according to the total size of the classroom. An average of 7 activity centers existed in each classroom. Third, there was a difference between free play oriented and group activity oriented groups in terms of the classroom size allocated for each child and the organization of the activity centers.
The purpose of the current study was to determine whether preschoolers' attachment relationships with their parents and socioemotional behaviors are related to their day care experiences in infancy and at the present time. The participants consisted of 59 preschoolers and their mothers from 2-parent, white, middle-class dual earner families in Madison, Wisconsin. Preschoolers' attachment quality was measured by two representational instruments: the Separation Anxiety Test and "My Family and Friends". Mothers completed questionnaires about their family background and their children's day care history. The quality of current day care was obtained from directors' reports about regulatable features of the day care centers. Teachers completed the Preschool Behavior Questionnaire. Data was analyzed by hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The results showed that the quality of preschoolers' attachment relationships with parents were significantly related to the amount of day care during infancy, the quality of current care, and children's gender. In addition, the amount of infant day care appeared to have negative relations with children's socioemotional behavior problems as evaluated by teachers.
As the population of preschooler increases with the increment of employed women today, the physical environment of day-care center is becoming an important factor for the preschooler as well as home environment. In order to create a suitable and desirable day-care environment for preschoolers, the using behavior of the preschoolers, who are the main users, needs to be applied to the spacial design. In this research, play preference area of Korea and United States which have different physical environments are analyzed. Child behavior observation analysis technique, interview with the teacher in charge, floor plan and furniture arrangement plan of the day-care centers and photography were performed for this research. The subjects were 63 preschoolers of 50 months old who are using Korean and American day-care centers and play of five minutes per preschooler was filmed for 3 days. Total 01 189 motion pictures were analyzed for this research. As a result, the physical environment, programs, preference area and finally the similarity and difference according to the gender were clarified for each countries' day-care center. The Korean preschoolers preferred the block area most, the second most favorite area being art for the younger class and language for older class. According to the gender, girls preferred language area while boys chose block area. On the other hand in American preschoolers' case, due to the large variety of play area, the play preference was distributed among various area except several high preference area. Based on this research, when designing indoor play area of day care centers, the area of block, language, and art which are popular play preferences should be considered firsthand, and gender preference is also needed to be thought of. These results may be used as an important data for planning the day care center play area in the future.

The frequencies, percentiles, mean, standard deviations, Cronbach a, t-teat, F and LSD were used to analyze the collected data through SPSS WIN program. The results of this study are as follows: 1) As for young children's multiple intelligence, there are differences according to young children's gender, order of birth, parents' level of education and teacher's working period out of social-demographic factors. 2) As for the young children's social behavior, there are differences according to young children's gender, mother's level of education and teacher's working period out of social-demographic factors.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the application of the multidisciplinary model, which is customized evidence-based counseling for abused preschool children done by a day care center teacher. Methods: The participants were 16 preschool children which were abused by a day care center teacher and their parents. The data were analyzed by using the Wilcoxon Signed-rank test. Results: The multidisciplinary cooperative service model based on customized evidence-based counseling for abused preschool children, their parents, and day care center teachers was developed. Based on this model, customized evidence-based Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) emergency intervention was provided to preschool children abused by a day care teacher in Incheon. The multidisciplinary cooperative emergency intervention service proved to be effective in reducing emotional and behavioral problems of abused preschool children and enhancing the mental health of parents. The purpose of this study was to establish strategies that support multi-cultural children' development and adaptation in day care centers. The subjects were 61 young children, 49 parents from multi-cultural family and 550 Korean young children. The instruments utilized were the Sukemune-Hiew Resilience Test for parents and the Danaka Deveopment Test for children. The statistical instruments used were the t-test and the Pearson product correlation coefficients. Our results indicated that : (1) In the case five or six years old children from multi-cultural families, language development lagged behind that of Korean children. (2) Social support systems were insufficient for parents of multi-cultural families. Our cnclusions suggest that establishing strategies is necessary for not only supporting the linguistic development of children from multi-cultural families, but strategies aimed at supporting their parents in day care centers need to be developed.
This study explores the types of daily routines in child care centers based on the time planned for indoor free choice activities, outdoor activities, group activities and nap/rest. The daily routine plans of 63 classes of 0 to 2-year-olds and 51 classes of 3 to 5-year-olds were cluster analyzed. Also, openness and closeness of child care programs as well as the most participated indoor/outdoor activities were examined using questionnaires developed for teachers. The results were as follows: First, teachers planned the most time for free play choice activity and comparatively less time for outdoor play during the day. Time for rest and naps were planned more for 0-2 year-olds whereas group activities were planned more for the 3-5 year-olds. Second, 3 daily routine types were found in the daily plans of child care centers, such as "Low-Activity Oriented," "Free Choice Activity Oriented" and "Group Activity Oriented" in 0 to 2-year-old classes and 3 to 5-year-old classes. Also, "Group Activity Oriented" type in 0 to 2-year-old classes showed more "closed" child care programs than the "Free Choice Activity Oriented" type. However, no difference was shown among the 3 types of daily routines in the openness and closeness of 3 to 5-year-old child care programs. Finally, all children, regardless of the types of daily routine, participated most in block activity and role play indoors and fixed-play equipment, sand play and free play outdoors.
