To maintain the safety and efficiency of railroad vehicles, it is important to understand the working of the brake system with anti-skid control unit (ASCU) for rolling stocks. In this paper, a HILS (Hardware In-the Loop Simulations) system with ASCU hardware (for logic) and a DSP board (for dynamics) is developed to analyze skidding of the Hanvit-200 train during the process of braking. Experimental results are presented for the case that the skid on one of the four wheels is artificially generated using a Simulink model. A convenient GUI is prepared using ControlDesk of dSPACE.
Owing to the reduction in the peak power of a DC railway subsystem, many studies on energy storage system (ESS) applications have received attention. Each application focuses on improving the efficiency and addressing regulation issues by utilizing the huge regenerative energy generated by braking-phase vehicles. The ESS applications are widely divided into installation on a vehicle or in a substation, depending on the target system characteristics. As the main purpose of the ESS application is to reduce the peak power of starting-phase vehicles, an optimized ESS utilization can be achieved by the operating at the highest peak power section. However, the weight of an entire vehicle, including those of the passengers, continuously changes during operation; thus, considering the total power consumption and the discharging point is difficult. As a contribution to the various storage device algorithms, this study deals with ESS on board vehicles and introduces an ESS operating plan for peak-power reduction by investigating the weight of a train on a real-time basis. This process is performed using a train-performance simulator, and the simulation accuracy can be increased because the weight in each phase can be adopted in the simulation.
In the braking of a railroad car, mechanical brake systems using wheel tread and brake disk are applied as well as electrical brake systems by regenerator and rheostat. During disk braking, kinetic energy of the vehicle is converted into thermal energy through friction between disk and brake pad. And it causes high temperature concentration and generates thermal crack on the brake disk surface. In this study, comparative test process for heat-resistance of candidate materials was designed for development of brake disk materials having high heat-resistance. We also verified the efficiency of the process by experiments using conventional brake disk materials.
Urban subways are one of the main parts of urban transportation networks in every city that always requires much attention in order to improve its efficiency in aspects of safety, reliability speed and costs. As the viewpoint of costs, an accurate design, especially design of vertical alignment, can have a dominant role to reduce the costs of urban railway projects. This paper seeks to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of designing chain vertical alignment for urban subways in compare to flat vertical alignment. To achieve this goal, line A of Qom subway in Iran was selected as a case study in this research. Five parameters considered in the technical-economical evaluation: (1) energy consumption, (2) rolling stock, (3) operation, (4) civil works and geotechnical and (5) hydrological, drainage and pumping. According to the results, a power saving of about 40% have been estimated in the chain vertical alignment for the train without regenerative braking in compare with the flat vertical alignment, although the power saving was calculated less than 10% for the train with regenerative braking. Finally it was found that due to the modern rolling stock technology, the chain vertical alignment represents fewer advantages in compare to the past years.

The recent environmental protection trend requires more strict energy saving, therefore every transportation system should reduce energy consumption to the minimum value. High-efficiency operation system, energy saving and $CO_2$ emissions shall be addressed as important issues in railway system. These issues are the most essential factors of railway, compared to major public transportation system. Recently, saving energy in the electric railway system has been studied. The efficient use of regenerated energy is considered to save energy. Namely, Using regenerative energy is that to store the energy generated during braking and discharge it again when a vehicle accelerates. Reusing energy stores and discharges energy, consequently enables a complete exchange of energy between vehicles, even if they are not braking and accelerating at precisely the same time, as is most frequently the case in everyday service. This paper analyzes effects of energy saving and $CO_2$-cut by using regenerative energy of electric vehicles.

A brake disk and a pad are important parts that affect the braking stability of a railway vehicle. Especially, because a brake disk stops the vehicle using conversion of the kinetic energy to frictional energy, thermal fatigue cracks are generated by the cyclic thermal load, as frictional heat, on a frictional surface and these cracks cause the fracture of a brake disk. Therefore, many researches for the thermal stress must be performed to improve the efficiency of brake disk and ensure the braking stability. In this study, we performed the thermal stress analysis for a ventilated brake disk with 3-D analysis model. For that, we simplified the shape of a ventilated hole to minimize problems that could be occurred in analysis process. Thermal stress analysis was performed in case that pressure distributions on a frictional surface is constant and is not. To determine pressure distributions of irregular case, pressure distribution analysis for a frictional surface was carried out. Finally using the results that were obtained through pressure distribution analysis, we carried out thermal stress analysis of each case and investigated the results of thermal stress analysis.
This paper presents the fuel consumption effects of LPG vehicle depending on the atmospheric temperature, LP gas leakage of vaporizer, viscosity of engine oil and engine load conditions. The fuel consumption test results show that when the temperature of engine temperature rises, the fuel consumption efficiency increases in general. The fuel consumption efficiency for an atmosphere temperature of $24.2^{\circ}C$ is 13.6% high compared to that of $1^{\circ}C$. No leak vaporizer on fuel consumption efficiency is 5.3% high compared to that of the LP gas leak vaporizer. The fuel economy of new engine oils is just 1.1% high compared to that of used oils with a LPG vehicle mileage of 9,500km. This is not an influential factor compared with an atmospheric temperature and a LP gas leakage. The more important factors on the fuel consumption efficiency are driving conditions such as a rapid braking, abrupt start and fast acceleration. The test results indicate that the normal start is 32.3% high compared to that of an abrupt start and the fast acceleration is 10.8% high compared with that of an abrupt start. And the fuel consumption efficiency for a rapid braking is 18.3% higher than that of an abrupt start. These indicate that the driving condition is very important to reduce the fuel consumption rate.

Currents which are generated at both ends of drive motor by operating brake pedal when subway train is driving, will generate the reviltalization actual effect if they are not used immediately. So there exist rolling stock established Dynamic braking annex for the purpose of stable brake performance in case there are no retrogress train around or no stable wiring voltage. Therefore 55% of entered energy are consumed in subway train. 45% are used in down gradient section or for regeneration energy and among them 25% are used for another train's retrogression through the wiring. So to reduce reviltalization method keeping the existing system, substation's service voltage should be declined about 5%. And then it will ease off excessive wiring voltage rise. And there need energy reduction by flexible service voltage adjustment and study for energy consumption efficiency in the subway.
In this paper, operation algorithms are evaluated for a fuel cell hybrid electric vehicle (FCHEV). Power assist, load leveling and equivalent fuel algorithm are proposed and implemented in the FCHEV performance simulator. It is found from the simulation results that the load leveling algorithm shows poor fuel economy due to the system charge and discharge efficiency. In the power assist and equivalent fuel algorithm, the fuel cell stack is operated in a relatively better efficiency region owing to the battery power assist, which provides the improved fuel economy.

The applications of SRM(Switched Reluctance motor) are dramatically increasing due to a simple mechanical structure, a high efficiency and a high speed drive characteristics. Energy recovery in the regenerative region is very important when SRM is used in traction drive. This is to reduce energy loss during mechanical braking and/or to have a high efficiency drive. To control excitation voltage during motoring and regenerating voltage in the generator operation in the SRM, multi-level voltage control is effective. This paper suggests multi-level inverter which is useful for motoring and regenerative operation. The proposed method is verified through simulations and experiments.
