Healthcare coaching program for youth with type 1 diabetes in South Korea: a pilot study

  • Purpose: This pilot study aimed to assess the feasibility, preliminary efficacy, and effects of a mobile app healthcare coaching program developed based on self-regulation theory among youths with type 1 diabetes. Methods: A mixed-method design was utilized. Participants were randomly assigned into intervention (n=23, 12-week coaching program) or control groups (n=16, usual care). Pre- and post-intervention assessments included self-efficacy, diabetes management behavior, and health outcomes (quality of life, depression, and HbA1c). Quantitative data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN ver. 26.0. The narrative information from the participants in the healthcare coaching program underwent content analyzed. Results: The intervention group had significantly lower depression scores (t=2.57, p=.014) than the control group. No significant differences were observed in self-efficacy, diabetes management behavior, and health outcomes between the two groups. The average frequency of health behavior monitoring per week among the participants was 1.86±1.60. The qualitative findings indicated that participants perceived improved diabetes self-management with the intervention; however, challenges during vacations, dietary control difficulties, and a lack of disease awareness were identified. Conclusion: The healthcare coaching program improved psychological aspects for youth with type 1 diabetes. Further research is needed to develop and implement mobile app interventions aimed at enhancing compliance with diabetes management in pediatric and adolescent populations.

Structural Relationships between the Variables of Coaching Leadership, Job Characteristics and Organizational Effectiveness in Convergence Environment (기업의 융복합 환경에서 코칭리더십, 직무특성, 조직효과성 변인 간의 구조적 관계)

  • The importance of coaching leadership has been highlighted to enhance creativity and competence of human resources in convergence environment. This paper was validated through a structural relationships model, the impact of coaching leadership on behavioral dimensions of organizational effectiveness by focusing on mediating role of job characteristics. Coaching leadership activities showed a significant positive effect on job characteristics and turnover intentions. Job characteristics appear to have a mediating effect on the relationship between coaching leadership and organizational effectiveness, especially the coaching leadership itself not necessarily to improve organizational citizenship behavior, can increase organizational citizenship behavior when formed into a positive awareness of the job characteristics of organizational members.

Effects of a Coaching Program on Comprehensive Lifestyle Modification for Women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (임신성 당뇨 임부의 혈당조절을 위한 포괄적인 생활양식조절 코칭 프로그램의 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of using a Coaching Program on Comprehensive Lifestyle Modification with pregnant women who have gestational diabetes. Methods: The research design for this study was a non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental study. Pregnant women with gestational diabetes were recruited from D women's hospital located in Gyeonggi Province from April to October, 2013. Participants in this study were 34 for the control group and 34 for the experimental group. The experimental group participated in the Coaching Program on Comprehensive Lifestyle Modification. The program consisted of education, small group coaching and telephone coaching over 4weeks. Statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS 21.0 program. Results: There were significant improvements in self-care behavior, and decreases in depression, fasting blood sugar and $HbA_1C$ in the experimental group compared to the control group. However, no significant differences were found between the two groups for knowledge of gestational diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: The Coaching Program on Comprehensive Lifestyle Modification used in this study was found to be effective in improving self-care behavior and reducing depression, fasting blood sugar and $HbA_1C$, and is recommended for use in clinical practice as an effective nursing intervention for pregnant women with gestational diabetes.

A Convergence Study about Influences of Coaching Behavior Level and Emotional Intelligence on Organizational Effectiveness of Nurse (간호사의 코칭행동수준과 감성지능이 조직유효성에 미치는 영향에 대한 융합연구)

  • The purpose of this convergence study is to confirm the effects of nurses' coaching behavior level and emotional intelligence on organizational effectiveness. Subjects of study were 182 nurse in four general hospitals and they answer self-report questionnaire between March 2nd to March twenty three 2017. and date analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. As a result, coaching behavior level $3.28{\pm}0.42point$, Emotional Intelligence $3.27{\pm}0.45point$ and Organizational commitment $2.89{\pm}0.52point$, Job satisfaction $2.94{\pm}0.53point$, Turnover intention $3.24{\pm}0.56point$ among organizational effectiveness. Organizational commitment was positively correlated with coaching behavior level and emotional intelligence, significantly affecting Convergence Factors on organizational effectiveness were analysed into Experience preceptor(${\beta}=.25$, p=.001), Nursing satisfaction(${\beta}=.26$, p<.001), Coaching behavior level(${\beta}=.26$, p<.001) and the explanation ability was 25%. In order to enhance organizational commitment of nurse, the characteristics of the job is satisfied and if there is an intervention program that improve the level of coaching behavior, it is expected the effectiveness of the organization will be enhanced.

  • Unlike in the past, successful global companies are striving to create a horizontal organizational structure and autonomous corporate culture by empowering their members with autonomy and responsibility. The purpose of this study is to conduct an empirical analysis on the effect of job stress and managerial coaching behavior on the effect of psychological empowerment on organizational commitment and turnover intention. Negative situational factors (job stress) and positive situational factors (managerial coaching behavior) were considered and presented at the same time, and their effectiveness was verified. As a result of the analysis, it was found that psychological empowerment had a positive effect on organizational commitment, but did not to affect turnover intention. Also, it was found that job stress and managerial coaching behavior had a mediating effect. The results of this study can be used as a effective guideline on creating an autonomous organizational climate and creating a successful corporate culture through this.

