Career Development of Upper Elementary Students through STEAMS-Based Gardening Programs

  • Since elementary school is a time in which basic concepts like attitudes and mindsets about careers are formed, career education is very important to elementary school students. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of a gardening program applying the academic disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Society (STEAMS) on developing career education for elementary school students. In order to determine the effectiveness of the program on career development of elementary school students, this study was conducted with 28 upper elementary students in the experimental group who participated in the gardening program, and 30 upper elementary students in the control group who did not. The program was comprised of total 8 sessions, one session per week, with various garden activities. The career development scores of the two groups before and after the program were comparatively analyzed. Before the program, the experimental group had significantly lower scores for career development than the control group. After 8 weeks of the program, the control group did not show any changes in career development, while the experimental group that participated in the program showed a significant increase in career development, resulting in no difference in career development between the two groups after the program. Therefore, the program has positive effects on improving career development of upper elementary students who previously had insufficient career development. Overall, the program had positive effects on career development of upper elementary students, and further research is needed to systematically promote the STEAMS-based gardening program to promote interest and understanding of students by associating plant-based gardening activities with various subjects such as science, art, and social studies.

협동학습구조의 진로교육프로그램이 초등학생의 진로발달에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Career Program with Cooperative Learning Structures on Elementary School Children's Career Development)

  • This study developed career education program applying cooperative learning structures (Kagan, 1993, 1995, 1997), and tested its effect on elementary school children's career development. Sixth grade students of 2 classes were divided into experimental and control group, and 14 sessions of the program were applied to the experimental group for 8 weeks. Career development test(Lee, 2005) were performed before and after the program. Students in both groups were retested 3 months after the post-test to test continuing effects of the program. Score tendencies and their differences between experimental group and control group of children in 3 career development areas - self-awareness, educational and occupational exploration, and career planing - were tested and the results are as follows: development of 3 areas of self-awareness, educational and occupational exploration, and career planing were consistently increasing along the experimental sequence in experimental group, while the development of 3 areas showed no changes or declining tendencies in control group. Self-awareness and educational and occupational exploration did not show the statistically significant differences between the groups. Meanwhile, the career plaining showed statistically significant difference between the groups in post-test, meaning that the career education program with cooperative structure has positive effects on the career planing in 6th grade students.

The Influence of Employee Competency and Career Management on Career Commitment: Regional Government in Indonesia

  • This study aims to test the influence of employee competency and career management on career commitment in Indonesia. The study uses the cross-sectional data of regional government employees collected from February to April 2020. Regression and structural equation modeling are employed. The results base on the effect of employee competency and career management on career commitment in Indonesia are in line with the existing theory (i.e., Bandura's Career Theory). Employee competency has a significant positive influence on career management and career commitment, which shows that regional government employees with high competency generate effective career management, and in turn career commitment increased. Regional governments with their career management program should formulate human resources management practice policy (e.g., career support, training, career development program, and orientation programs) in order to increase their competency. The positive effect of employee competency on career management is because of the effective training and career development program. The positive influence of career management on career commitment is due to the regional government providing an attractive career program, thus, employees' career commitment improved. The positive influence of employee competency on career commitment via career management is implemented by regional government support to improve the career management program.

지역아동센터 이용 아동·청소년의 문화프로그램 몰입이 진로인식 및 진로발달에 미치는 영향 - 사회적지지에 의해 조절된 자기효능감의 매개효과 (The Influence of Cultural Program Commitment on Career Perception & Development of Children and Adolescents Using Local Children Centers' Services - The Mediating Effects of Self-Efficacy Moderated by Social Support)

  • 본 연구는 취약계층 아동·청소년이 이용하는 지역아동센터 문화프로그램 몰입이 진로인식과 진로발달에 주는 영향을 사회적 지지에 의해 조절된 자기효능감의 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. N시 지역아동센터 22개소에 다니는 190명의 아동청소년을 대상으로 문화프로그램 몰입, 진로인식, 진로발달, 사회적 지지와 자기효능감에 관한 설문조사를 실시하였다. 본 연구의 통계처리를 위해 SPSS PC+ 25.0의 SPSS MACRO가 사용되었다. 본 연구결과 첫째, 문화프로그램 몰입은 자기효능감, 사회적지지, 진로인식, 진로발달과 정적 상관관계가 있었다. 둘째, 문화프로그램 몰입이 자기효능감을 매개로 진로인식과 진로발달에 영향을 주며, 문화프로그램 몰입이 진로인식과 진로발달에 주는 영향을 매개하는 자기효능감을 사회적지지가 조절하는 것이 검증되었다. 지역아동센터에 다니는 아동·청소년이 지각하는 사회적 지지가 높을수록 자기효능감의 매개효과가 커지고, 문화프로그램몰입이 진로인식과 진로발달에 주는 긍정적 영향이 촉진된다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구의 한계점과 향후 연구과제가 논의되었다.

