  • This paper presents an error compensation method for a fixed-width modified Booth multiplier that receives a W-bit input and produces a W-bit product. To efficiently compensate for the quantization error, Booth encoder outputs (not multiplier coefficients) are used for the generation of error compensation bias. The truncated bits are divided into two groups depending upon their effects on the quantization error. Then, different error compensation methods are applied to each group. By simulations, it is shown that quantization error can be reduced up to 50% by the proposed error compensation method compared with the existing method with approximately the same hardware overhead in the bias generation circuit. It is also shown that the proposed method leads to up to 40% reduction in area and power consumption of a multiplier compared with the ideal multiplier.

  • A low-power bypassing Booth multiplier for mobile multimedia applications is proposed. The bypassing structure directly transfers input values to outputs without switching the internal nodes of a multiplier, enabling low-power design. The proposed Booth multiplier adopts the bypassing structure while the bypassing is usually adopted in the Braun multipliers. Simulation results show the proposed Booth multiplier achieves an 11% reduction in terms of the proposed FoM compared to prior works.

  • This paper describes an efficient error-compensation technique for designing a low-error truncated Booth multiplier which produces an N-bit output from a two's complement multiplication of two N bit inputs by eliminating the N least-significant bits. Applying the proposed method, a truncated Booth multiplier for area-efficient and low-power applications has been designed, and its performance(truncation error, area) was analyzed. Since the truncated Booth multiplier does not have about half the partial product generators and adders, it results an area reduction of about 35%, compared with no-truncated parallel multipliers. Error analysis shows that the proposed approach reduces the average truncation error by approximately 60%, compared with conventional methods. A 16-b$\times$16-b truncated Booth multiplier core is designed on full-custom style using 0.35-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS technology. It has 3,000 transistors on an area of 330-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$$\times$262-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 20-㎽ power dissipation at 3.3-V supply with 200-MHz operating frequency.

  • In this paper, we propose a low-power Booth multiplication which reduces the switching activities of partial products during multiplication process. Radix-4 Booth algorithm has a characteristic that produces the Booth encoded products with zero when input data have sequentially equal values (0 or 1). Therefore, partial products have higher chances of being zero when an input with a smaller effective dynamic range of two multiplication inputs is used as a multiplier data instead of a multiplicand. The proposed multiplier divides a multiplication expression into several multiplication expressions with smaller bits than those of an original input data, and each multiplication is computed independently for the Booth encoding. Finally, the results of each multiplication are added. This means that the proposed multiplier has a higher chance to have zero encoded products so that we can implement a low power multiplier with the smaller switching activity. Implementation results show the proposed multiplier can save maximally about $20\%$ power dissipation than a previous Booth multiplier.

  • In this paper we present on architecture for a high sppeed CMOS multiplier which can be used for real-time digital signal processing. And a synthesis method for designing highly parallel algorithms in VLSI is presented. A parallel multiplier design based on the modified Booth's algorithms and Ling's algorthm. This paper addresses the design of multiplier capable of accpting data in 2's complement notation and coefficients in 2's complement notation. Multiplier consists of an interative array of sequential cells, and are well suited to VLSI implementation as a results of their modularity and regularity. Booth's decoders can be fully tested using a relatively small number af test vector.

  • This paper proposes a 32${\times}$32 Modified Booth multiplier using CMOS multiple-valued logic circuits. The multiplier based on the radix-4 algorithm is designed with current mode CMOS quaternary logic circuits. Designed multiplier is reduced the transistor count by 67.1% and 37.3%, compared with that of the voltage mode binary multiplier and the previous multiple-valued logic multiplier, respectively. The multiplier is designed with a 0.35${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ standard CMOS technology at a 3.3V supply voltage and unit current 10$mutextrm{A}$, and verified by HSPICE. The multiplier has 5.9㎱ of propagation delay time and 16.9mW of power dissipation. The performance is comparable to that of the fastest binary multiplier reported.

  • In this paper, we propose a hardware reduced multiplier for DSP applications. In many DSP applications, all of multiplier products were not used, but only upper bits of product were used. Kidambi proposed truncated unsigned multiplier for this idea. in this paper, we adopt this scheme to Booth multiplier which can be used real DSP systems. Also, zero input guarantees zero output that was not provided in previous paper. In addition, we propose bit extension scheme to reduce truncation error more and more. And, we adopted this multiplier to FIR filters for more efficient design.
