  • Objectives : This research analyzed the general characteristics of care workers and verified the correlation among self-perceived health, job stress and customer orientation. Methods : We conducted a survey from May 1st, to May 31st, 2015 of 260 care workers who are affiliated with elderly care facilities or home care facilities in Busan, Korea. Results : The more the workers were stressed about their organizational culture, the more they recognized psychological difficulties. However, there was no correlation between organizational culture and their tendency to be oriented toward customers. It was verified that the recognized psychological health has a positive regulation effect between customer orientation and job stress such as job skill requirement(p<0.01), job autonomy(p<0.01), and organizational culture(p<0.01). Conclusions : Because both suppliers and recipients of care services are aging, it is necessary for elderly care facilities to make a greater effort to minimize the physical and psychological losses of recipients.

  • This research aimed to validate the Korean version of the Workforce Agility Scale (K-WAS) among care workers for community-dwelling frail elderly. The study involved 192 care workers from Gyengsangnam-do, who completed a structured questionnaire between May 31 and July 15, 2023. The K-WAS, a 13-item instrument measured on a 5-point Likert scale, captures three key aspects of workforce agility: proactivity, adaptability, and resilience. Confirmatory factor analysis was employed to ascertain the scale's construct validity. The K-WAS demonstrated a significant positive correlation with psychological empowerment (r=.560, p<.001), thereby establishing its criterion validity. Although the results suggest that the K-WAS is a valid and reliable tool for assessing workforce agility among care workers, further refinement is recommended. The K-WAS is anticipated to aid in the implementation and evaluation of interventions focused on enhancing workforce agility among care workers for frail elderly. By providing a valid and reliable measure of workforce agility, the K-WAS can facilitate the evaluation of these interventions' effectiveness in improving outcomes for the frail elderly and_ enhancing the overall quality of care delivery.

  • This study was to investigate the social workers' psycho·social experiences and roles during the end-of-life care process in elderly long-term care facilities. As a result of data analysis through in-depth interviews, social workers experienced great exhaustion and burnout due to frequent death experiences during the end-of-life care process, and expressed regret for not being able to provide better service for the deceased and longing for loved ones. And in the event of a sudden death, social workers would undergo criticism and complaints. The main roles of social workers during end-of-life care were to contact and communicate with family members when signs of death appeared and support them after the death. The necessity of standardized manuals and education for end-of-life care, a recharging program and support group to prevent burnout of social workers, and a legal safety net for emergency preparedness and emergency measures were suggested. The necessity of death preparation education, hospice care, and advance medical directive was also emphasized for the dignified death of the elderly.