대학생의 진로지도프로그램이 자아존중감, 진로결정자기효능감, 진로개발준비도에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Career Preparation Program on Self-esteem, Self-efficacy related career decision-making and Career Development Readiness in University Students)

  • 본 연구는 대학생에게 자기이해를 기초로 하여 직업역량을 탐색하고 개발하는 진로지도프로그램이 대상자의 자아존중감, 진로결정 자기효능감, 진로개발준비도에 미치는 효과를 파악하고자 시도되었다. 2014년 9~12월, D시에 위치한 대학에 재학생 124명을 대상으로 구조화된 진로지도프로그램을 실시하였다. SPSS 18.0으로 분석한 결과, 프로그램에 참여전에 비해 참여후에 자아존중감은 1.06점 감소하였으며(t=3.39. p=.00), 진로결정 자기효능감은 14.22점 더 상승되었고(t=-12.41, p=.00), 진로개발준비도는 17.36점 상승되었다(t=-13.85, p=.00). 자기이해에 기초하고 직업에 대한 자신의 역량을 탐색하며 취업모의훈련을 포함한 본 진로지도프로그램은 대상자의 자아존중감을 제외한 두 변수에 효과적이었다. 세 변수간의 상관관계를 Pearson correlation coefficient로 분석하였을 때 자아존중감, 진로결정자기효능감, 진로개발준비도간에 상호 상관관계가 있음을 확인하였다. 향후 대학생의 진로지도프로그램으로 확대 적용할 것과 진로지도와 자아존중감을 설명할 수 있는 후속연구를 제안한다.

경력개발과 경력정체가 간호사의 경력만족에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Career Development and Career Plateau on Career Satisfaction of Nurses)

  • Purpose: In this study, factors affecting career satisfaction of nurses were explored in the career development and career plateau. Methods: Participants were 143 nurses drawn from a general hospital in Busan. independent t-test, one way ANOVA and Hierarchial multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 18.0 program were used for data analysis. Results: The mean score of career satisfaction was 2.85/5, Career development was 2.99/5, and career plateau obtained 2.53/5. The extent of the career satisfaction differ according to age(F=3.60, p=.030), marital status(t=2.42, p=.017), current position(F=6.61, p=.002), total clinical career(F=3.36, p=.023), and work unit(t=0.95, p=.029). The influencing factors in career satisfaction of clinical nurses were organizational career management, career plateau and individual career planning. $R^2=.415$. Organizational career management was the highest significant predictor of career satisfaction(${\beta}=.325$). Conclusion: Factors influencing career satisfaction were organizational career management, career plateau and individual career planning. Thus a program for career development of organization is needed.

대학생의 진로상담프로그램 실시전후의 진로성숙도 차이검증 (Career counseling of University Students before and after Differences in career maturity verification)

  • 본 연구에서는 대학생들의 진로상담 프로그램 실시 전후의 진로 성숙도차이 검증을 통하여 향후 대학생들의 진로 상담 프로그램 개발 및 대학의 진로 지도의 방향 설정의 기초가 되고자 한다. 검증결과 우선 대학생 진로상담프로그램을 적용한 실험집단이 적용받지 않은 통제집단에 비해 진로태도성숙 수준이 향상되었다. 진로태도성숙 변화량의 집단간 T-test 결과는 진로태도성숙 전체에 대하여서도 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났으며 세부 요인으로서는 확신성과 독립성에 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

커리어포트폴리오를 활용한 진로탐색 프로그램이 전문계 고등학생의 자기효능감 및 진로정체감에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of a Career Exploration Program Using Career Portfolio on Self-efficacy and Career Identity of Vocational High School Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a career exploration program using career portfolio for vocational high school students and suggest ideas for making a decision their career and occupation. The number of subjects in this study were 50 high school students in Busan metropolitan city among which 25 were assigned for the experimental group and 25 in the control group. The career exploration program utilizing career portfolio in this study was composed of 12 sessions utilizing the career portfolio. This program was based on Jeong et al.'s career development program(2005) for high school students and Choi's career exploration program using internet(2005). The instruments of this study were self-efficacy scale and career identity scale. The average, standard deviation and the differences between the pre and post-test were calculated and processed by SPSS WIN 14.0. The major findings of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the career exploration program using career portfolio was effective to enhance significantly the level of the self-efficacy of vocational high school students. Second, the career exploration program using career portfolio was also effective to enhance career identity.

공학계열 대학생들의 진로탐색능력 향상을 위한 프로그램 개발 및 효과 (Development and Effectiveness of Educational Programs for Career Search Ability Improvements for Engineering Students)

  • The increase of youth unemployment has delivered entire interests in career education by many institutes including universities Thereafter, the emphasis on career education makes the ability on career development be considered as one of the fundamental issues in a human life. There are many efforts to assist students for career exploring by universities, however, the findings through these researches have appeared to be insignificant. As a prat of the efforts to overcome these limitations, this study is to create the appropriate career exploring educational program for college students in engineering. In accordance with the objective of this study, the research was conducted with methodologies such as 1) literature reviews; 2) analysis on the career exploring ability and needs on the related programs focusing on 224 college students in engineering; 3) creation and development of the educational program for career exploring; 4) application of the developed program to twenty three number of college students; 5) result analysis after program implementation. The significant findings and a specific case delivered by this study expect to provide valuable contributions to prospective users who intent to involve in the related educational program.

미혼모를 위한 진로교육 프로그램의 개발과 효과성 연구 (Development and Effectiveness of a Career Education Program for Unwed Mothers)

  • The objective of this study was to develop and verify the effectiveness of the career education program for unwed mothers to facilitate to consider their career plan and career orientation. The program of this study was based on the Super's developmental theory. The program was done twice a week totally 8 times. The subject of the program is unwed mothers from 16 to 25 years old. One-group pretest-posttest design was held. The quantitative and qualitative researches were carried out. In quantitative research, the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test was done with SPSS Window 10.0 to evaluate the effectiveness of the career education program. In qualitative research, the content of discussion in the course of group process, investigation, and the materials which were made from the group members were analysed to the objects of program. The results of this study was proven to develop career maturity, career decision level, and career identity. Finally, the meanings of this consequences were discussed.