Impact of Negative Feedback-seeking Behavior on Innovative Behavior: Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Learning Goal Orientation Moderated by Coaching Leadership (부정피드백추구행동이 혁신행동에 미치는 영향: 코칭리더십에 의해 조절된 학습목표지향성의 매개효과 중심으로)

  • This study was conducted to derive theoretical and practical implications in situations where innovation of the business is desperate in the face of the emergence of agile organizations and digital transformation. To do so, we tried to verify the correlation between negative feedback-seeking behavior and innovative behavior and whether the learning goal orientation of these two variables has a moderated mediating effect by coaching leadership. It analyzed the collected questionnaire from 381 members working in domestic companies; SPSS 25.0, AMOS 25.0, and Process Macro 3.0 were used. The analysis result showed that the negative feedback seeking behavior had a positive effect on the learning goal orientation, and the leader's coaching leadership found to have a moderating effect between the negative feedback seeking behavior and the learning goal orientation. Learning goal orientation has been found to have a moderated mediating effect between negative feedback seeking behavior and innovative behavior. This study is significant in the sense that it reveals the process of how members seeking negative feedback in the organization could be led to innovative behavior and shows the necessity of organizational support for coaching leadership for the vitalization of innovative behavior.

  • In this study, we tried to demonstrate the influence of leader's coaching and LMX on the member's innovation vibrator and to provide implications. This study reviewed the reader's coaching, LMX, the theories of the member's innovation behabior, resiliency, and the studies and discussions that have been carried out in the past, and finally produced five hypotheses. To verify this research theory, this study collected data from 320 automotive company researchers using VR interaction technology. The collected data were used for frequency analysis, reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation analysis. An Empirical Analysis are confirming a result of this study can be summarized as follows. First, leader's coaching have a positive effect on resilience. Second, is have a positive effect on resilience lmx. Third, the researchers is high resilience innovative behavior to promote positive influence. Fourth, resilience leader's coaching the innovative behavior the impact on. Fifth, are lmx resilience innovative behavior the impact on. Through the conclusion and discussion section, the theoretical practical significance of this study and the limitations of the research and the direction of future research are presented.

The Effect of Health Coaching Programs on Self-Efficacy, Health Behaviors, and Quality of Life in Hypertensive People Living in Poverty (건강코칭프로그램이 빈곤계층 고혈압대상자의 자기효능감, 건강행위실천 및 삶의 질에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to determine the effects of health coaching and mediating variables on quantitative aspect of health in low-income hypertensive people. Methods: The experimental group for the current study consisted of 21 clients who received health coaching services, and the control group consisted of 22 clients who received home-visiting nursing services. Two groups received health coaching or home-visiting nursing services once a week for 8 weeks. The evaluation variables were self-efficacy, nutrition management, health behaviors, self-rated health, and quality of life. Results: The results revealed that the level of nutrition management was significantly higher in the experimental group than the control group (F=10.33, p=.005). Conclusion: These results confirm that health coaching is a useful strategy that encourages clients to continuously maintain their own health behaviors. Thus, the findings of the current study provide useful data for establishing measures for the health management of those afflicted with chronic disease, such as hypertension. Furthermore, health coaching may be developed into useful intervention strategies for dealing with chronic diseases and improving home-visiting nursing.

Effects of the Pair-Work based Health Coaching Program for Elderly Diabetic Patients (노인 당뇨병 환자의 짝 활동 기반 건강코칭 프로그램 효과)

  • Purpose: This study examined how a pair-work based health coaching program for the self-care of elderly diabetic patients effects the patients' diabetes self-management knowledge, perceived social support, diabetes self-efficacy, and diabetes self-management behaviors in patients with diabetes. Method: The participants of this study were 55 elderly diabetic patients aged 65 years or older enrolled at elderly welfare centers in U city;26 patients in the experimental group and 29 in the control group. The program consisted of eight group coaching sessions and four sessions of phone-based individual interviews and coaching, that were implemented once a week for 12 weeks. Results: Compared to the control groups, the experimental group showed significant improvement in self-care knowledge, social support, diabetes self-efficacy, self-management behavior, fasting blood sugar and glycated hemoglobin level. Conclusion: The health coaching program is an effective intervention for the self-management of elderly diabetics.

The Effect of Grit Enhancement Group Coaching Program on the Improvement of Career Preparation Behavior and Career Attitude Maturity of Female University Students (그릿향상 그룹코칭 프로그램이 여대생의 진로준비행동 및 진로태도성숙 향상에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the effectiveness of the coaching program on enhancing Grit. In addition, we wanted to examine the positive effects of Grit improvement on career preparation behavior and career attitude. Participants in this program were recruited from college students in a women university located in Seoul. They were assigned to both experimental and control group, 10 for each group. The program was conducted once a week for 90 minutes per session and a total of eight sessions were implemented. Pre-test, post-test, and follow-up test were conducted before, after, and 2 weeks after the coaching program. The results showed grit increased significantly for the experimental group, but not for the control group. Both the level of career preparation behavior and career attitude were also significantly improved only for the experimental group. In addition, the effect of the program was maintained for two weeks. Finally, the limitations of this study and suggestions for subsequent studies are described.
