In this study, poly (ether-block-amide) (PEBAX)/poly (ethylene) glycoldiacrylate (PEGDA)/zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8)-polyethersulfone (PES) composite membranes were prepared. The gas permeation properties of N2 and CO2 were investigated for each composite membrane. First, the gas permeability in the PEBAX/PEGDA-PES composite membrane decreased with increasing PEGDA content for each molecular weight at PEGDA250, PEGDA575, and PEGDA-700 g/mol. The CO2/N2 selectivity showed a constant value and gradually increased with increasing PEGDA content after 30 wt% PEGDA, and PEBAX/PEGDA250 50 wt%-PES prepared by adding PEGDA250 g/mol 50 wt% showed a selectivity of 15.1. This is because as the PEGDA content increases, the number of diacrylate groups increases, and the CO2 affinity due to the ether structure of PEGDA increases. Gas permeation properties according to ZIF-8 were investigated for composite membranes of PEGDA 0 to 30 wt%, with CO2/N2 selectivity almost constant for each molecular weight. The permeability of N2 and CO2 gradually increased with increasing ZIF-8 content, and CO2/N2 selectivity was the highest at 3.4 in PEBAX/PEGDA250 g/mol 30 wt%/ZIF-8 20 wt%-PES composite membrane.
In this work, soluble polyimides were synthesized and characterized from 5-(2,5-dioxotetrahydrofuryl)-3-methyl-3-cyclohexene-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride (DOCDA) and two diamines such as 4,4'-diaminodiphenylether (ODA), 1,4-phenylenediamine (p-PDA). Their thermal properties were analyzed with differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The gas permeability coefficients (P) and ideal selectivity for $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ of the prepared polyimide membranes were measured with a time-lag apparatus. DOCDA-ODA, DOCDA-p-PDA showed good permeability and selectivity; the permeabilities of $CO_2$ was 6.10, 0.74 barrers and the selectivity of $CO_2/CH_4$ were 67.03, 46.25, respectively. Therefore, DOCDA-ODA showed good possibility as gas separation membrane.

Direct air capture (DAC) technology plays a crucial role in mitigating climate change. Reports from the International Energy Agency and climate change emphasize its significance, aiming to limit global warming to 1.5 ℃ despite continuous carbon emissions. Despite initial costs, DAC technology demonstrates potential for cost reductions through research and development, operational learning, and economies of scale. Recent advancements in high-permeance polymer membranes indicate the potential of membrane-based DAC technology. However, effective separation of CO2 from ambient air requires membranes with high selectivity and permeability to CO2. Current research is focusing on membrane optimization to enhance CO2 capture efficiency. This study underscores the importance of direct air capture, evolving cost trends, and the pivotal role of membrane development in climate change mitigation efforts. Additionally, this research delved into the theoretical background, conditions, composition, advantages, and disadvantages of permeance and selectivity in membrane-based DAC.

Batch type reduction-oxidation tests were performed to check effects of temperature, pressure, gas velocity, and capacity on reduction characteristics of mass produced particle in a 0.5 MWth chemical looping combustion system. The fuel conversion and the CO2 selectivity increased as the temperature increased and as the gas velocity decreased. However the CO2 selectivity showed the maximum and decreased as the capacity increased because the CO emission increased. The results show that high temperature, low gas velocity and low inert gas concentration are preferable to ensure high reactivity of oxygen carrier in the fuel reactor.

