The purpose of this study was to investigate the structural relationship among preschool children's attachments, preschool children's temperaments and children's playfulness. Participants of this study were 275 child care teachers and preschool child mother's from U-city. The collected data were analyzed by structure equation model analysis using SPSS and AMOS program. Fitness was evaluated using the ${\chi}^2$, RMSEA, NNFI, CFI, and SRMR. The results of this study were as follows. First, there was a positive correlation between preschool children's attachments and preschool children's playfulness, and a positive correlation between preschool children's temperaments and preschool children's playfulness. Second, preschool children's attachments had a significant direct effect on preschool children's playfulness and preschool children's temperaments also had a significant indirect effect on preschool children's playfulness.
This study examined gender differences of the effect of playfulness on the social skills of young children. The subjects were 242 4- to 6-year-old children at five nursery schools and kindergartens. Results showed that playfulness influenced social skills of young children. In particular, young children's playfulness was a more effective variable of assertion than self-control, cooperation and responsibility. Cognitive spontaneity and social spontaneity were the most effective variable of social skills. Playfulness had variable influences on social skills by gender: Among boys, playfulness was a less effective variable of cooperation than the other variables of social skills. Among girls, playfulness was a less effective variable of self-control than other variables of social skills.
The aim of this study was to investigate whether there are differences in mother's parenting behaviors and children's playfulness and communication abilities according to the type of family and to determine the relationships among these variables. A total of 154 pairs consisting of 77 pairs of children and their mothers from multi-cultural families and 77 pairs of children and mothers from general families along with 76 teachers in charge of the children participated in this study. We found that there was a difference in the children's playfulness and communication ability according to the family type. Moreover, the relationship between the mothers' parenting behaviors and their children's playfulness and communication ability levels differed according to family type. Therefore, to understand children's playfulness and communication ability in general and multicultural families, it is necessary to consider each child's environment.
This study examined the effects of parenting behaviors and children's playfulness on emotional intelligence and the additional independent influence of playfulness on emotional intelligence, except for the effects of parenting behaviors. The subjects were 517 students in the $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ grades of 3 elementary schools in Seoul and Gyunggi-do. The data were analyzed by means of Pearson's correlation, simple and multiple regression, and hierarchical regression. Our findings indicated that parenting behaviors affected children`s emotional intelligence and in turn, children's playfulness affected their emotional intelligence. Moreover, the independent influence of playfulness on emotional intelligence was found to be an important factor for children in elementary school.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in children's play behaviors in terms of their levels of playfulness, leadership and communicative ability. The subjects were 152 children aged between 3 and 4, and their 20 teachers at 10 child care centers in the Seoul and Gyeonggi area. The results of this study suggested that play behaviors were related to the level of playfulness, leadership and communicative ability in 3 and 4 years old children. Among these children, those who scored highly in terms of their playfulness, leadership and communicative ability were involved more frequently in both 'group play' and 'symbolic play' whereas those who achieved lower scores were more frequently involved in 'solitary play' and 'functional play'. However, in case of 'constructive play', significant results were not found in relation to the independent variables named in this study. 'Parallel play' and 'games with rules' were the only categories within which the findings revealed that children's play behaviors have shown different patterns according to the age of the child and to the levels of those three independent variables mentioned above.
This study examined the influences of children's playfulness and teacher-child interactions on their peer interactions, and investigated whether teacher-child interactions had any moderating effects upon the relation between child playfulness and peer interactions. The participants of this study were 240 children in fourth year classes in child care centers in Seoul and Gyoung-gi province and 24 of their teachers. In order to measure the research variables, the Korean version of PIPPS(Pen Interaction Peer Play Scale) by Choi and Shin(2008), the Children's Playfulness Scale(Barnett, 1991), and the modified version of the Caregiver Interaction Scale(Arnett, 1989) were used. The data were analyzed by means of descriptive statics, Pearson's correlations, and hierarchical regression analysis. The results indicated that children's playfulness and teacher-child interactions had significant effects on their peer interactions. Especially, the teacher-child interactions were related to the play disruption and the play disconnection of peer interactions. In addition, teacher-child interactions moderated the effect of children's social spontaneity(children's playfulness) on their play disconnection(peer interactions). The results have some implications for the role of teacher-child interactions in peer play interactions and a range of prevention efforts.

Children grow and develop through play. Play is being used as a friend and a learning material and tool in everyday life of children. It is a research study aimed to empirically analyze the effects of father's play belief and play participation on child's playfulness. A survey was carried out for the selected 284 children aged 5 years and older attending kindergarten located in D-gu, Seoul in order to achieve the goal of this study. Frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, reliability verification, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were conducted on the data collected through the survey by using the SPSS program, and the research results were derived as below. First, it showed that father's play belief and play participation have a positive effect on child's playfulness of physical spontaneity, social spontaneity, cognitive spontaneity, expression of joy, and a sense of humor. Second, father's play participation had a significant effect as a partial parameter in the relationship between father's play belief and child's playfulness. Thus, it was drawn the conclusion that father's play belief and play participation are important variables that can predict child's playfulness. Therefore, It will be necessary to promote children's playfulness development by continuously providing parent education programs on creating an atmosphere of various interaction at home through plays in the relationship between father and child and a desirable role of father in the play activities with child at the level of preschool educational institutions.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between play behaviors and young children's playfulness in a variety of play space environments. The subjects were 150 4-year old children of 29 mixed-age classes in childcare centers of Seoul and Gyeonggi area. The results were as follows; (1) Their play behaviors differed according to their play environment in terms of classroom spaces. Solitary-active play behaviors were more frequently observed in large play spaces than small. (2) Leading participation, cognitive flexibility, voluntary full immersion, and total playfulness scores correlated negatively with reticent behavior. Leading participation, voluntary full immersion, and total playfulness scores, on the other hand, correlated positively with group play behavior. (3) In small play spaces, leading participation, voluntary full immersion correlated negatively with reticent behavior, but leading participation correlated positively with group play. In middle play spaces, cognitive flexibility correlated negatively with reticent behavior. In large play spaces, voluntary full immersion correlated negatively with parallel play, but leading participation, cognitive flexibility, expressions of joy, voluntary full immersion, and total playfulness score correlated positively with group play.
This study researched aspects of gender and grade related to the after-school happiness of lower grade elementary students and the correlation between the children's happiness and their stress and playfulness. Results of surveys and interviews of 124 lower grade elementary students who attended 4 after-school programs in Seoul showed that : (1) there were no gender differences in happiness but first graders were the happiest, then 2nd graders and the 3rd graders who were the least happy. (2) Children's happiness correlated negatively with stress. (3) There was no relationship between children's overall happiness and playfulness, but there was a negative correlation between happiness and playfulness under the sub-category of cognitive spontaneity. Results were discussed in relation to the Korean socio-cultural environment.
The subjects in this study of children's playfulness in relation to emotional intelligence and social competence were 247 children in Gyeonggi Province. Data were analyzed by regression analysis using the SPSS computer program. The major results of this study were that children's playfulness was significantly related to and explained by "Peer relations skill" in the sub areas of social competence and "relationship with peers," utilization of emotion" in sub areas of emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence and socially competent interaction were significantly related to and explained by manifest joy in the sub areas of children's playfulness.