In this study, pure and Co3O4/CoFe2O4-loaded Indium oxide (In2O3) nanofibers were synthesized by the electrospinning of an Indium/Polyvinylpyrrolidone precursor solution containing cobalt and iron bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate frameworks and subsequent heat treatment. The ethanol, toluene, p-xylene, benzene, carbon monodxide, and hydrogen gas sensing characteristics of the solution were measured at 250-400 ℃. 0.5 at%-Co3O4/CoFe2O4-loaded In2O3 nanofibers exhibited extreme response (resistance ratio - 1) to 5 ppm of ethanol (210.5) at 250 ℃ and excellent selectivity over the interfering gases. In contrast, pure In2O3 nanofibers exhibited relatively low responses to all the analyte gases and low selectivity above 250-400 ℃. The superior response and selectivity toward ethanol is explained by the catalytic roles of Co3O4 and CoFe2O4 in gas sensing reaction and the electronic sensitization induced by the formation of p (Co3O4/CoFe2O4)-n (In2O3) junctions.
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have shown promise in various applications, including molecular separation, dye separation, gas separation, filtration, and desalination. Integrating COFs into membranes enhances permeability, selectivity, and stability, improving separation processes. Combining COFs with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) creates nanocomposite membranes with high permeability and stability, ideal for dye separation. Incorporating COFs into polyamide (PA) membranes improves permeability and selectivity through a synthetic interfacial strategy. Three-dimensional COF fillers in mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) enhance CO2/CH4 separation, making them suitable for biogas upgrading. All-nanoporous composite (ANC) membranes, which combine COFs and metal-organic framework (MOF) membranes, overcome permeance-selectivity trade-offs, significantly improving gas permeance. Computational simulations using hypothetical COFs (hypoCOFs) demonstrate superior CO2 selectivity and working capacity relevant for CO2 separation and H2 purification. COFs integrated into thin-film composite (TFC) and polysulfonamide (PSA) membranes enhance rejection performance for organic contaminants, salt contaminants, and heavy metal ions, improving separation capabilities. TpPa-SO3H/PAN covalent organic framework membranes (COFMs) exhibited superior desalination performance compared to traditional polyamide membranes by utilizing charged groups to enable efficient desalination through electrostatic repulsion, suggesting their potential for ionic and molecular separations. These findings highlight COFs' potential in membrane technology for enhanced separation processes by improving permeability, selectivity, and stability. In this review, COF applied for the separation process is discussed.
This study investigated the effect of hydrogen permeance and selectivity, catalyst amount, $H_2O/CO$ ratio in a feed stream, and Ar sweep gas on the performance of a water gas shift reaction in a membrane reactor. It was observed that a minimum hydrogen selectivity of 100 was needed in a membrane reactor to obtain a hydrogen yield higher than the one at equilibrium and the hydrogen yield enhancement gradually decreased as the hydrogen permeance increased. The CO conversion in a membrane reactor initially increased with the catalyst amount and reached a plateau later for a membrane reactor with a low hydrogen permeance while the high CO conversion independent of a catalyst amount was observed for a membrane reactor with a high hydrogen permeance. For the $H_2O/CO$ ratio in a feed stream higher than 1.5, a hydrogen permeance had little effect on the CO conversion in a membrane reactor and it was found that a minimum Ar molar flow rate of $6.7{\times}10^{-6}mol\;s^{-1}$ was needed to achieve the CO conversion higher than the one at equilibrium in a membrane reactor.
Random copolymers made of both 'polymer of intrinsic microporosity (PIM-1)' and Ellagic acid were prepared for the first time by a facile one-step polycondensation reaction. By combining the highly porous and contorted structure of PIM (polymers with intrinsic microporosity) and flat-type hydrophilic ellagic acid, the membranes obtained from these random copolymers [(PIM-co-EA)-x] showed high CO2 permeability (> 4516 Barrer) with high CO2/N2 (> 23~26) and CO2/CH4 (> 18~19) selectivity, that surpassed the Robeson upper bound (2008) for both pairs of the gas mixture. Incorporation of flat-type ellagic acid into the PIM-1 not only enhances the gas permeability by disturbing the kinked structure of PIM-1 but also increases the selectivity of CO2 over N2 and CH4, due to an increase of rigidity and polarity in the resultant copolymer membranes.
In this study, zeolitic imidazolate framework-9 (ZIF-9) was synthesized and Pebax/ZIF-9 mixed membranes were prepared by varying the content in poly(ether-b-amide)-1657 (Pebax-1657), and then a single gas (N2, CO2) was permeated to investigate the gas permeation characteristics of the mixed membrane. As the ZIF-9 content incorporated into the pure Pebax membrane increased, the N2 permeability gradually decreased, and the CO2 permeability increased up to the Pebax/ZIF-9 3 wt% mixed membrane, and then decreased at the content thereafter. And among the mixed membranes, the Pebax/ZIF-9 3 wt% mixed membrane showed the highest selectivity of 69.3 by selectively accepting CO2 as the gate-opening phenomenon occurred for the polar gas, CO2. In addition, both the CO2 permeability and the CO2/N2 selectivity increased, resulting in the closest Robeson upper-bound.

To develop a pressurized chemical looping combustor, conceptual design of 0.5 MWth chemical looping combustor was performed by means of mass and energy balance calculations. Based on the conceptual design, reactivity of oxygen carrier and solid circulation rate were selected as key parameters. Sensitivity analysis of those key parameters were conducted with the change of oxygen carrier utilization percent from 5 to 50% and proper solid circulation rate and solid conversion rate to meet 98% of $CO_2$ selectivity were confirmed. Feasibility of 0.5 MWth pressurized chemical looping combustor was confirmed by experimental studies to find real solid circulation rate and $CO_2$ selectivity within the operating conditions based on the conceptual design. We could varied very wide range of solid circulation rate in two interconnected fluidized bed system. We also got enough $CO_2$ selectivity more than 98% in semi-continuous chemical looping combustor using OCN717 oxygen carrier. Consequently, feasibility of 0.5 MWth pressurized chemical looping combustor was confirmed.
